well said. capitalist societies put so much emphasis on work that it makes people blame the homeless and poor for 'not working hard enough'--- which is so disgusting given that the mass majority of americans are living paycheck to paycheck. so that just one catastrophic event can make them homeless. we need to have more empathy for these people and we need government programs that actually act as a safety net for the most vulnerable in our society. we cannot claim to be the best country when we don't have those things.

I appreciated the example of the removal of an encampment as having no correlation to a decrease in crime. I always figured it probably would the case, based on the fact that homeless people are vulnerable, but had never seen anyone saying that before.

Very interesting video. Thank you for it!
I think these reasoning of work=success is very hurtful to everyone who are not born in privileged backgrounds. She is more than out of touch!!!

The solution is simple - take 51% of the annual police budget for each city and use it to provide free and low-income housing.
    Two birds one stone.

Homelessness should be illegal. You should always be required to have an address and living space. If you're found to be homeless then you get assigned an apartment. You will be housed no matter what. And only after you refuse multiple times to be housed, then legal repercussions can follow. Homelessness should be illegal.

Unless the living space is more disgusting than sleeping outside, roaches, black mold etc

That's true. There should an option in place to sue the government or change the apartment if the provided apartment is found having these flaws after an inspection.

@Romanski so even if people don't want to own a home and just live off the land, you'd criminalize them and put them in prison for it? That's some empathy from you right there

Well, nobody forces you to actually live there all the time. It's just that you must have a legal address and a potential home to return to at all times.
Maybe for people who actually don't want to live in a flat or a house, they have to fill out a request form of whatever and then their apartment gets assigned to somebody else and they get a letterbox address for the time they request to be on the road.

while your sentiment is nice, making homelessness illegal in our current system would only mean putting homeless people in jail--- which, believe me, the prison industrial complex would LOVE that because it means more government contracts for them.
