Depends on how important the racket is to your playing ability. For most top end Yonex rackets, we would probably say no you don't need to as realistically, it's not going to make you a better player 😊. The 88D Pro, in our opinion, is a better racket than the 88D for sure but I'd definitely try the 88D Pro first before committing if I was you.
Hey Henry and Jeff, I need some help with 88D Pro. I was excited after watching your review and recently bought a 4U with Exbolt 65 at 27lbs. However after playing a couple of sessions, I still struggle to really put the power down and when I smash, the shuttle flies quite flat rather than a sharp angle, I feel like maybe I missed time a lot by hitting the upper part of the racquet? But I have been using my old ArcSaber Z Slash and heavy smash wasn't a problem at all. It's 3U and I feel like even more head heavy than the 88D Pro. Any advice? Thanks!
Adjust for the different swing speeds. Make sure you're taking it as high as possible. It might be different because you don't realise your swing is different at the moment. Good luck!
The racket we reviewed is a 4U although personally, we both prefer 3U rackets. the 88D Pro on average at the 3U mark is 88g. I've felt the racket (but haven't played with it yet) and it definitely feels significantly heavier than the 3U. Is it too heavy? Well, it depends on you haha. I'd suggest getting your hands on one and deciding for yourself :)
@@douglasdc104 Hi Douglas, I believe you have it the other way around. 3U is around 88g where as 2U is heavier at around 90g or more. The higher you go in, i.e. 4U, 5U - the lighter the racket is
@@douglasdc104 good question. I would probably add about 10 grams on the weight of the racket. So for a 3U racket being 87g, it'd probably be around 97g strung and with a grip
@@rizky7824 I have both. 3U for me always has great feel vs 4U. However, the 3U may be a bit slow for doubles. I will say you certainly can get away with a 3U 88S Pro for doubles and the added weight gives the necessary power boost. The 88D Pro 3U and 4U are fun smashing rackets but my go-to is the 88S Pro in 3U. I wholeheartedly agree that the 88D Pro is better than the 88D original.
Hi Jeff, for us it's noticeable and we're guessing it's because of the volume cut resin. I would test the 88D Pro if you have the 88D just so you can tell for yourself if you're considering an upgrade
Hi Moko, we don't string the rackets ourselves so unfortunately can't answer that one for you! I will check with the badminton store and get back to you :)

Everyone's situation is different. The 88D Pro in our opinion is significantly better but it's not going to make you a better player so please don't purchase the racket thinking that it'll do that 😊 if you have the 88D already, I'd have a hit with the 88D pro before committing to purchase. If you have plenty of money to spend then sure, go ahead cause it's a great racket
Hey Ron, a bit tricky to comment on durability here because we haven’t had any experience with how long it will last (as it is so new!). But in general, ruling out any big racket clashes or hitting the ground, 28lbs shouldn’t be an issue in our experience with other rackets. I usually string my rackets at 30-32 lbs. hope that helps, although difficult to give you any concrete information!
@@Volantbadminton Thanks, I bought it yesterday... its very powerful i normally played with 3u heavyhead but change to this astrox is no regret at all... it feels like 3u racket when smashing and of coz for control, its better than other 3u heavyhead racket.. Very powerful combination..
Hey :) I currently have the z force 2 lin Dan edition and it's a very stiff, head heavy racket but quite manageable and really produces great power for smashes. Do you think the 88d pro would be a good upgrade from the z force 2? Cause I feel that the swinging of z force 2 takes some effort to do when in doubles. But not really a problem during single plays. I also have in mind to pick some lighter rackets, for better maneuverability that can produce some power yet great in control like the NF800 3u version, but which racket out of the 2 would you suggest me switching considering I'm currently using the Lin Dan z force 2? I'll be very glad to hear your opinion about this :)
Two very different rackets that you're comparing Jhudiel. I think you should make your decision based on a) what rackets you prefer (head light, even-balance, head-heavy) and b) after trying them if possible. 88D Pro, in our opinion, would be a good upgrade from the Z force II, it'll be more forgiving and easier for you to generate power given what you've mentioned. All the best!
It's a great racket, but probably not for a beginner who is wear on technique and power. It's probably more of an intermediate-advanced racket. That's not to say that a beginner can't use it - just that a different racket might be more suited for a beginner, such as a racket with a lighter head. Something even balanced is a good all-round racket so feel free to check out our Rogue S1 - 4U version! Here's the link for ease :) www.volantwear.com/pages/rogue-s1-racquet
About the same for the 4U 88D Pro although the feeling is very different between the two. I would think that the 3U 88D Pro would be more powerful than the 900C but we can't confirm that 😊
Both great rackets, tough call. We'd suggest trying them out yourself! Personally, I would say the 88D Pro marginally but that's probably because I prefer even balance rackets (and the 88D Pro has the rotational generator system).
Hello I am a singles player who has a strong smash and rely on my pushes to deep court and smash to win points. I think I told you recently that I got an Astrox 77 4u version, but the main problem with it is that its too slow when it comes to quick reflexive drives and that is my usual weakness. Now I want to get a racket that will help meretain my good attack, good sweetspot and forgiveness, and also is not an absolute sledgehammer like the 99 or Z force 2. My main verdicts are (in order): Astrox 88d pro, Astrox100 zz, Astrox 88spro All 4ug5 1) Astrox 88d pro: As it has a larger sweetspot and is not extra stiff like the OG 88d and has lumsome amount of power and is also very quick compared to the OG88 or OG99. People also say it is faster than the 100zz. 2)Astrox 100zz: It has a really nice lovely design and ik its not relevant to buy a racket on this basis. Good power and control ig? 3) 88spro: Less head heavier than the dpro but I think will lack power than the dpro. Please suggest which of the above you think will suit me the best. Thanks
You sure do your homework. And you know what you want to do I guess. You know your style of play and you know the rackets specs. Strongly suggest you use it real time in 1 or 2 game. Buy based on specs won’t be enough without proper strings and tension you desired. I own both 100zz and 88D pro. If you are single player with hard smash and looking fast frame. The 100zz is the best choice IMO. As a double player with hard smash too, i found 88d pro is lacking power for me in 4U.
@@Volantbadminton Thanks. Lol your reply was 3 months late ;) Already bought the 88dp, just got it today Gave it fro stringing but love it, feels much better than my 77
Hi guys, I am Rakesh from india. I seen all your reviews, it's so professional and so unique. The way you both are explaining about the merits and demerits of the rackets are so useful for us to choose the perfect racket. I need your suggestions. Presently I am using two rackets - kawasaki assassin 6720 & yonex muscle power 29 lite. In the said rackets I can't able to generate power smash as well as placement accuracy. Moreover, my wrist, forearm & shoulder get strained like anything on every match. So I decide to change the racket. Now, all I need is your guidance & suggestions. Because most of the time I play from back court. Which model racket is perfect for me to perform better. 1. Astrox 77 2. Astrox 88D pro 3. Astrox 99 4. Astrox 100zz 5. Nanoflare 800 Please don't care about the Aesthetics. Consider the performance of the racket. Also, in india Volant rackets are not available for sale. I know I am explaining too much. Sorry for the inconvenience. Kindly guide me which is perfect.
Hi Rakesh, Thanks for your feedback - and just remember that everyone's opinions are different :) I haven't used the Kawasaki racket or the MP 29 Lite so I can't really comment on them. If you play more in the rear court, I'd choose the 88D Pro out of the list that you've written. Next after that, I'd be thinking either the 100ZZ or 77. The 99 is also good but it feels a bit to stiff for my liking. Hope that helps!
Personally, I think the 88D Pro is a better racket for sure. But everyone's circumstances are different. If you have plenty of $$$$ to play with then I'd definitely consider it. But don't just take our word for it, see if you can have a hit with it first!
Thanks for lovely review but I have a question, if my play style is likely all-rounder player. Between Astrox 88s pro and 88D pro, which is better for intermediate player?
These are both geared towards attacking players. The 88S pro is probably more of an all-rounder compared to the 88D pro but I would argue that the 88D pro is a better racket!
@@miguelv2985 Hey Miguel, because the rotational generator system enhancement is significant in this racket, the momentum generation is much better. For that reason, we think that it's easier to swing
We are of the opinion that the 88D Pro is a better racket so hard for us to recommend the 88S pro to be honest! The 100ZZ is a good racket, are you sure you need to change the racket?
I use my100zz on easy games where I can smash alot, it too slow or I'm too weak and I always miss the sweet spot. When I'm try harding I use my astrox 5fx for now and I'm looking to add the 88d or 88s to my arsenal especially for doubles
@@sammerino9259 Perhaps the 100ZZ is a bit too stiff for you and less forgiving? I'd give them both a try and see what you like if you have a friend who's getting one!
If you mostly play on the front court, I Highly Recommend the 88S Pro. Also it does not lack power at the back court and still really strong on the back court. However, It is not as Smash powerful as the 88D Pro but still very powerful! In my Opinion, The 88S is also Faster in speed which helps a lot on front court so yeah. 88S Pro it is.
I'd suggest trying both of these rackets out if you have the opportunity. Jeff and I have a clear favourite between the two rackets overall, which you'll note in our reviews 😊 I agree with Hyo Rim in saying that the 88S Pro is faster at the front court but I'll also offer a different point of view that the 88D Pro is not exactly slow and you can keep up with fast exchanges too (talking about the 4U here) if you're inherently a fast player. We felt that the 88D Pro provided higher shot quality and that the 88S Pro was almost like an incomplete racket. That being said, this is our opinion only and it's always best to decide for yourself if you have the opportunity. All the best!
From what I know victor thruster ryuga is super stiff and hard to use, however if u are strong enough u might get more power, if not then go with 88d pro, u get the power and it's easier to use
Tricky one! They’re a bit different in how we think they produce power. The 99 overall feels much heavier, stiffer and has a harder feeling. It also feels very head heavy (which it is!). Because of this, the amount of power you can get is... a lot! If we were to make up a term here, we’d call it “brute power”. On the other hand, the 88D Pro is still very powerful but has a more flexible/elastic feel to it. It doesn’t feel as heavy overall and when you swing it, it doesn’t feel as head heavy either (maybe due to the rotational generator system). So if we were to term the kind of power you get from it, in comparison to “brute power”, it feels more like “elastic power” because there more “whip” of the racket rather than just swinging a heavy axe. So in conclusion, 99 probably has more power overall. But the 88D Pro has a different kind of power and by all means, is definitely still very powerful. Do you like stiff or more flexible rackets? Hard feeling or soft feeling? I think these things will determine which is better for you. Also feel free to check out the Volant Rogue S1 😉
@@Volantbadminton Thank you so much for the reply! For most top end Yonex rackets, we would probably say no you don't need to as realistically, it's not going to make you a better player 😊. The 88D Pro, in our opinion, is a better racket than the 88D for sure but I'd definitely try the 88D Pro first before committing if I was you.
@@Volantbadminton well said! 👍🏻
Where u buy it?
Good luck!
Hi @el8888 I’m currently still using an ArcSaber Z Slash as well and am looking to upgrade to the 88D Pro. How are you finding it 9 months later?
Especially on power and speed with the 4U version :))
If i used zforce2 and want to change which one will fit the most between 88dpro and 100zz?
Do you use 4ug5? How about 3u?Is too heavy? More than 90gram right...
@@Volantbadminton 3u is 90 gram right? not 88gram..mostly like 2u
@@douglasdc104 Hi Douglas, I believe you have it the other way around. 3U is around 88g where as 2U is heavier at around 90g or more. The higher you go in, i.e. 4U, 5U - the lighter the racket is
the real weight 3ug5 after string&grip add on...how much gram? thanks for your response
@@douglasdc104 good question. I would probably add about 10 grams on the weight of the racket. So for a 3U racket being 87g, it'd probably be around 97g strung and with a grip

@@rizky7824 We haven't tested the 3U so can't comment unfortunately!

Definitely a close call on this one! I'd say that if you're more attacking or need more power in your overheads, then 88D Pro. If you're a bit more of a rally player and like lighter rackets, then the 100ZZ.

Everyone's situation is different. The 88D Pro in our opinion is significantly better but it's not going to make you a better player so please don't purchase the racket thinking that it'll do that 😊 if you have the 88D already, I'd have a hit with the 88D pro before committing to purchase. Hi.. i plan to purchase 4u 88d pro..But i wonder on its durability since max lbs is 28... im a hard hitter btw...thanks in advance

88D Pro in our opinion
is the 88d pro 4u suitable for teenagers
It may be a little bit stiff, but if it's the 4U version, it still could be ok!
Hey :)
I currently have the z force 2 lin Dan edition and it's a very stiff, head heavy racket but quite manageable and really produces great power for smashes.
@@VolantbadmintonThank you for your sentiment ^_^!
Is this racket friendly for complete begginner who is weak on technique and power?
It's a great racket, but probably not for a beginner who is wear on technique and power. It's probably more of an intermediate-advanced racket. That's not to say that a beginner can't use it - just that a different racket might be more suited for a beginner, such as a racket with a lighter head. Something even balanced is a good all-round racket so feel free to check out our Rogue S1 - 4U version!

Hello
I am a singles player who has a strong smash and rely on my pushes to deep court and smash to win points.
My main verdicts are (in order): Astrox 88d pro, Astrox100 zz, Astrox 88spro
All 4ug5
1) Astrox 88d pro: As it has a larger sweetspot and is not extra stiff like the OG 88d and has lumsome amount of power and is also very quick compared to the OG88 or OG99.

1. Astrox 77
2. Astrox 88D pro
3. Astrox 99
4. Astrox 100zz
5. Nanoflare 800

I know I am explaining too much. Sorry for the inconvenience. Kindly guide me which is perfect.
Hi Rakesh,
Thanks for your feedback - and just remember that everyone's opinions are different :)
I haven't used the Kawasaki racket or the MP 29 Lite so I can't really comment on them. If you play more in the rear court, I'd choose the 88D Pro out of the list that you've written. Next after that, I'd be thinking either the 100ZZ or 77. The 99 is also good but it feels a bit to stiff for my liking. Hope that helps!

Which has more power the astrox 99 or the 88D Pro?
