Being an ex soldier the John Hale photo really got to me. We owe our freedom from the Nazis, to the sacrifice he, and many like him made on that historical day of June 6th 1944. And to those who fought on and died right up to the surrender of both Germany and Japan.
No matter how poor, middle class or rich the real supposed environment.. everything just looked like it was built with such quaility or were inventions of guenuine uniqueness back then.
Even when looking at the various people, most of them, just seem to look, a lot more healthier and well put together, even happy and very determinedly motivated, than people are today.
There's a great energy, I feel, many of them possess. No matter what the circumstance, they are photographed. I am also astonished at the clarity you find in most of the images photographed.
I feel it from the many images.. like they all deeply lived.
Wow, you really put your own feelings into pictures of people just like us, and you see them as being very different. Wish fulfillment.
Oh yes.. If that was your goal? You most certainly did accomplish that. At first I wasn't going to comment, but as I went through, I felt it so strong and saw the essence of being full of real life and joy and living energy, exude from the images. It was like wow! I want whatever they are drinking/eating/ thinking. And no matter how many pictures on Instagram, Facebook etc., people create and display there is something (an energy, a spirit.. something) truly missing in modern folk and modern life now. No matter how much people dress themselves up, in this time period, that essence of living or having lived, it's just not there anymore. Or I'll at least say rarely. Anyway I really enjoyed. I will check out more of your work. Great job!โฃ๏ธ
The photo that impacted me the most was of the two men of the 101st Airborne on June 6, 1944 (dressed as Apaches) getting ready to parachute into St. Mere Eglise, France. My father, Captain Robert L. Jackson, was an Army Air Corp. pilot of C47 named "Eightball" assigned to drop the 101 and 82 Airborne parachutists on that day and the two following days during the D-Day Invasion at Normandy, France. I am writing this comment on June 6, 2024, 80 years later. Dad's remains are in Arlington National Cemetery. He was one of the Greatest Generation, along with these two men.
Marie , l wish your father could have been in Normandy France for the recognition of the Greatest Generation. I only saw it on tv but it was very moving. These men were indeed the greatest, not only the parachutists but all those who paid the ultimate price on land and water. The survivors had life long horrors . One gentleman passed on his way to Normandy, he was 102 years old. I wish I could have given these strong brave old guys a big hug and a kiss on the cheek โค War is Hell.
I wanted you to know that others grieve also, some, like me, don't realize what this is all about until we are also much older and have also lost. Bless you ๐. Thank you for your message.

How did we lose control of our beautiful world?
Progress.
These are photos, not reality. The colors in particular are not real. You are allowing yourself to be fooled.
When we started looking down to this device
Greed, Godlessness & an "everyone out for themselves" mentality.
Lost the ability for LOVE & something called GREED โฆโฆ thatโs 2 of 1000 things within the human condition.
Peter Papalia (see wall ad at top left) was a newcomer pharmacist in NY. He'd eventually retired to AZ and die at age 98, in 2004.
Enjoyed viewing parts of history. Thanks
Thanks for the great pictures and for giving us time to read the captions
Beautiful photos and music
Can you imagine sending your toddler to a relative via mail present day?! The child will never make it to the destination! A different time and different human society over a hundred years past.
Especially how unreliable FedEx is! ๐ฎ
The postmen or railroad worker 'delivering' children were usually family members (cousins or so on) or close family friends. There wasn't mass mailing of children across the nation.
All awesome. Thx!
So powerful pictures! They got lots of senseโค
Send babies through the post????
I got a kick out seeing Lurch from Adams Family at the 4:15 mark.
It's always good to look back on these photos.๐
Though the photos were wonderful, they're hardly the MOST POWERFUL ones ever seen
0..38. now I know where the term โhaving a pissโ. comes from
23:35 A ceiling-mounted monorail for children in a department store? That's awesome! We used to be a proper country.
Damn, Pam did a number on Jim
"a family photo" 1800..spooky ๐ฒ๐จ
The "seal" at 2:30 is a sea lion.

Being an ex GI the soldiers pictures effected me but the rest were nothing if not interesting.
All of them!
...and yet they survived
Pablo Picasso's shot..add a little mustache under the nose.. resemblance is uncanny!

I will be good. I will be good. I will be good. ๐ Monstrous punishment! lol
Great old photos.

Are these AI?
Some are certainly not as Iโve seen them long before AI. Obviously the color versions were either hand painted or colorized using other techniques some time after the images were created.
Why was the mother, posing with their child, covered in many old photos? ๐ค
That has never made sense to me either. Why would she not want to have a photograph of herself with the child?
@@RevLeigh55 I suspect it was done because back then it took a long time to take a photo. Perhaps that way the child was not distracted of the mother's face. But that's just my thought๐....it could have been for another reason.
It was a Post Mortem picture. It was hard to pose the children that had passed. The mothers held the children and hid behind the curtains. So the picture is about the children and not the mothers. At least this is what I thought.
That poor child on the hidden woman/mother looked sceptical and unsure about it. While the scene may be innocuous, back in those times there were people that took pictures with their dead. I just hope nobody did that to the little girl.
mom was no longer living ie;dead
10:20 that little girl is tougher than you will ever be.
Great memories. My only suggestion when showing such a large quantity of nostalgic photos would be not to linger too long on each photo.
Length between pictures is fine.
English is not everyone's native language, and to read it and view the pictures we need some time. ๐
@@rattus3102 different strokes for different folks. My opinion is mine, your opinion is yours.
โ@@stanmansI'm sorry, I didn't mean to be negative about your comment; of course everyone is entitled to an opinion. I just wanted to say that for many people it is nice to have a little more time with each foto. ๐
@@rattus3102 no problem. ๐ฎโ๐จ๐๐
Absolutely disagree. I love scrutinizing all the details in the photos
