  • Title says it all, from painting steel to framing the last bit of floor this episode has it all including some time with the main floor plan and front elevation. Most of this was shot at the tail end of the cold snap when I could finally get back into and out of the neighborhood.
    Thanks to all for showing up or showing back up, your support is very much appreciated.

      So true, It seems silly sometimes what I use it for but what the heck? if it's set up it's never more than 30 seconds from where I need it. It truly is a sky hook. Runs off of a 20amp 220v plug on the power pole, its all remote control and it only pulls 9amps when you are setting it up which is pretty much only half of what a skilsaw uses at full bog.

      @@ShredPile can't say I've ever seen one in our area. Went to Germany for a few weeks and you couldn't throw a empty beer can without hitting one. Vowed that when I build another house that would be the first thing I bought. Why didn't you just trailer it to the job site. Looks to be road worthy. Looks like a lot of aggravation to put it on a trailer

    • @ShredPile
      @ShredPile  3 месяца назад

      Yeah they are totally all over Western Europe and they have them super dialed now tech wise. Those axles are definitely not road worthy. It's pretty top heavy and narrow too I have plans to build a road dolly for it with a bolt on hitch for the long end. The other problem with moving it is that the front dolly swivels so it's like moving a set of doubles. I typically have a buddy move it on a heavy rollback but the counter weight and turret need to be at the headache rack end of the truck or the axles don't fit on the deck. I wouldn't of been able to land it on the pad backwards with that truck so tilt deck it was. Total PITA but what do you do? I have a F-550 with a knuckleboom on it that would be the perfect crane tender rig that would not only tow it but it could haul and load the counterweights too which could be handy on a job without one of the pettibones. That truck needs a little engine work though.....@@jimmystuckey1412

    Never seen a mobile tower crane that small before. It's pretty darn cool. And very useful to lift those steel beams. Curious what the max weight capacity for it is. That's some pretty impressive counterweights added.

    • @ShredPile
      @ShredPile  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks, It's amazing what it can do but it's capacity is relatively small. Max lift is 1000kg or 2200# which it will take to a 37' radius and then it tapers off to 1350# max lift at 18m at a 59' radius.
      In the grand scheme of hoisting it's small but consider that a 5-1/2 x 18" x 30' glulam is only 750# it would be only slightly more than 50% at full reach. Plus, honestly when something is more than a few hundred pounds how much are you going to do with it at the top of a ladder anyway :-)
      I'll need to get the mobile guy back to set most of the next lift of steel but it should go quick.

    I like your videos, as I spent over 45 yrs. in heavy construction that included steelworks & a lot of concrete forming. We did not have the advanced tools and equipment like you have today, but I love that portable crane you used. What brand /mfg and height was the one you used? I saw them used a lot in Europe, like Switzerland, for even small homes, especially for constructing a log home.

    • @ShredPile
      @ShredPile  3 месяца назад

      A guy can build an awful lot of stuff in 45 years and see a lot more, good on ya!
      That little crane is an Italian Benedini B618. Roughly 50' under the hook with a max radius of 59' and 360* rotation for a 118' circle. Max lift is 1 metric ton or 2200# out to 37' radius and then it tapers to full reach at 1300# max. I have it set so I can't deck the block on level ground so i run a hook on a 4' strap to keep the block out of my face and a 16' two legged bridle so i can reach onto the basement floor or in this case the driveway below my feet. The machine weighs a little more than 10k pounds and it uses 20k counterweight or 10-2k blocks. Runs of the 20A 220v on the power pole and is remote ops only. the erect-derect is levers on the turret and there is a hydraulic foot under the counterweights to help take the weight off of each leg to help level the machine during initial set up. It is small machine with small payload in the crane world but if you think of the work I can do with it from a 12" radius working pad it's pretty nuts. It really takes a lot of the drama and scheduling out of the equation for me. This job i'll end up needing the 35t boom truck twice still for beams outside of my capacity but it's still totally worth having on the job especially when i start setting beams on the roof from the driveway 3 floors down :-) Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

    • @bstiger6482
      @bstiger6482 3 месяца назад

      Hey, thanks Jake. That is great info, as I always get curious about things that make the job run smoother and faster. I think the ones I saw in Switzerland had a gas or diesel engine for power, does that sound right? What was neat in your case, was that you had the remote close by as you worked, and was able to do what normally would take a crew to do, with just yourself. I assume you are a steel fabricator by trade, right? A hard worker too. Good luck with the house. Thanks again for charing the info.

    • @ShredPile
      @ShredPile  3 месяца назад +1

      I'm guessing an onboard engine would probably be functioning as a generator and possibly a hydraulic pump to erect the unit. I do know that they have some extremely advanced tech in the self erecting crane game in Europe. They have self driving ones that can actually roll themselves down the length of a big commercial building while erected believe it or not and they have some that self drive while folded up to maneuver to the setup location once they are trucked to the site. They also make some truly huge self erectors that are reaching out past 100' now in the US. We've both probably seen larger ones set up here but didn't realize it because they look like a normal tower crane in size and operation. I started out as framer in the 80's and fabricated as a hobby until I went and got my certification in the late 90's and added it into my program. Now I do a really wide set of things including a bit of really heavy industrial building repair and other oddball stuff. I hope you stick around because I never know what's coming next.@@bstiger6482

      The 1-1/8 ply that we use is a premium product and it holds up amazingly. Every so often a part of a piece will delaminate and i'll replace it but it's always been worth the effort and expense to use in the past. It is just one of the things that we have to deal with in this area. I do know that they've improved the 1-1/8 OSB flooring in the last decade to take the rain better but i'm just not on board with it especially when the project is getting wood floors everywhere.

    • @ShredPile
      @ShredPile  3 месяца назад

      No worries, The saw is a skil SPT78MMC and it runs the 8" x 42 tooth diablo cermet blade. The saw turns slower than a normal skil and it's designed to capture all the chips in a basket that fully shrouds the blade Diablo makes the same blade in 7-1/4 to use in a normal wormdrive but the speed and chips can foul you a little although it's great for stacks of metal roof panels or other lighter stuff.

    curious as to logic behind the large "upside-down" hanger.
    Same architect design house across street?

    • @ShredPile
      @ShredPile  3 месяца назад +3

      Oh yeah, that’s a pretty common way to create a double cantilever. Both parallel PSL rim beams cantilever out past the end of the foundation where the block line is. The upside down hanger allows the larger, right hand, rim beam to bear the weight of the box rim, which then continues past to create a 3 foot cantilever parallel with the rims which in turn will support the PSL‘s that create that wall line. Once it’s all wrapped up and sided with windows in it it’s a pretty amazing effect especially since that entire corner is a window with about 4 feet on the end and 11 feet on the long side. That hanger was something else, there must’ve been 60 screws in it :-)

      Вот ответ, который я только что оставил на аналогичный вопрос; Слой толщиной 1-1/8, который мы используем, - это продукт премиум-класса, и он прекрасно держится. Время от времени какая-то часть детали расслаивается, и я заменяю ее, но в прошлом ее использование всегда стоило усилий и затрат. Это лишь одна из проблем, с которыми нам приходится иметь дело в этой области. Я знаю, что за последнее десятилетие они улучшили полы из OSB 1-1/8, чтобы они лучше выдерживали дождь, но я просто не согласен с этим, особенно когда в рамках проекта повсюду деревянные полы.
