      @@JonConti it was not bad really parking lot was 1/2 full and most were already somewhere on the trail. I am over weight and out of shape and this hike pushed my limits but I had this as a goal to achieve as I just turned 55 this month and wanted to make the hike as a bucket list item. There was more traffic heading to sawtooth lake when were on our way down vs the way up. It was funny how folks stopped at the little pond a few hundred yards shy of sawtooth lake thinking they had reached it. being a good guy I let them know the hike was not yet over. I would love to hike and do an over night at alpine lake in the future. I have an over night hike planned for Alice lake this coming summer and then set up camp and hike to twin lakes with much less gear

    Beautiful video. I was there in August and day hiked to Goat Lake and wanted to hike Alpine & Sawtooth the next day, but didn't make it. But I do have a question for you. I did hike Hell Roaring from the lower parking lot then, but next year I would like to try it from the upper parking lot so I can get to Imogene easier. Have you parked at the upper parking lot to get to Hell Roaring?

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  3 года назад +1

      O ya. I usually park at the upper lot. Worst drive in the Sawtooths 😂 That is the hike I've done the most in the Sawtooths the hike from the upper lot to Hell Roaring so ask away.

    • @granthaller9544

    • @Surreal_Wizard
      @Surreal_Wizard Год назад

      I tried to drive to the upper parking lot of Hell Roaring...and didn't make it. You need a quad runner or a jeep or 4wd pickup with at least 24" clearance; even a 4wd Subaru Forester/Legacy won't cut it. It's a nice hike to Hell Roaring though but it's 9 or 10 mi. round trip from the lower lot and I didn't have time or energy to make it up past to Imogene, sadly.

      @@MrBcozzie4 Ya I've asked this in facebook group discussions before. It's wild the differing opinions on what is actually the Pacific Northwest. I think of it as Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California above San Fransisco.

      @@JonConti I'll accept your answer! So far, I've done all my backpacking in Washington and one trip in Oregon. I'm gonna have to add the Sawtooths to my list after your video though. Idaho is underrated for it's beauty. Maybe the goal is to keep it that way? 🤔

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  3 года назад +2

      @@MrBcozzie4 It's unknown to the common folk. To rich oil tycoons like the Wilkes brothers from Texas who are buying up massive amounts of land around Stanley, McCall and the Boise foothills and then closing it off to the public, it's very well known.
