For many years we had a camp on the other side of Kennison Mountain. You guys need to float the Greenbrier River and you can catch lots of bass. And there is always the Greenbrier River Trail that you can bike and ride beside the River for 72 miles. Glad you enjoy my home state.
Agree 100% with the camo guy at 17:35 about brookies!!! Yes, they are natural and don't come from a truck. That's my guy and love my native brookies! great video by the way
Love your vids. You boys know how to enjoy the experience. Great place to bike & fish is slate run in pa. Cranberry is special though. Bold departure with the tunes.
It was just a bad day at the office Iv fished that river since my dad took me 6 years old been 57 years ago there in there guys you no fishing some days don't get any better some days couldn't buy a bit that's why you got to keep fishing away beats working any day great film .
January through May is the trout stocking season in WV and on the Cranberry. There will be hoards of people on the river during those months. I suggest a fishing trip in mid June - July. There will be fewer people and still plenty of fish with decent water flow.
@@SchillBrothersOutdoors I know you're not going back any time soon, but I saw an article in the local paper stating the fall stockings will happen sometime between Oct 19-30... Just FYI.
My son and I had the same fishing experience on the Cranberry last October. We found out when we got home that they were stocking the Monday we got home. The day after we were there fishing. Still a beautiful place!
I've biked and fished the cranberry numerous times, but we bike from the glades to one of the camps past the campground. I recommend doing that, mostly downhill and beautiful. Also I suggest early spring during ramp season, dig your own or go into richwood and buy some. Got a lot of good memories and stories from the cranberry, some involving bears.
I've been hiking in to the Cranberry since I was 12yo in the BSA. Have spent a many great times at the Dogway shelter. Love my West Virginia trout fishin'.
I'm heading down to cranberry wilderness for a two night, relaxed trip in September. I was thinking of bringing the fly rod but should I just save myself the trouble and leave it at home? Just enjoy relaxing at camp.
From what I have gathered, where you guys were at at dogway is the beginning of a 4 mile Catch and release section up to the confluence of the north fork. I think you were really close to some good fishing. I'm going to give it a shot.
Badass video, boys. Definitely earned a YT and pod subscription. I’m planning a trip to cranberry this October to fly fish but man, kinda a bummer to see the fishing results. I had very similar results in Holly River WV. But what’s most promising is seeing how nice the shelters are. Keep the backpacking/fly fishing content coming cause I’m here for it.
LOL Reminds me of my buddy Chris when we hike 7 miles in and he pulls a cast iron Rome Industries pie iron out of his pack. Hey...... sometimes you gotta splurge a little and those rueben sandwiches were ASS KICKIN" !!
We've bike-packed in there more times than I can count, and the fishing is usually good. It's been a while, so awesome to see it again. We take bike trailers and usually snag the first shelter, but Dogway, yeah, that's quite a haul. I wouldn't try it with a trailer. Take the horse wagon outfitters. I bet you loved going over the mountain on the way in. LOL ! By the way, the North-South Trail should be much better from the trailhead at the campground. Last time I was on it, anyway.
You are now doing exactly what I always do for all of my time except for a few occasional bike packing with hammocks mostly I bike pack with fishing gear
This would have been a good time to do the dog face oceanspray cranberry video. Drinking cranberry juice, singing a cranberries song, along the cranberry river. lol
Decades ago I use to fish that for Memorial Day weekend with scouts and I would love to take my Salsa Journeyman gravel bike down that and other roads in the area bike packing.
I loved the video, thanks so much for all the hard work producing it. I felt as if I were there on the camping trip with you all. I highly doubt that stream is fished out, just because a few hours spent fishing ends with zero fish caught doesn't mean the stream is fished out. More often than not, the trout are in super shallow water 3 or 4 inches deep and are virtually invisible to the eye, and not in the deep pools. Fly rod would be my last choice, I would have a small light rod & reel with 4 pound test line, small hook, and small live worms, letting the bait float down the shallows along the banks where there's weeds outcroppings. Many people mistakenly assume trout are in the deep pools and are visible, they're almost impossible to see unless they are on the move to another spot. Also, these brook trout move up into even smaller brooks that feed the stream you were fishing, tiny little brooks that people would never think they could catch a 7 inch fish from. As for catch and release, I never understood the point of that, to torture an animal and sometimes cause death or permanent damage then throw him back, makes no sense. Catch and eat is the only thing that makes sense to me
People used to laugh when you packed in Doritos but here you are doubling down and packing in chicken wings. Great content, videos keep getting better through the years
Horseshit with these 2 guys. I've been exactly where they are and fished it in July. I caught 16 trout, released them all. My friend caught like 8. Maybe they need some fishing lessons. Great river
I have a challenge for either one of you two Take your Arkhall use either your tent setup or your hammock setup Plus your water filter in of course some food and fuel the normal packing items And take your fishing equipment as well one fishing rod or two fishing rods it doesn't matter As long as they can collapse to a small space A little bit of fishing equipment such as plugs worms grubs spoons and whatnot Take only one camera And you cannot forget a BB gun pistol If you are unsure what that is for is for the hunting of rabbits and other small game you're fishing equipment is for fishing you are not taking food go out for seven days approximately 3.5 days out and 3.5 days back I have done that when I was much younger I went from Cleveland Ohio down to the mountaineers in West Virginia well technically 5 minutes away from the mountaineers I did pay my five cents to go over the footbridge Remember the food is just for emergencies that you didn't catch anything or hunt anything
Guys, I think you make some of the best videos on RUclips. So next time you go bike packing please wear helmets. The only time I have had to call 911 is while biking a trail. If my friend wasn't wearing a helmet he wouldn't have made it.
Go to a bike shop and let them help you set seat height. Biking is much easier when your legs are more extended.

Very cool, will need to check that out! WV is amazing
I haven’t seen a Gary Fisher bike in years! Stoked to see some fly fishing action.
Yeah, dusted her off for this trip!
Hey I was wondering what happened to my net

Thanks Lisa, I've heard of slate run too, need to check that out

Yeah when we backpacked there in May it was packed with people fishing. Apparently there's a stock in late October too

Thanks!
Awesome you guys came back to the mountain state!
WV is amazing

Thats awesome! Dogway was an amazing shelter (and creek!)
Great video guys! Love fishing down there.... When there are fish lol
Those were some beautiful shots! Looks like alot of fun down there, good to be in the woods!
Thanks!
Great trip guys. Looked like a blast!! That’s the way to eat in the woods. Fly fishing and bike packing looked fun.
The only fun biking is going uphill, you definitely have it backwards😊 Looked like a fun time!
Sounds like a fun weekend with the Lads, sorry the fish were kind of lacking :D
That's why they call it fishing and not catching!
@@SchillBrothersOutdoors Damn them for naming it so 😂😂
How did you determine who had to bike in the cooler? Rochambeau?
hahahahahahaha, I (Andy) had the rack on the bike
Cool trip. That edit was 👍👍
thanks!

That low clear water makes it tough. Looked like a good time though.
Yeah, water level was down for sure, but still really nice stretches with some deep holes
And by the way very unique and awesome video like I said that's what I normally do on my weekends

A bad day at fishing is still better than a good day in the office 🐟🏞️☘️🍀
heck yes!
Thanks guys!
Thanks!
That looked like a lot of fun. Packet Gourmet has upped there game for sure. Take care and stay safe, Al
Thanks Al!

Not gonna lie, it was a rough 7 mile ride into Dogway with all the gear. Going back was much easier!
Looks like a fun trip Andy is definitely looking like he works out 💪🏽 every day he’s looking ultralight lol god bless schill bros
thanks!
You are now doing exactly what I always do for all of my time except for a few occasional bike packing with hammocks mostly I bike pack with fishing gear
We need to do more of this, what a great way to do a trip
Great thumbnail, always impressed with the quality of your videos.

I’m in Dayton Some of the best fly fishing for trout in the state is on the Mad River check out mad river outfitters in Columbus
I've fished the Mad a few time and have loved it - well aware of mad river outfitters! (great youtube channel too)
People used to laugh when you packed in Doritos but here you are doubling down and packing in chicken wings. Great content, videos keep getting better through the years
Thanks so much!
lol did andy buy a whole new setup just for this trip to catch nothing
#DiscoFishing okay this actually works
