I have the M2 Pro Mac mini and I am happy with it. I have the base model and it is a great Price/Performance value. If I wanted to upgrade the memory and ssd, I think I would buy the new M2 Mac Studio.
Just traded in my MacBookAir M1 for Mac Mini Pro; wanted to be future proof myself. I had my Air plugged in 95% of the time at home didn’t need the portability.
I did the same! How's it holding up? Mine will be here in few days
@@amenahdhirani7334it has been fantastic it’s my daily driver desktop. No issues stable like a beast !!!
Well, thank you for your your positive attitude towards this machine. I have almost got the same (16 GB of RAM, 1 TB SSD, as many cores as possible, …) and I’m very satisfied with it! I use it mainly for music production with Logic Pro.
Thanks for stopping in and commenting 🤝
Best ome out yet. Answer ed all questions
Thanks for the feedback and for watching 🤝
Have had mine since release, got real lucky there
Great machine no slowdowns, just normal browser issues
I think a lot of people love their M2 Mac mini. 👍
I was still on the fence about it, but now that you've said that, I'm seriously tempted to buy it!🙌💸
Thank you so much for the detailed review! I'm glad reviews like this are available - it's been hard to see a review for a specific niche. I'm a graphic designer and spend most of my days at home so I don't really need a laptop (my work already provided me with one - I'm looking for a personal PC). Initially I wanted the cute colored iMacs but I feel like this will be much more powerful for the work that I do 💚
I saw that some designers are having some trouble with the Wifi connectivity though, what are your thoughts on that?
Sometimes it'll drop my internet connection and it requires a restart. It's only happened twice so not enough to bother my workflow.
Thanks for the feedback 🤝
I got this M2 Pro Mac Mini back August 2023. So just a month ago. It's super fast, no problems ever. I think Mac does good things as well such as Time Machine backs up better to an external hard drive better than any software I have ever used on Windows PCs. Also there is nothing easier to use than iMovie and photo booth. I bought the basic M2 Pro Ma Mini with the 16 cores CPU, 19 GPU cores, 16GB ram, and 512GB SSD. It's amazing, it's fast, it has no problems ever. Never any slow downs either.
Nice!
Thanks for sharing your experience 🤝
Heyy good to know! Mine will be here in a few days! Wanted to know if it is enough for video editing and designing
Thx for the info about the refurbished option - indeed good one!
No problem 👍
I am rocking the same specification m2 pro mini and it’s an absolute beast
It’s a great machine 👍
Good review! I just ordered one after my 2013 imac died on me. I made the same choices you made, and now i’m confident i made the correct choice 😅
Ready for the next 10 years! Lol
You'll love it 👍
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for clarifying about the ram. I have a 2019 intel MacBook Pro 13” with 16gb of ram and 256gb of ssd thag does about 500 read and write. I feel like my boost is going to be in a whole other universe LOL
It'll be a definite upgrade 👍
Very nice. Your set up is well ahead of mine, I very much run into a serious data storage bottle neck and 1TB is barley cutting it for me.
It's always a work in progress 😀
Thanks for watching.
@@TomasVillegas A 2 TB nvme is pretty cheap right now, and a Thunderbolt enclosure is very affordable. No lag, and no issues so far running apps and libraries and assets from the Thunderbolt port. Saves a chunk.
Do you use the external USB-C m.2 SSD as a fixed 24/7 connected drive for work/archive? Is it reliable? Does it throttle or lag under stress/heat? Does it stay connected without random disconnects? Thank you.
Yes it stays connected 24/7/365. No crazy heat and I've seen no lag or throttling. 👍
Using a 12 core 32g 1tb m2 mini pro for 2 months , used only for development, depending on work flow it can be a issue because of heat, im running Android studio multiple emulators, and debugging hardware, mostly vast arrays of particles, the mini sits at over 200F for hours when profiling. Should have bought a base studio , maybe a little slower but at least its not a toaster., guess it all comes down to what you use it for, for just writing code compiling etc it runs cool, no issues, works great. but if you stress it, it heats up fast and even the fan ramping up to 5k rpm does not seem to help that much . I use TG pro monitoring temps all the time
Thanks for sharing your experience 🤝
I don’t know much about computers at all.
I work from home (medical coding) and I do online college, do you think this would be a good pick for me?
The M2 Pro might be bit of overkill, you could easily use the M2 for what you're describing 👍
To me th sweet spot of m2 pro mini is with 1 TB ssd, just upgrading ssd gives almost 2 times the speed of the default configuration. And the ssd is pretty quick
Agreed 👍
So wait. Apple put a single chip SSD for the 512gb? I thought only the base Mini with 256gb had a single. This one too?
Correct.
@@TomasVillegas Just saw Lukes video on the inside of the MM Pro M2 and it’s seems to be a single, but it’s faster than the 256gb with around 3k read & write speeds which is still pretty fast. This is fast enough for what I am doing. Also that;s the same single chip and speed of the Mac Studio M2 with 512gb.
Correct, but the Pro series the effect is around 5% performance reduction. Not noticeable like the base.
Does it work fine with an 8k tv 60 hz, HDR???
The HDMI 2.1 on it is capable of handling that, yes.
@@TomasVillegas what about HDR?? does it work fine with 8k 60 Hz?
Best bang for your buck?! I strongly disagree with the Minisforum UM790, Beelink GTR7, Intel NUC 13 Pro, and Geekom IT13 (programming, finance, and general web browsing only). The M2 Pro Mac Mini starts at $1,299 or nearly $1300. Also, it is limits what monitors to use due to Apple's retina standard. QHD or 5k meet the retina standard to optimize the display resolution. Most people with Apple consumers do not want to go down to a QHD display and 5k is very expensive ($950+).
With the Minisforum UM790 and its Radeon 780M iGPU, you can run Davinci Code for video editing with no problem. This includes 10-minute 4K video rendering. Geekom IT13 has blazing speed for programmers with its i9 H series CPU. All under $1k without limits on what monitors to use.
Naw bro. My review based on my experience.
Thanks for the comment tho. 👍
Don't buy any 8gb ram Apple product.
The operating system takes up more than 8gb and you're going to be doing a lot of memory swapping, and beach ball waiting.
I replaced my M1 Mac Mini with the M2 Pro Mac Mini and no more beach balls.
"The operating system takes up more than 8gb " - false. Typical MacOS RAM while running is about 1GB.
could buy just m2 mini. it do all same things seconds slower OR M3 coming wink wink. before think i say M4 coming. your apple never latest fastest how much you pay from it
