    I got a robin who made her nest on top of my porch light. Very smart as my porch is roofed so weather won't reach it and the porch light is high up and looks like a lantern. My kids are excited as the eggs hatched a week ago. Got to thinking I could build robin nest for next year alongside my front porch simce its just bare. Would make it pretty and give these birds a place to nest out of reach of the bigger birds and other predators here.

      That's awesome....birds can get pretty creative when it comes to nesting. Watching chicks grow is such a great experience for kids (actually, for adults too!) A simple nesting ledge would provide a stable structure that offers some basic protective qualities. All the best if you decide to give it a go!

      @@natureyardlife Yup! And my oldest is ok to work with the tools so we might just make it a Mommy&Me project this summer.

    Could this be used for a bird feeder?

    • @natureyardlife
      @natureyardlife  Год назад +1

      It definitely can, but with a couple of minor modifications....1) you need to extend the roof out further to cover the seed platform entirely, so the food does not get wet in the rain, and 2) extend the base board to eliminate the floor gap, as the birds would probably knock the food through the gap as they pecked away at it....otherwise, totally works as a feeder.

    Good work!.. Small birds may like these wooden boxes for nesting... But I think that such designs would be open for attacks from other bigger/predator animals (bigger birds, snake, squirrel etc). If someones decide to build it then let them think twice.😊

      Thanks....you make a good point...it would be a good idea to set up a ledge like this in a more secluded/sheltered area, not easily visible from above (like just under an eve of a house or shed

      @@natureyardlife Youre welcome... I agree with you, more invisible more secure, that works in nature. I have several nest boxes (handmade by me) around my house, all of them are closed boxes with a simple lock/unlock door for seasonal cleanings and another door (a hole) with 28-30 mm. radius for those little, lovely birds.

    Nice design. Your videography needs a few adjustments. The subject is not centered. We get a nice view of the table top. Too much movement. It makes it difficult to see what you're trying to show us. Please take this as an attempt to help. You do great work.
