My experience is traveling with little ones is much easier than when the get a little older. We took our daughter on her first back pack trip when she was 6 weeks old in 1975. Back then the baby carers were much more limited than today. She was in a simple Gerry sling. She slept as long as I was hiking and woke when I stopped. Great trip and even better memories now. Enjoy your new crew member she will grow up so fast.
I must admit I was a little worried when I read the video title, I thought something had gone really wrong but was glad to see it was just the marina been closed. Good on you guys taking RAN11 out despite the 25mph wind and steep chop on the sea, a lot of people would not try until the weather was just perfect but you and RAN11 had no problem with it. I still cant get over the condition of the boat for its age, a beautiful looking yacht and everything about her just looks high quality. A warning though guys in about 3 or 4 years you know who will be Rans,s captain, she will make sure you are ship shape..lol.
New Subscriber. Sailing is natural for Vera. it reminds her of the previous 9 month voyage she has taken. I luv your channel and am going back to catch up on your lives. thank you for working so hard on your videos.
At least you had a nice sail and got to enjoy the fireworks. Beautiful light show. Best of luck next time. Looking forward to more sailing with your daughter. She is so cute and you two make wonderful parents.
Hey Ran, Flakfortet is a special place, specially during the summer season. I can see that their homepage tells that there is closed for the season until 1 April, maybe is has been updated after your (almost) visit. Take care and grattis/congratulation with your daughter and on the new boat, that both seems very special. I hope to see you on the water one day. Brian,
Very satisfying to see Johan so excited setting out to sea for the first time. Terrific family shots and the boat looks so beautiful! I am very happy for all of you. Please sail to Albuquerque on one of your voyages!
You mentioned: Vera was sleeping so well. I thought: Other parents buy an expensive rocking cradle for the baby. Second thought: Oh - they did - an even much more expensive 😍😉
Pizza is never a wrong choice, New Years' or otherwise. It may not be the RIGHT choice, but it's never wrong. :D Glad the sail went well, even if the harbor was closed.
Whew ! I was worried something bad happened. Turning back is always an option. Enjoy your new boat, she's lovely and in such amazing condition. I'm glad your careful boat hunting paid off.
Gotta love that glass windshield. By the way; it is said in maritime superstition that it is bad luck to name a boat as a II or III, i.e. RAN II. I have owned two Cape Dory sailboats and both were named Indigo. If you like the name, just reuse it. Cheers. Love your VLOG. Saw you anchored in Aquatic park and would have liked to meet you. Maybe next time.
Happy New Year. Vera doesn’t even notice the bouncing and rough seas. Thats life as usual for her since before she was born. Great boat for the 3 of you.
Beautiful child, and congrats on the new boat! Suggestion, from my camping days: paraffin or candle wax on your metal zippers. Slicker, never clogs, might reduce corrosion.
Every time I watch videos with Ran II it looks like the boat has just had a stem to stern refit. From watching other sailing videos, I’ve noticed that the great Volvo engines seem to have a weakness. The electronic modules seem to fail suddenly so I’d carry several backups for everything, because when they fail the engine quits and you can’t fix it. 😎
I have a five month old granddaughter. I had my daughter Teah at 25 and my daughter has just had her daughter Emma, at 21. I’m still young and you think you’ll remember everything but you don’t. You forget the things that you think are unforgettable like the date of the first teeth coming through or falling out so I would suggest to record everything as we are blessed with mobiles now that can do it all for us. Date stamps are so important. Congratulations on your first sail as a family, your lives will be so much richer with innocence and wonder again and so much love you’ll think that you’ll burst at times. Falling in love with our babies is a blessing we are lucky and fortunate to have in our lives. Best wishes. 🎐🎐🎐
What a great way to celebrate the New Year. Pity the marina was closed, but the round trip went well and the boat handled really well. 👍 Sounds like those bow thrusters are a hit👌
In Newfoundland, on New Years Day, we prepare and eat: cooked turkey with dressing, boiled salt beef, rutabaga, carrot, potato, and cabbage; with a side of cranberry sauce. There are left overs for a few days for turkey soup and/ or sandwiches and hash (fried vegetables
Awww bummer that you could not dock on the island, but the trip out was a good experience/shake down for you and the boat. Wonderful to see little Vera did well also, you're all very lucky to have the love of sailing. Happy New Year/Felize Ano Nuevo, with fireworks in the bay with family!!
🇨🇦here in Canada pizza is not a tradition on New Years day but it sure sounds like a great idea that’s for sure! Nice to see that your new crew has done well on her first sail ( outside of Momy’s belly pf course) wish you the best in the new year!
Congratulations on your first sail with The new crew and the new boat. It seems there was more excitement in Malmo than the island you were going to so maybe you were better off. You didn’t seem too disappointed. Happy New Year and good luck and good health throughout the year!
Happy New Year to you three! The new boat seems much more heavy and stiff, and handled those choppy seas beautifully. Really a great vessel, I'm envious (but more happy for you). Scott
Definitely see the size difference between RAN I and the new boat. When you shoot down the companionway it's really obvious and when you see the size of galley and saloon it's very noticeable too. Looks VERY comfortable!
I've been a tugboat captain for 25+ years, and I enjoy watching your videos. I hope to meet you someday, either passing on the sea or at an anchorage or port somewhere.
Please tell me there was plenty of Swedish swearing when you first saw that chain and sign across the marina at Flakfort! Loved the feel of this episode, it all felt just right somehow.
She says: "I'm bored, let's do something today." He says: "Well, we could float our new home out on the ocean through big waves and brisk wind." She says: "OK!" Vera says: "Do what you want, I just want to sleep and eat."
Well, you managed to turn a bad day into a great video. Just think of what you would have missed by spending New Year's Eve on that abandoned little island in the middle of no where! As you said, you made the right decision. Happy New Year!! Ron
"What a luxury to have a brand new engine!" Amen to that! Of course, Johan, this means you can cuddle up with Vera in the salon some more without so many "boat projects." That video was precious...and so fleeting a time before Vera will be walking on her sea legs. And the Flakfort is still defended after all these years. Hmmm. Happy New Year, fair winds and following seas, RAN II! S/V Windwalker
Another great episode, still catching up with many episodes from past months while you still had RAN 1 so looking forward to that..your videos seem to really be more structured, thought out, and such a high level of professional production by you both. As good as watching some TV productions so well done. Nice sea trial at least to get your new sailboat out with the baby on board and seems like both the new boat and new baby can handle some fairly rough sea state. Great episode!
Great times going on a first sail, that had to feel awesome. Nice way to end the eventful year. Did I hear a lot of "flapping" while you were motoring or was that my imagination? Enjoyed the short trip.
Great episode...most enjoyable. Pizza on New Year's Day...yum. Perhaps we may start that Swedish tradition in Australia, because we do love our pizza's here. Terrific idea using the car seat as a boat seat...clever👍 RAN ll does look super cosy 😁 Looking forward, as always, to the next episode.
In Sweden and Denmark you will find a pizza restaurant and/or take-away on every other corner...most common take-away side by side to burgers...our traditional foods don’t do really well as take-away....
RAN II handled her bow into the waves like a beast!! Then you had a chance to run the sails up on the way home. Then fireworks for the end of the day. Not a bad day even with the unexpected hiccup. As for New Years day food . . . its Pork and sauerkraut for my family in central Pennsylvania
Looked like a great run for the boat and new crew. Best if luck in the coming year. Until our adventures cross, fair winds and full sails. Jack and Billie
Happy New Year! Great first outing on RAN 2. Traditional New Years lunch in the South (USA) is ham, black eye peas, turnip greens and cornbread. There are some variations but these are the basic items. www.southernliving.com/food/holidays-occasions/new-years-recipes-traditions
We love your adventure and new family! Will you be coming back to where you left off with Ran 1? We met you two in San Diego for just a few moments and we were so looking forward to your adventures in Mexico and especially the Sea of Cortez. What's the plan? Take care and be safe, Steve and Mary in San Diego.
Have sailed then motored through exactly that type of sea. Boat length and wave set seemed perfectly proportioned to maximise discomfort. Very tiring - slam, slam, slam all day. Lesson of the day was don’t plan your trip back so close to catching an international flight!
WHAT? NO CABBAGE AND BLACK EYED PEAS ON NEW YEARS! No money and good luck for you in the upcoming year! Now, where did I put that number for Pizza Hut delivery.......
Vera was the star of the adventure - a born sailor!
Even though I don’t speak the language, I liked when you spoke Swedish and had subtitles. It was nice to hear your natural cadence in your language.
MK500 I liked it too:)
I must admit I was a little worried when I read the video title, I thought something had gone really wrong but was glad to see it was just the marina been closed. What a good boat baby! And Pizza on New Years! yay!
At least you had a nice sail and got to enjoy the fireworks. Beautiful light show. Best of luck next time. Looking forward to more sailing with your daughter. She is so cute and you two make wonderful parents.
TGIF! It's Ran Friday!
Yay! :)

Yes, we love Flakfortet so we will be back for sure. 😊
Very satisfying to see Johan so excited setting out to sea for the first time. Terrific family shots and the boat looks so beautiful! I am very happy for all of you. Please sail to Albuquerque on one of your voyages!
Diane Swift I think we’ll have to dredge the whole Rio Grande given the depth of the keel!
Vera is a trooper just like her Mom and Dad! All the very best to you three in the new year! Lots of hugs and kisses from Canada :)
so so cool. simply a beautiful family.
I'm glad it was nothing mechanically wrong and no injuries.
You mentioned: Vera was sleeping so well.
I thought: Other parents buy an expensive rocking cradle for the baby.
Second thought: Oh - they did - an even much more expensive 😍😉
Congratulations on new addition, and new adventures!! Video and commentary are nothing short of supreme.Love to you all
Good 1st short trial with the new boat.
Pizza is never a wrong choice, New Years' or otherwise. It may not be the RIGHT choice, but it's never wrong. :D Glad the sail went well, even if the harbor was closed.

Happy New Year. Vera doesn’t even notice the bouncing and rough seas. Thats life as usual for her since before she was born. Great boat for the 3 of you.
She's been a sailor since before she was born. It is in her blood.
Vera was born with her sea legs! A mermaid would probably get seasick before she does. :-)
Yeah that's so awesome. She's a lucky girl!
Very nice 1st sail. Well, at least that boat is super seaworthy indeed.. and y’all seen fireworks 🧨 Thnx from US
nice to see you out for a day sail on your new boat ,and many happy days of sailing in the new year, cheers from Vancouver Canada
so very fond of you guys 😘
Wishing your family all the best for 2020. Look forward to following your future endeavours!
🙏👍💙❤so cool seeing you leave port for the first time!
Lol, Vera so beautiful and enjoying the cruise😴😴🤗
you guys are so genuine great ep.
Yup, at least you are out sailing! Looking great guys!!!
In Pennsylvania, USA, from our German heritage we have pork and sauerkraut for new years day, good crock pot meal.
Good to see you got some sailing time in. Can't wait to see your new adventures!

Beautiful boat! Really cozy and plenty of space! Can't wait for all the adventures.
I like the episode wish you safe trips

Beautiful family and beautiful boat. This new decade is going to be very good to you.
Happy New Year and Best Wishes for you and your family.🎉🎊🍾🇨🇦
Great tradition
Awesomeness for this episode. Baby is so cute. Thank you for sharing.
Someone has a lovely home and I liked the tree.
Malin!! Such a big wheel. How can you see?
I am so happy for you. Many good sailing days ahead.
Many more outings ahead
Love your videos and at least you well documented several firsts today! How exciting.
I've been a tugboat captain for 25+ years, and I enjoy watching your videos. I hope to meet you someday, either passing on the sea or at an anchorage or port somewhere.
Pleased to see it wasn’t boat problems that made you turn back
Glad to see everything worked out all right.
awesome video guys! happy new year and have a safe passage on the new boat! Suggest you buy a baby lifejacket for the little one.
Happy New Year Ran II crew!
Happy New Year from Miami, Florida.
Happy New Year and fair winds lovely people!
It was such a bad day.....looks like you enjoyed getting out on the water anyhow. Looks like your very comfortable with the new boat.
You guys do fantastic videos, luv your channel!
Pizza with a big 2ltrs Coke. Happy New Year !
Please tell me there was plenty of Swedish swearing when you first saw that chain and sign across the marina at Flakfort!
Loved the feel of this episode, it all felt just right somehow.
Haha :)
Happy New Year! 2020 will bring many firsts for your new family. Have a wonderful time x
in the U S it is tradition to eat Pork, Cabbage, and Blackeye peas on new years day
Happy New Year!
Nice way to spend New Years and prelude to a new chapter in your sailing adventures with three up. Fair winds. Andy UK
Well...a dissapointment, but there will be another day..nice mellow maiden voyage... -Rebecca on SV Brick House
at least you guys and the boat are ok. i was afraid by the title that something went awry, other than your plans. happy new year!
She says: "I'm bored, let's do something today."
He says: "Well, we could float our new home out on the ocean through big waves and brisk wind."
She says: "OK!"
Vera says: "Do what you want, I just want to sleep and eat."
Haha, just like that! ;)
Well, you managed to turn a bad day into a great video. Just think of what you would have missed by spending New Year's Eve on that abandoned little island in the middle of no where! As you said, you made the right decision. Happy New Year!!

Actually ... smack bang in the middle of Copenhagen. The fireworks display over CPH would have been as wonderful, but without the inebriated youth.

Happy New year and best wishers to you all.🦅🙈🙉🙊
The covered cockpit looks amazing especially in those waves. Happy New Year to you all. Marlin looks tiny behind the wheel. Lol
Congratulations on starting the new year off right. With all of us coming along.
Best wishes. Is this Viking family now going to round the world the "real" way ? You have to bring Vera around both Cape's now.
Patagonia is calling on our attention!

Awesome first sail, would love to see that island. Motor sounds good. What and when do the upgrades begin.
You guys have an idyllic life. I’m happy for y’all
Closed harbour, that should be a ‘notice to seamen’ some how.
Nevertheless you had a good sea trial. A super cozy ship it is.. Well done 👍🏻
Great times going on a first sail, that had to feel awesome. Nice way to end the eventful year. Did I hear a lot of "flapping" while you were motoring or was that my imagination? Enjoyed the short trip.
It felt really good! :) That was from a loose halyard slamming against the mast :)
Best Wishes to the 3 of you for the New Year of sailing, must get on and do some jobs on my little boat. 😀
Sorry it didn’t go as planned, but what a way to see how you like her in a stiff sea. Such a great boat!
Looks like a perfect way to end 19 and start 20. A new 440, a new baby, dinner and a movie AND FIREWORKS!! I'D take that any day!! Where next??
Shame about the closed harbor, but at least you got some time on the boat! But wait, eating pizza with a knife and fork? Unacceptable! lol
Pizza as a New Years tradition? That's so cool.
It's called "bakispizza" or "hangover pizza". But I guess you don't have to be hungover to partake in the tradition ;)
but pizza is italian, so... ehh why in sweden 🤷🏼♂️
In Sweden and Denmark you will find a pizza restaurant and/or take-away on every other corner...most common take-away side by side to burgers...our traditional foods don’t do really well as take-away....
@@Hellwinofficial the day after midsummer's eve and new year's eve is the day when pizza is the best thing in the world, holy moly it's good!
Happy New Year!! MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY.... it coulda been, oh well.
Grandma has a tight grip on Vera. You might wind up with another crew member. Safe travel you three.
RAN II handled her bow into the waves like a beast!! Then you had a chance to run the sails up on the way home. Then fireworks for the end of the day. Not a bad day even with the unexpected hiccup.

That's such a beautiful boat.
Non-sailors will never know the terror of leaving the dock and returning to the dock the first couple of times on a new boat.
Yip, couldn't agree more, especially if it's your own precious boat
Especially arriving back at the dock after sunset! 😬
Did that very thing this New Years. A bit of a pucker moment. Glad I'm not alone.
So true........it’s so terrifying experience.
Terror yes, but also extreme excitement!
Have sailed then motored through exactly that type of sea. Boat length and wave set seemed perfectly proportioned to maximise discomfort. Very tiring - slam, slam, slam all day. Lesson of the day was don’t plan your trip back so close to catching an international flight!
