As a NZ'er I too admired this bloke, hated him during his career, but that's cos that's how good he was... I certainly hope the Aussies knew what they had in a great player in George Gregan!
This guy haunted my dreams as a Kiwi, and that sledge still rings in my ears at WC time to this day. Amazing player, and time really makes you appreciate how good those competitive days were. We long for a feisty and competitive Australia now, fingers crossed you guys come roaring back - we need you!
And since that remark, it has always been '4 more years' for Aus. He might have unknowingly cursed the Wallabies' WC efforts with his comment 😂...Still, a legendary player of the game who doesn't seem to age at all 😊
As an All Black fan from South Africa, I usually make a recording of every AB test match. To me the most funny moment involving George Gregan was when he was about to clear from a ruck during a test against the AB's, then Chris Jack counter rucked and the Aussie player in front of Gregan bumped into him (backside into his head) which put Gregan onto his bum like in a car pile up. I lost that recording over the years but would love to see that again
Gregan was so calm he could control the refs…. That wallabies team in the late 90s/early 2000s was unbelievable… as kiwis we were really worried the bledisloe would go each year. Not like today though lol
As an All Black fan I loved Gregan; what a player. And frankly, that was an epic sledge. Couldn't have said it to a nicer bloke either. He kind of skirted around the topic, but pretty clear what he thought of Byron. Frankly aligns pretty accurately from what I've been told by people around Super Rugby and the All Blacks at the time.
Insane to think George, Corne Krige and Dafydd James was born in the same hospital in Lusaka Zambia within a short space of time (think just a little more than 12 months apart). Such a weird coincidence.
The Wallaby Teams that came after Gregans Era never had the same aura as these guys. Instead they borrowed the arrogance but could never rise to the occasion. As a Kiwi I hope Australia finds it again. Bledisloes have never been the same.
That Australian team were always out thinking the all blacks. Finding ways to win by getting under under their skin, neutralising their best players like Carlos, and being technically superior. How Gregan is describing how he knew how to psychologically needle Byron is a perfect example.
They were literally smarter. There were more tertiary educated guys in that team compared to the ABs by far. When it came to being able to apply critical thinking under immense pressure, they had a huge advantage. I'm a kiwi and an ABs supporter but that sledge is absolutely legendary and by all accounts Kelleher was a complete muppet. Good enough player, mind, but I remember seeing him out and about in the pubs & clubs in the 90's and he was always strutting around with his chest out as if he was "the man" 🤦♂️
@@scottyfisiihoi5718 Right, "the man" who played second fiddle to Marshy for his entire shortlived ABs career. Don't confuse matters by comparing him to me lol that means absolutely nothing. Compare him to the great halfbacks of his era like Gregan and Marshall to name just two of many. Yeah nah he doesn't compare at all. Not even close.
As a kiwi, I think it remains the best sporting sledge ever. I've used it myself several times, and I have to say that nothing beats using it against Australia. That's life.
@@billymack333 Well we have a tough one against France coming up, I see France were also U20 World Champions 2018-19 with the next 2 tournament cancelled due to Covid which means they have depths coming through their rank's, could explain why they are looking so good atm. No pressure being underdogs bro, like us, we don't have a show according to some Northern Hemisphere supporters, but I think they underestimating us. Good luck bro.
It blows me away how down-to-earth this guy is off the field. Unlike Justin Marshall who seems just as much of a stirrer off the field as he was on it.
Georgie he he he he he you got me laughing mate I mean really laughing out of my clothes he he he he he. Yep four more years George yep four more years he he he he he..........
As Kiwi fan I must admit Gregan was bloody awesome 😎 👍🏻
As a Kiwi and All Black fan, I also respect George, totally smart his total honesty, an awesome half back and what a great Rugby player!
Love the 1990s wallabies and hated them in equal measure. Great to see George, one of the greats
As a NZ'er I too admired this bloke, hated him during his career, but that's cos that's how good he was... I certainly hope the Aussies knew what they had in a great player in George Gregan!
As a kiwi I hope you Australians realize how good this guy was......we loved to hate him because he was so good.....hes an absolute legend
We SAFFAS felt the same about Gregan - he was a legend (that we hated).
I agree, would have to be up there as a legend. Aussies must be proud of this man. What a champ! Respect from New Zealand

Thanks for mentioning the late Jerry Collins🙏🇳🇿🇦🇺🇼🇸
I was at Eden Park in 2011 semi-final and had great pleasure in chanting out “four more years!”
It was closure and I can now die happy.
And since that remark, it has always been '4 more years' for Aus. He might have unknowingly cursed the Wallabies' WC efforts with his comment 😂...Still, a legendary player of the game who doesn't seem to age at all 😊
Don't let Gregan's mild manner fool you. He was the Sean Fitzpatick of halfbacks.
What a strange comment. Why are you assuming others (who you don't know) haven't seen him play?
More Sid Going, my opinion.
@@PB22559 A lot of younger fans have no idea who the older generation of players were, nor do they care. Just my experience.
@@Patrick8804 So why mention Sean Fitzpatrick in the same sentence?? If they don't know who Gregan is they won't know who Fitzpatrick is either.
@@PB22559 Not necessarily. I think Sean has a higher profile as he’s been the chairman of the Laureus World Sports Awards for a long time now.
Kiwi here, I still rate Gregan (especially at his peak in 97) as the best halfback I've seen.
As an All Black fan from South Africa, I usually make a recording of every AB test match. Gregan was truly something special. Respect from NZ.
Huge respect for George Gregan, an outstanding competitor and world class Wallaby.
Is Gregan coaching? If he isn’t, he should be. He was naturally gifted, but obviously has a genius understanding of the game.
Gregan was so calm he could control the refs…. That wallabies team in the late 90s/early 2000s was unbelievable… as kiwis we were really worried the bledisloe would go each year. Not like today though lol
As a kiwi I will always remember when gregan hit the ball out of Jeff Wilson’s hand and saved Australia the bledisloe cup
That was the saddest night 😅
I am a Aussie, is that the last time we
Won the Kiwi Cup , sorry I mean the
Bledisloe cup , what is it 20 years ago
Can we just have it for Year !
As an ABs fan, that was a great sledge to be fair

Remembered that 2011 ”4 more years chant" at Eden Park😂, but kinda late comeback.... 8 years late

Agree. ABs fan here and those wallabies over 4-5 years were incredible. By the way, most kiwi fans rated the "four more years" comment, to be fair.

Rest In Peace JC always love my ABz but this man here is IMO the greatest HB ever!!
Didn't Justin Marshall and Byron Kelleher absolutely hate each other?
Oh I miss him best half back ever, Joost, Fourie & Faf all based their play on him hey.
best, and cleanest sledge ever
Best sledge ever, didn't like it at first being a Kiwi appreciate it now
Ditto
Damn. The realisation. I still remember how much that comment hurt when he said it.

Go georgey bloody legend bro smacking ol mate jeff over the line he should have gone in low to score
Being a kiwi he wasn't wrong about that good luck guys for the World Cup 2023.
Wallabies should make the semis as long they can beat Argentina in the pool stage. Definitely the dark horses.

Fast forward to 2023 world cup. Four more years Wallabies.
Man Gregan was some player
I really hated how good this guy was in his day. When the Saffa's played Auss and he was starting you just thought ahh man.
Gregan hasn't aged
Can someone explain...does RugbyPass own Good, Bad, Rugby or vice versa? Because isn't this set the exact same as GBR's old one?
Aussie rugby fans have heard this story about x100
Iam trying to get George gregan to come to zambia the country of his birth.and help us out
Can i get his contact.
champion player...
He was way better than Justin Marshall, and Byron was too
And this is what started the down fall of the Wallabies 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How telling that last minute is after Ireland and France being booted out at the quarters 2023
It's so weird because I can enjoy listening to Gregan speak so much, but when he was playing, I honestly hated his guts. I couldn't stand the guy.
Yup as an All Black fan, Kelleher seemed like a complete tosser. Gregan is a top bloke.
Gregan, what an outstanding player, personality etc...admired by us kiwi's
And when was the last time them wobblies won the BC??? More like.. that's 4x5 more years boys!!! whambam🔥! 👊🏽 we going up, go ABs
does this man age at all?
