Very well done guide! it is easy to tell this took a lot of time and love to make. I would have loved alittle more detail on trinkets and relics for those who are going into Nighthold heroic/mythic. I just wanted to say Thank you so much for this guide! I always had such a tough time with assassination. But now, I'm pulling 3-400k overall and around 600k during vendetta with 867 ilvl. I don't know if that's great for my ivl but I feel great playing it. I was doing EVERHYTHING wrong and now I'm doing top 10 dps in raids and sometimes top 5 when I get good procs. I was finally allowed to do En heroic last night because my dps was more than adequate for it. Thank you very much.
Was playing outlaw since the game expansion drop, and now moving into assassination this helpt alot ty.

Hello Tuskeh, Thank you for an entertaining and refreshing guide. I play rogue at a high level at the moment, and there was something I believe you failed to mention in the rotation section if you don't mind me adding.
As a rule of thumb as you said we need to have a high Elaborate planning (If you are specced into it) / Surge of toxins uptime. its also important to cast your next finishing move while these buffs are up. you cant achieve that without pooling,
so at some point in your rotation you find yourself energy starved, what you want to do in that situation is to pool for energy, and that means don't cast anything just auto attack until your energy hits 70, at that point you can do 2x mutilate for 4/4 Combo points envenom, cast another 2 mutilate wait on Elaborate planning/Surge of toxins to reach 0.3 secs before you cast your next envenom then your 3rd finishing move should be under these 2 buffs, thing is after that you are going to have to refresh Garrote and that will energy starve you so you would have to do that again. This rotation puts me in the higher 70% uptime on SoT/EP.

this guide is pretty good, i personally main a rogue. I think that in nighthold the bleed build is better than the envenom build because most fights are multitarget or big burst and add fights.
This is a fantastic guide. While I don't entirely agree with the rotations present, thats all a matter of playstyle. What I really think is great about it is the in depth raid prep you go into. I think for anyone from vanilla, this is ingrained in our brains. I cannot tell you how many times I go on a raid and there are people with empty gem slots, no flasks, hell, they dont even have food buffs, the easiest thing in the world!
TL:DR Don't be bad. Come prepared.

Great guide. Im using 3 of the 4 weak auras you provided. I do have a question for you though Tuskeh....What are the 2 best legendary items to use going into and through nighhold? Im currently using the boots and bracers. I also have the ring of ravenholdt and now the cloak. Im hearing that the Shoulders and boot combo or shoulder and ring combo are the 2 setups for raid....Can you clarify?

my damage is good at raids, but at mythic+ damage is horrible. I'm 870 and can barely help in +2 and +3.. which is not proportional to my huge single target damage at raids.

Nice guide! well done! but I would like to know more about stats, I mean, okey, you said 110% mastery but then what? 30% crit and then up to 130% mastery mantaining the 30% crit? And agility? It would be nice to know more about than, I have now 135% mastery and 25% crit and if I go 30% crit and 128% mastery I loose 5 points of itel level... so dont know what to do...

About the set pieces for assaination, i feel they have almost manditory if you can get them for your rogue, 2set counts for Venomous Wounds giveing you more energy and 5set gets my Envenom crits for 1.7mill with AP.

Minor issue with your guide for weapon traits, specifically concerning the defensive abilities. Shadow Swiftness, while it is a strong trait, only requiring 1 point and granting 2 seconds of evasion every time you shadowstep, is a very situational trait. As a raider, damn near the only time your going to benefit from this trait is if the tanks go down and the boss is at around 1% health, where Evasion lets you tank for 10 seconds, and the shadowstep gives you an extra 2 seconds. I personally would recommend saving Shadow Swiftness for last, and instead work on getting the traits that reduce the cooldown on Sprint and Cloak of Shadows, as these abilities are all around much more useful than evasion (which only really helps if you have aggro) and having them up quicker means you are more likely to have them when you need them.
Of course, anyone rolling Assassination for pvp should definitely go ahead and take the Shadow Swiftness first.

Id really like to know your opinion on AP vs Exang with the legendary bracers. When I tested it, AP did not get the buff at the under 30% HP trigger. in light of that Ive been running Exang with crit=versa focus. love this video tho I learned a lot
It's tough coming from a BM hunter where i have unlimited cleave and burst AoE potential to Sin Rogue where it's really lackluster in those departments, I love the playstyle either way though. Easily my favorite melee class in game.

This really is an incredible guide. I've been playing since BC, but have been away from my rogue for two xpacs. This was the best guide I have EVER seen. But..."high gear levels" being 665....670...I mean....we're around 900 now. I'm currently leveling my rogue around 750ilvl now and the bleed build is far and away beating every other class I come across in 5mans to a pulp. Other then that semi-snobby nit-picky critique, like I said, this is so well done. If you had this for each class, you'd be famous.

I've noticed that every time you use Exsanguinate, you have to reapply Garrote (since its durantion gets shortened by half because of Exsanguinate). By doing so, Garrote won't benefit from Exsanguinate at all, since it only affects the active bleeds at the time you use Exsanguinate. Wouldn't it be better to match both cooldowns up so Garrote would benefit from Exsanguinate?
