- La reconstitution 3D de la ménagerie exotique de Louis XIV permet pour la première fois de voir et de parcourir ce lieu légendaire. Cette maquette numérique est présentée dans la salle consacrée à la zoologie et aux sciences vétérinaires. Une présentation animée de l'acheminement des eaux à Versailles, prouesse technique du siècle de Louis XIV, est mise en regard de la maquette de la machine de Marly pour mieux comprendre les enjeux scientifiques.

The architecture of the menagerie is so conceptually articulate without trying to be. That's always been the most elusive element that other cultures can't seem to replicate when they "copy" French design: to have a fully fleshed out idea that gives the impression you didn't put much thought into it and the result be so perfect. This menagerie is incredibly beautiful. And interesting, novel, flirty, grand, simple, etc. I would LOVE to live in it. Of course, I'd put in bathrooms, plumbing, electrical, central heat & air, insulation, double paned windows, venting for the kitchen and bathrooms, central vacuum, pest control tubes, fire sprinkler system and I'd need a place to hide the air conditioner unit outside but where? Modern living sure is difficult and ugly.
In August of 2019, I skipped Paris entirely and drove straight to Versailles from CDG. During this visit I made it a point to explore former Royal sites that are no longer around such as Meudon, Marly le Roi and St Cloud.
I "almost" found these former Royal Residences to be more fascinating than the ones we all know and love because there are STILL some remnants left!
At Marly (a short drive from Versailles) you can still see the foundation of the little chateau as well as the remains of where the grand cascade once was. At Meudon, the Orangerie is pretty much restored (under a terrace) as well as 1/3 of the "new chateau" which is now a dilapidated observatory. St Cloud is gone but, the gardens and terrace remain as well as the outbuildings which housed staff and diplomats.
The really outrageous element of my trip in 2019 was that, as the more famous areas were overrun with tourists, I was literally the ONLY person to be found within these other enclaves of Royal splendor!
I recently visited Versailles (June 2022) and stayed at the Hotel Le Grand Controle and this accommodation allowed for a unique experience at Versailles because, hotel guests can access the inner apartments which are too small to open for tourists. With this "new" experience I can honestly say that the Petite Trianon has it's most interesting features on the 3rd and 4th floor and that the private apartments of the Queen at the main Chateau are, in a word - AWFUL!
The next time I visit Versailles I will make it a point to walk out to this former menagerie.
Hopefully before the century is out the menagerie will be reconstructed. As it is it is a sad void in the gardens of Versailles. This digital reconstruction is fabulous.

Chateau de Marly should be rebuild as well. The damages done by the revolution should be reconstituted, by the same goverment who caused these destructions, no matter how long ago. Without responsibility there is no justice.

@@natha2460 Mais du coup pourquoi il y a écrit que la ménagerie a été construite sous Louis XIV et selon la volonté de Marie-Antoinette alors qu'elle était même pas née
AVALON la seule personne faisant des contradictions et anachronismes c’est vous.
Il y a écrit Louis XIV et non Louis XVI de plus le Veau vécu au 17ème siècle, soit avant la naissance de louis XVI.
De plus il n’est nullement écrit qu’il fut construit pour Marie Antoinette.
La ménagerie fut édifier pour le roi qui était un grand adorateur de faune exotique, avant même la fin des travaux du château.
Le hameau situé au nord du petit trianon fut un réaménagement du parc pour Marie Antoinette. Vous confondez donc probablement avec ce lieu.
Il est une bonne chose de s’intéresser à notre histoire mais vous semblez tirer des conclusions extrêmement rapidement et sans fondement.

MrMijack13 absolument pas. La ménagerie était un projet de louis xiv. Les rois lui succédant se sont tous désintéressés de cet édifice. 50 ans avant la revolution déjà le bâtiment fut déclaré en ruine. Il s’est effondré de lui même après la revolution
