- L'orgue de Notre-Dame résonne à nouveau. Cinq ans après l’incendie, ça y est, il a été restauré, réinstallé. Nous avons pu l'entendre pour la toute première fois dans son écrin.

A l’âge avancé que j’avais le jour de l’incendie, je pensais ne jamais pouvoir ré-entendre le son de cette orgue ... quel bonheur 🙏 !!

So much respect from England to each and every engineer, restorer, craftsman who has given back the world the Cathedral loved by us all.... and so much respect to this gentleman and all his team who have restored the organ. The French are, and have always been, very great engineers.

Un travail qui peut être long que d'accorder cet "instrument" si complexe et si gigantesque ! J'adore l'orgue et ses claviers, "pédales" et "boutons". J'étais petite quand je chantais à la chorale de l'église à côté de l'épouse de notre Pasteur, qui nous accompagnait à l'orgue. Ce jeu des mains et des pieds m'avait impressionnée, et ces sons, les vibrations !! Magnifiques 😀👌👌🎶🎹

Les grandes orgues sont en cours de remontage : c'est merveilleux ! Mais que devient l'orgue de chœur, qui accompagne les chants de la maîtrise et du chœur d'adultes ?

J'ai une pensée ce jour pour Pierre Cochereau, Louis Vierne et tous les autres grand maîtres qui se sont succédé au clavier de cet orgue magnifique. Impatient d'entendre à nouveau la puissance inimitable de cet orgue Cavaillé-Coll légendaire. Les voûtes vont trembler à nouveau à Notre-Dame !
This instrument was my first concern when I saw those ghastly flames erupting from this historic building. Praising God for the restoration of the building of international importance and this organ! Olivier Latry please bring your brilliant musicianship back to this instrument!!

While the titular organist is here in Australia it's great to hear the instrument coming back to life.
This is amazing! The video shows some of the magnificent stained glass as well as pipes of the organ! The gentlemen are carefully selected tor this work and wearing protective gear so as not to introduce any dust or other particulates into the electrical systems. I was present at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC when it was being serviced; that was a memorable experience.

We, organists, professionals, students, amateurs, beginning and experienced musicians, music lovers, heritage lovers and defenders, the public and believers, protest against the changes to Notre-Dame’s team of organists imposed without consultation on April 24, 2024 by the cathedral’s rector.
Why were new organists needed at Notre-Dame de Paris? After the disastrous fire, the perfectly understandable decision was taken to lay off the Notre-Dame organists for economic reasons, with the exception of the choir organist, whose service was still required, albeit relocated to Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois.
Five years after April 15, 2019, what is the justification for the partial renewal of the current team? Why was Johann Vexo (substitute choir organist for the past 20 years at the time of the fire) sidelined? Why wasn’t Philippe Lefebvre offered the chance to remain at his position for at least a few months, to participate alongside his colleagues in the cathedral’s reopening ceremonies?
The way in which new organists have been recruited continues to raise questions. Indeed, since 1984 - the date of Cardinal Lustiger's Ordonnance, which proposed special arrangements for "certain organs of specially consecrated renown" - competition has been the sole means of recruiting cathedral organists. Why such a choice?
Of course, the role of any church organist is to serve the liturgy. And as such, it's up to the rector of the cathedral to preside over the choice of appointments. But Notre-Dame, whose international renown is undeniable, is also a most important symbol of organs and music in general, both in France and throughout the world. In view of its immense reputation, it is our duty to make it shine with the talent of highly qualified artists. Notre-Dame de Paris has always been home to exceptional musicians who have brought - and continue to bring - honor to the profession: personalities who have previously proved themselves not only through their vast experience as servants of the liturgy, but also through their academic careers, their success in international competitions, and their international careers.
Of course, exceptional careers call for exceptional arrangements: the appointment of Thierry Escaich, renowned composer, improviser, international concert performer, winner of five Victoires de la musique awards, professor of composition and improvisation at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, cannot be contested.
On the other hand, the recruitment without competition and for an indefinite period of time of a young 21-year-old organist, just a student, in the course of his studies and without any diploma, to the choir organ but also to the great organ, on the sole faith of a “promising talent”, seems incomprehensible. It is an arbitrary choice that can’t be explained on artistic grounds, and sends out the wrong signal to young professional organists who have taken or are taking the trouble to train extensively in both musical repertoire and liturgical accompaniment, demonstrating, in the final analysis, a very high level of church musicianship. How can we explain to them that the high level of skills acquired through their work might not be taken into account in the criteria leading to an appointment?
That is why we’re calling for the return of the organists on duty at the time of the fire on April 15, 2019, with the addition - since the rector is calling for a “reinforced” team - of the talented Thierry Escaich. In addition, nothing prevents Philippe Lefebvre’s retirement from being deferred, with respect and dignity, for a few months. As for youth, it is obviously welcome and expected, but any appointment must be subject to the practices that have governed the appointment of organists up until now, and which underpin the legitimacy of the fortunate ones selected in the eyes of the profession, and, more broadly, of believers, of the musical public and lovers of musical and ecclesiastical heritage.
Olivier Latry was only 23 years old when he was made one of the four titular organists at Notre-Dame.

It is surely a miracle that the organ survived and I am sure the restoration of the pipework and internal workings was done to exacting standards. But with the entire cathedral restoration being carried out with meticulous care and detail, it is astonishing that a Cavaillé-Coll style console was not made for this most illustrious instrument instead of this space-age creation with what looks like plastic knobs and couplers. Disappointing.
It was there before the fire so I guess it would be an unnecessary expense to replace a relatively new console.
@@SirReginaldBlomfield1234 Evidently. But that cheesy thing is probably half way though its lifespan already. Let's say a Cavaille-Coll replica console would cost $100,000. that's about .013% of the roughly 760 Million dollar restoration. That organ is certainly worth it.
@@BG-sl9lv Actually they were supposed to build a replica of the Cavaille-Coll console in the 2012-2014 restauration but turned out that fitting all the 114 drawstops (originally the CC organ only had 86 stops) into it would have made some pretty much impossible to reach for an organist since it would have been so huge. The current console's rear side is actually the exact copy of the original so at least it looks the same to people viewing it from the nave. Personally, I don't understand why they went with the lighter wood on the organist's side since it doesn't match either Cochereau's pedal board they kept or the organ buffet.

@@MrSUPERDUCONfaudrait t’informer un peu avant de te marrer, ça n’a rien à voir… La note LA du diapason est effectivement accordée par convention sur 440Hz, c’est la fréquence qu’on retrouve dans tous les orchestres, les pianos… Bref. En revanche, dans certaines églises, l’orgue est accordé différemment, le LA n’est pas sur 440Hz. Par exemple lorsqu’on recherche la Toccata et Fugue en Ré Mineur de Bach (BWV565) sur RUclips, on retrouve plusieurs versions qui sonnent différemment. Il y a notamment cette version : ruclips.net/video/w-QLSPmzMZo/видео.htmlsi=8SRyp6o5pFxxvTX5 qui sonne plus aiguë que la version classique, tout simplement parce que cet orgue n’est pas accordé à 440Hz, sans doute une question d’histoire, ou de sonorité… Voilà…

il me semble qu'il faut reconstruire les parties en bois (ce qui a été inondé) et il est prévu de l'agrandir. il ne sera pas prêt pour la réouverture

Absolument pas... L'Orgue de la Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris est bien le plus grand de France... Et de loin ! L'Orgue de Sainte Eustache étant le Cinquième... (si l'on associe bien la notion de grandeur d'un Orgue à sa Composition)...
saint Eustache est plus grand en termes de dimensions du buffet mais notre-dame comporte plus de jeux
@@Witise c'est bien pour cela que l'on raisonne plus en terme de composition que de taille de buffet... Parce que les 18,50 mètres de hauteur du buffet du Cavaillé-Coll de Saint Sulpice à Paris, ou les 16,50 mètres de largeur du Moucherel de Sainte Cécile à Albi ; on est bien à des dimensions plus conséquentes qu'à Sainte Eustache... Donc, pour revenir au commentaire initial, un Orgue dont la composition est "131/VI/P" (Notre Dame de Paris) est bien plus grand qu'un "101/V/P" (Sainte Eustache)... L'Orgue de Notre Dame de Paris est plus grand, plus conséquent que celui de Sainte Eustache... Et même Celui de Notre Dame est le plus grand Orgue de France.
