@@yashchakravarty513 There are three timelines: Yennefer's Origin (starts 30 years before Geralt's adventures) Geralt's Adventures (15 years before Ciri's Story) Ciri's Story (Starts 15 years after Geralt's Adventures)
The idea "People linked by destiny will always find each other" is the reason the season 1 presented that way. The stories/events moved in such a way that at the end Geralt and Ciri met. Now in season 2 you will watch things in proper order.
Exactly! The mystery behind them keep saying destiny and law of surprise made sense. If it were presented in chronological order it would have been just plain and a silly word bunch of words for those who didnt read the books.
Unfortunately they left out the part where the merchant offers Geralt the Law of the Surprise for saving him, which would have been Ciri anyway. that was a subtle but amazing touch in this entire series.
Tbh the steps that leads Geralt and Ciri to this coming together are way better in the books. In the books, they met before. In the series, it felt kinda off, when they hug each other without the history they had in the books...
@@Haniel93 though there isn’t a deep connection in the books either. They met in brokilon forest and he guided her home. It’s just that they knew a little before. I think the hug was meant as a visualization of the deeper connection they have through the bound of the law of surprise. But yes, it didn’t feel very natural the one or the other way.
@@Haniel93 Books good, but personally I also like how they handled it in the show. It showed that they each "recognized" each other and emphasized their connection, and gave viewers a nice big emotional payoff at the end.
@@franzkuntschnig1320 they ALSO met in Brokilon. But the first time they met was in another forest where Ciri was way more younger than when she was in Brokilon. Geralt helped/rescued her from (I think it was something bout a big cat that cannot climb trees. Sorry it's a bit hazy now since it's been awhile that I've read the book) a monster. She got lost from her caravan due to her curiosity about the place (and of course she's a kid). Yes you're correct, when I watched the series first then the book; the series was a little bit unnatural of the way they met. But it might be a good reason that they didn't totally follow the books so that we will read them. And I just did. Andrej just gain another fan from me
Seems like people can't keep up with three different timelines. I personally liked that i had to use at least one braincell instead of beeing spoon-fed everything.
Because the way they adapted the first two books is atrocious, and the timeline jumps are near impossible to follow unless you're familiar with the source material. Not that it matters given how much they cut from the original.
@@Arthas30000 I see where you're coming from. I was a newcomer and didn't know what I was in for. I just appreciated the "aha!" moment when I realized it was three different timelines and totally loved how it all came together in episode 7(i think)
I really loved the different timelines of the first season, how it was used as a narrative mechanism that made us ask questions until it clicks at the end or on second rewatches. It will really make Season 1 unique to the upcoming ones~
I’ve seen season 1 three times but this was still very entertaining! I just want to clarify that Sabrina was under mind control when she attacked Yen:)
@@cryst4l882 I think it's hinted that he's a very dark mind that has his own agenda - to fight, kill, hurt others. He's definitely not a spy, evidenced by his chat mid fight with the man with the winged helmet, but can't be trusted. He'll probably slip over to the "winning" side if he thinks it'll get him what he wants
I love how people talk about the sequence of events, you have to know that this is how the whole first book is written. The first season is just the stories from the first book.
that is false, that is VERY false. The first book followed ONLY Geralt and kept the lore close to its heart. The entire story of how Yennefer got her powers etc is all in later books. As far as I remember, the only stories with her were the titular Last Wish story and the Gold Dragon one
I've read the first book, this is not an excuse for the first season's mess. It was bad, not only the pacing and visual quality, but also the writing and some of the unnecessary "politically correct" changes.
I will NEVER understand why on earth they chose to put this entire season out of order. This 15 minute recap has literally made Season 1 go from WTF??? to WTF!!!!! This is by far the best way to have watched Season 1.
While i agree the season makes a lot more sense when it's in chronological order (having not read the books or played the games), i think the way they structured the storyline was the only way to really get to know ciri's storyline and character. Otherwise we would just see her for the last episode or two and not really get to know her as a character.
they had changed order because yen's story is earlier in timeline and if they start show with her it would not make any sense since, geralt is central part of story, so they introduced yen in second episode instead of first thus leading them to follow different order
@@technohubyogesh2057 I think I would have been ok with that but they did this time shifting thing almost through the entire season. If it happened maybe once or twice fine, but it was constantly all over the place and left us going, do what? Geralt didn't want this because he doesn't want to subject a child to a difficult life - this is different to in the book though. in the book, he claims the law of surprise on purpose, expecting the baby to be a boy so he can train him to be a witcher.
@@LemonSte Well yes I did watch the show, but in my limited experience in this world puking never signifies a pregnancy. I know he’s bound to her, but in that moment I didn’t and still don’t quite get how he’s connecting the dots.

@@yungblacky2939 it was hard to understand the first time you watch it until episode 7. Where they align the time jumps with first episode and it is clearer. But until episode 7 it's confusing as hell. It should be simple to watch and read the show. I hope season 2 doesn't have these time jumps. They don't even have subtitles for these timelines. They just come unannounced out of nowhere and confuse the viewer. I had to rewatch the show and use Google to help me understand it. I have watched many shows. This recap just shows how one decision of telling the story in the mess they did held back the series a lot. Season 1 with this order makes it much more understable and better in general. Also, if you'll should've squeezed Gerald meeting Triss.
@@darrickn6786 Coming from someone who hasn't played any game or read a single thing about, makes the story more complicated than it should. I like complicated stuff like Tenet, but in this case I think a linear adaptation would've been better.

Well, clearly they think he is. There is a video about making the music of S2 - you should watch it. The music on that video Joseph Trapanese wrote sounds very damn close to the Witcher 3 music while still capturing the work Sonya and Giona did. I liked what I heard. Frankly, it's even better IMHO. Sonya's music was great, but a bit over the top at times. I think this guy is going to bring a whole new immersive element to TW soundtrack. @@celticbabs3105 You think Netflix's Witcher season 1 OST was over the top? Than you probably didn't listen to the Witcher 3 OST properly, cause that soundtrack is atleast 3x more exagerated. And that's what makes it distinctively Witcher-esque. Season 1 OST borrows a lot from it, but tones it down to be more of it's own thing. It's unique. Meanwhile Joseph's soundtrack seems very generic (violins everywhere, which is not even a medieval instrument) and it recycles themes from Season 1. But it's too soon to judge, we need to hear all of it first.
yes exactly... the timeline ist just so messed up in season 1 and everything just kinda didn't make sense the way it did in the books. But i believe in season 2 they make up for it.
yeah, they will take major liberties again i think, but thats also ok, if it's well done. For me it's ok to see a slightly different story in the show than it was portrayed in the books, that way i have a reason to watch it and not just be satisfied with my imagination of the books. The first season actually inspired me to read all the books before season 2 to see what was different and the same applies to the new wheel of time show. I quite like it, when the story is not exactly like in the books to keep me motivated. But thats just a personal take

Listen again to the last line in this very recap. "People linked by destiny will always find each other." Literally has no weight, since you wouldn't have even met Ciri until the last episode. The whole point was to show that these 3 were on a collision course with one another culminating in the final sequence of the season.
I just realized watching this that Jaskier doesn't age at all. He and Geralt knew each other before Ciri was born and then when they go hunting for the Dragon its like 15 years or so later and he still looks the same age :D :D :D
In one of the books Dijkstra describes jaskier as a 40 year old man who looks 30 thinks he is still 20 and acts like a ten year old. I believe it was at the end of blood and elves
Thank you SO MUCH for this. Since I am not super familiar with the Witcher universe to start with, I was left a little confused by the time jumps/timeline of the 1st season. Let's just say this recap saved me a complete rewatch. :D
Wooooow diese Serie ist wirklich mega hammerstark gefällt mir das Spiel ist bereits der hammer aber die Serie übertrifft alles absolut mega. 🖤🖤🔥🔥🖤🗡💯👍👍👍
Season 1 needed an episode narrated by the actors explaining the world their stories take place in, the prevailing powers and alliances. Hopefully season 2 doesn't suffer from similar problems.
I think the time jumps would've been fine had they explained that witchers/mages don't age like regular humans. If you've never engaged with the books/games how are you supposed to know that Geralt is well above 80 in the present timeline? A literal 30 second scene or a line or 2 of dialogue explaining what witchers actually are would've been nice. It's the same with the potions and his eyes turning black, this is never explained in the show either and is instead just assumed. Are all the potions doing the same thing or is he drinking different potions for different scenarios like in the games? Other than that I think it's great, things make a lot of sense in s2 and you can appreciate s1 more during a rewatch.
IF, if, people pay attention, they will see in one of the first episodes Yennefer calls out that she has alredy lived a long time for example. There are multiple examples of characters saying roughly how much time passed
There are clues about this littered throughout the whole series if youd listen to the dialogue carefully. Yennefer makes some references to her long life in the first few episodes as well as the last episode. In the last episode youll even catch a few other mages saying “ive lived long enough” before they head into battle at sodden, and also dialogue between Tissia and Yennefer, yennefer tells her that shes lived 2 or 3 lifetimes and is prepared to die. Just some examples
This is excellent ...it makes sense now...thank you to the crew that made this sequential recap. cheers Looking forward to Season 3 & 4 & hoping to see Jason Momoa in the future show
That was excellent. Literally saved me from having to rewatch the whole thing to get my head around the timeline jumps. I honestly thought Netflix had labelled the episodes in the wrong order at one point first time around. Or someone had watched too many Christopher Nolan movies 😁
A lot of fans are now signing a petition to have the crappy showrunners removed and that's probably why Henry is no more. They think they can just do whatever with a story we deeply love, they think they can milk us for money by replacing the one we like, they don't give a damn about the wishes and feelings of their own fans, but in the end they won't collide with nothing but hatred for what they've done... If you're interested, I can share the link to the petition, anyway, as a way to support Henry and his beautiful incarnation of Geralt
Good job Netflix. Season 1 felt messy and disconnected to me, and through this recap I feel like I now understand the overall story much better going into season 2.
Season two sadly very much stray away from the books and the original meaning of the story , the only part of it that is book accurate is the Nevillen short story . The messy first season was actually very much accurate
I finally understand the season! The time jumps were so confusing to me, but I kept watching because the show is so well made. Thank you for making this recap in chronological order 👌🏼 the show and story finally makes sense now!
The whole story is based around the law of surprise. If you know what the law of surprise is you will follow the story easily. If you don't know what the law is then may the god help you. I had to Google what this law is. 😂
OMG get it started already!! Can't wait! I just hope you can fix the elves for the upcoming seasons. They are supposed to all be stunning majestic and beautiful. The elves in season one looked like some one glued pig ears to the side of their heads.
lool ngl u right. They could have picked someone a bit more impressive for the elf king. Maybe the idea is thought that they've been brought to their lowest, starving, perhaps that affects their appearance a lot

Exactly! The mystery behind them keep saying destiny and law of surprise made sense. If it were presented in chronological order it would have been just plain and a silly word bunch of words for those who didnt read the books.
i honestly loved how it was out of order. it was like piecing a puzzle together.
Cavill pushed to stay true to the book for season 2. he got it.
Andrej just gain another fan from me
😭Why are people so pressed about how the timeline was handled in the first season. It really was such an interesting way to tell the story.
Seems like people can't keep up with three different timelines. I personally liked that i had to use at least one braincell instead of beeing spoon-fed everything.
@@Chikina "me so smart everyone else so dumb everyone congratulate me"
Because the way they adapted the first two books is atrocious, and the timeline jumps are near impossible to follow unless you're familiar with the source material. Not that it matters given how much they cut from the original.
@@Arthas30000 I see where you're coming from. I was a newcomer and didn't know what I was in for. I just appreciated the "aha!" moment when I realized it was three different timelines and totally loved how it all came together in episode 7(i think)

What were the different tike lines ?
i think it's a cool idea but the show sometimes lacked in its execution of the idea

He'll probably slip over to the "winning" side if he thinks it'll get him what he wants
I love how people talk about the sequence of events, you have to know that this is how the whole first book is written. The first season is just the stories from the first book.
For sure, I know the first book is a bunch of stories. It definitely helps though to get a recap in chronological order.
Ya thats cool but Would be nice if they just flashed a year on the screen, just a small thing, really
that is false, that is VERY false. The first book followed ONLY Geralt and kept the lore close to its heart. The entire story of how Yennefer got her powers etc is all in later books. As far as I remember, the only stories with her were the titular Last Wish story and the Gold Dragon one
@@dormrifle6174 there's also a shard of ice story, which introduces istredd
I've read the first book, this is not an excuse for the first season's mess. It was bad, not only the pacing and visual quality, but also the writing and some of the unnecessary "politically correct" changes.
this is an epic video of the witcher. best i ve seen so far.

"The dwarves, they are leading us to a shorter path."
I see what you did there Witcher.
That "Fuck" when he realized the law of suprise is hilarious af lol.
I don’t quite get why he said “fuck”, can somebody explain it to me. Like I don’t get what the puking signifies.
@@trollwayy5981 didn't you watch the show lol? basically she pukes, which signifies she's pregnant. it's a pretty lazy symbol, but an obvious one. he says 'fuck' because now he's bound their child to him through the law of surprise - in this case geralt is like 80 or something (looks younger than he is) so he won't be expected to marry Ciri, but he will be connected to her now as a father figure.

"They took my choice."
"I want it back"

It is.
I can't say more other than that there shouldn't be anymore confusion regarding chronological order.
First season was not that hard to understand
@@yungblacky2939 it was hard to understand the first time you watch it until episode 7. Where they align the time jumps with first episode and it is clearer. But until episode 7 it's confusing as hell. It should be simple to watch and read the show. I hope season 2 doesn't have these time jumps. They don't even have subtitles for these timelines. They just come unannounced out of nowhere and confuse the viewer. I had to rewatch the show and use Google to help me understand it. I have watched many shows. No other show made me google like this one to help me understand it. Any series should be easy to understand. Also they use a lot of jargon and terminology which if you haven't read the books or played the games is so confusing. You don't know what they are even talking about. Damn good recap. This should be standard for everything they do.
This recap just shows how one decision of telling the story in the mess they did held back the series a lot. Season 1 with this order makes it much more understable and better in general. Also, if you'll should've squeezed Gerald meeting Triss.
But it was a fun surprise to discover there were actually 2 timelines!!!!
The timelines just ties into the theme of destiny it’s perfect.
What the comments before said plus having it in parallel allowed to have all three characters evolve at the same time instead of having it sequential.

Please bring back Sonya and Giona for the soundtrack, as good as Joseph is, he is not the right fit for witcher
We are not the people who make these decisions and to make assumptions without any real understanding just makes you look butt hurt.

But it's too soon to judge, we need to hear all of it first.

yeah, they will take major liberties again i think, but thats also ok, if it's well done. The first season actually inspired me to read all the books before season 2 to see what was different and the same applies to the new wheel of time show. Literally nothing stopped Netflix from creating this series in this order.
Agreed, why did they need to confuse us...
@@adamknight5089 because they though it would be too complicated for us small brained audience members to understand that one of the stars of a show can be introduced halfway through a series, so they made the backwards decision that 3 different timelines needed to be shown from the very first episode…. Ironically then making it so much more complicated.
It's mentioned in the books that Dandelion often is mistaken for an elf because of how youthful he looks
@@hefudgedafrog Isn't it even implied that he is like 1/4 elf? Hence looking so young all the time
If some of the characters looked liked they aged it definitely would've made the whole alternating time lines click a lot sooner
Yen did mention his crow feet were new.
In one of the books Dijkstra describes jaskier as a 40 year old man who looks 30 thinks he is still 20 and acts like a ten year old. I believe it was at the end of blood and elves
Ah Yennefer releasing her rage still gives me full-body goose bumps...Brrrr.

I'm so pumped for Friday. Can't wait to watch season two 4 times in the new year
More excited for Witcher season 02 than I am about christmas lmao!

I wish cavill didn't leave he is the perfect for the roll, don't know if as anyone else can replace him
A lot of fans are now signing a petition to have the crappy showrunners removed and that's probably why Henry is no more.
