      Some countries have been recycling or even reusing plastic for decades. Sure, doing it from your home seems innovative, but I don't see it being used on a larger scale or by many people, and access to 3D printing. People don't want home decoration items of hard plastic exclusively. When you wanna throw away the item another problem arises, do you re cycle the plastic within the printer again and again? It will eventually turn a brown-ish black, and you won't be able to have it in all sorts of nice colors, unless you paint the outside of it after printing. It seems more sustainable to me to not just buy plastic, and for companies to change their packaging.

    Me: cuts the bottle in half and I have a pot for a plant

    • @ChristopherJones16
      @ChristopherJones16 Год назад +56

      Thats what I use for my seedlings. I actually cut it right below the neck and use that area for the soil. The other half I fill with water and put the soil half on top of that.. the neck is submerged into the water and wicks the water into the soil as it needs it. The cost of the water bottle plus the cost of the electricity to make his pots, and the cost of time needed to make his pots makes printing such an item not a good choice. Plant pots are cheap. I think most things we print with 3d printers are cheaper to buy in the store. 3D printers are only advantageous when you print something you cant buy in a store which usually means its part of an invention you came up with, and you need very specific parts to engineer it that cant be found in your part of the world or can be found but are expensive to be manufactured. TLDR; Printing common items with a printer isnt worth the time and money.

      Not creating waste in the first place is better than recycling. The 3D printing hobbyist community is an unmitigated environmental catastrophe. If there was a meter on plastic waste, it got absolutely pegged into the red when 3D printing got big.

    • @billnoname8093

      actually 3d filaments are made from plant material not plastic (with binding agents and basically corn), I do 3d print and I would not do this (recycled plastic) in my house, it's toxic where as 3d printings isn't, depending on what you are using. and as far as the comment below saying this is a environmental disaster, that is not true either, the amount of things I have fixed that are not going into the dump is by far out weighing the filament I use by a lot, just by fixing the shop vac with a few ounces of filament in comparison to throwing the whole thing out. Also if you want to stop the environmental disaster then stop the consumer culture. Also by saying this I'm not saying plastic is good. Also more and more environmentally safe materials are coming out.

    • @n07ju57hum4n
      @n07ju57hum4n 9 месяцев назад +2

      The only printing material that is made with plant products are the ones that are sold with that feature advertised, the plastic in this video and any plastic that contains something consumed is made of high density polyethylene which is non-toxic, bpa free and approved by the FDA it's proven that it's molecular structure is more tightly packed than the other food grade plastics I would suggest doing more research before making a statement that spreads misinformation about plastic at least specifically the plastic in this video
