It’s a shame how publicized this place is for some likes, but it was a pleasure meeting you and talking fishing. It’s enjoyable to see someone who loves it and respects the fish the way you do. Speaks volumes on your company. Tight lines!
Lovely to see you getting those wild Rainbows Mike, they are quite the fighters, beautiful markings, some gorgeous buttery browns too, great how you show the fly your using Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed watching you nymph up some of those energetic wild bows. That is a great stream! Will be staying tuned to see where you end up fishing in part 2
What a nice video to start this cold and ice covered day; coffee, nut rolls and W.Va. Fly fishing video! Mike, happy holidays, I will make sure to visit your LivelyLegs site and check it out...great way to share your knowledge and insight.
Mike Having grown up in that part of the state. When we trout fished as I was growing up we would never fish that stream. Every sewer in the county dumps in to that creek and I am not talking treated sewage but raw sewage. If we wanted to trout fish we would travel to the Williams River, Cranberry River or Shavers Fork. Those trout in that river are now wild. However they are only there because of stock truck breakdown many years ago and the whole truck had to be dumped in that river and they took hold. Please don't take this the wrong way. But if I were you after you get back to Pennsylvania I would most certainly get a tetanus shot. Any scratch you might have gotten could be dangerous. To many gorgeous rivers holding beautiful trout to fish in that state. Just unhealthy to fish there. If I was starving I could not bring myself to eat a trout from that creek to save me. Your a brave man Mike very brave.
Hey Ron, Hope all is well. I certainly wouldn’t keep a trout from any river and from my understanding they are naturally reproduced trout in this stream. As far as the sewage I read that has been corrected. It was a shame the amount of trash along the banks. I’ve read Trout Unlimited articles that they have a river clean up annually. It’s a shame to see a river that can thrive with trout reproduction be in this type of shape. I ran into several other fisherman that day and they all seemed to love the river. My next trip will most likely be a little further north in the state! Thanks for the heads up Ron. I hope all is well.
They'll tell you its been cleaned up. Its a lie ,sewage and anything else that goes through the pipes. Fact ,anywhere else they'd condemn those homes and trailers
@@Mntnere i have watched you tube videos as recently as last year of guys fishing on that creek and several of the video shots were of sewer pipes literally dumping raw sewage into that creek. Coming directly from the homes just above the creek.
Many of these viewers should do a little more research before sharing “facts”. The state is cleaning up this area little by little. There are annual grants that are awarded to different areas down there each year to mitigate the straight pipes into the stream. A lot of septic tanks have been installed where possible. Many small sector treatment systems are in the works and utility lines will be installed. These processes take time and money; something that region has a lot of and very little of, respectively. Also, there is an annual clean up of the stream each April, and I encourage all that enjoy the fishing of this stream to join the efforts. Hosted by trout unlimited, it’s a great event with some amazing people. Lunch is provided, and maybe even a few fishing tips if you bend a few ears.
Glad you respect our waters here in Wv. If you fish this creeks smaller tributaries, you will catch the really big trout. Maybe you already know this….. thanks for the video. Appreciate you not telling where this creek is, mainly I say this out of respect for the communities down here.
Great job Mike ! Epic day and some beautiful trout landed ! If you had a camera man you’d probably put another 15 or so in the net ! Love all your videos and thumbs up to you and your passion teaching your craft to others! Use all your flies , but the. Double Trouble is my favorite and gets me into bigger fish ! Tight lines and Happy Holiday to you and the boys !
Thank you so much for watching and best of luck. Those double troubles catch me my largest browns on local waters especially when water has a bit of color and bugs are active. Hard to find a better fly March-May when water has some color.
.. Mike I absolutely LOVED this video! .. That's for bringing us along .. Looking forward to seeing part 2 .. What color materials are used on that Clown Fart Y2K?
Great video, as usual. You never need to apologize for self filming, IMHO. Two questions: 1. Why do you prefer your top fly in line rather than on a dropper? And 2. Not so much in this video, but in many of them, even when the riparian cover appears sparse, you seem to prefer the bow and arrow cast. Why? Thanks again for the video. Keep ‘em coming.
Great questions. As far as the dropper set up...I find to get way less tangled using the “in line set up” vs having top fly on a tag/dropper. That being said I feel the dropper is more effective for getting takes on your top fly. Almost all the doubles I have caught is when I was fishing a dropper. As far as the casting I am so used to fishing small/tight streams is just a natural cast for me and fits my personal comfort zone. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the prompt reply. Keep up the great videos. Out here in Northern California mountains there’s not much fishable water this time of year. Your videos help get me through.
The rod is the new Hanak wave 10’ 3wt. Really like the rod and it handles fish great for a light weight rod. As far as the reel that is the hatch 3 plus.
Great video! Could you explain your rig for the y2k and nymph? I.e. your tippet from the tippet ring down to the first fly (y2k) and then how you tie on the second fly (that purple bead head nymph)
Hey Logan, From my tippet ring I typically run about 3.5-4’ of 5x tippet. Then I attach the y2k. After attaching the y2k I take a 15-16” piece of tippet and tie it through the eye of the y2k as well so it will have two knots in the eye of the y2k. Lastly I tie on the bottom fly to the end of that 15-16” tippet section. Typically I add a small shot above the y2k and between the two flies. Hope this helps and thanks for watching
Mike, just to add on to this conversation/questioning - are you using any sort of indicator or is it baked into the leader set-up? I just purchased a couple of your nymphing leaders which have a sighter built in. Thanks!! (Way to catch ‘um!!🔥)
Joseph, Thanks for watching. I only use our 5th gold leaders when nymphing no matter the stream size. The only thing, like you said, they do have a section of sighter line “baked” into the leader. That’s all I personally use.
Unfortunately this is in a very poverty stricken area in southern WV. The stream has incredible potential. It’s unfortunate the people who live along the banks treat it like a dump and toss so much trash in the river. Even the remote areas have trash due to floating downstream....it’s sad
It is the new opro net. Has a lifetime warranty. Really awesome net. Lightweight and well built. We do have them available on our sight if you want to take a look. The black sold out fast but we will be getting more in. We do have a few silvers left. Thanks for watching. livelylegz.com/products/driftless-dry-fly-net-9-handle
They are and I love the s14 style and the pants for the summer. Not a huge fan of the zips. They leaked for me. But the s14s and wading pants are excellent

Will do Gary. We are hoping the new lineup of double troubles come in the first of the year! Thanks for watching.
What stream are you fishing if you don’t mind me asking? You might have said it in the beginning of the vid but, I might have missed it
Sweet video, sorry if this has been asked before but I’m new to your channel.. any tips on keeping your toes warm?
Great video ! Love your products . Do you keep your sighter tight or have a slight sag in it when fishing a run ?
Just a slight sag in the slower deeper water. Almost tight in the faster shallow runs.

Sanitizer was hanging on my backpack!
Shits Creek as I call it!
Fishing the sewer
It’s a shame this stream is not better kept. It could be an absolute gem!
