I played this game as a kid, completely forgot about it, heard altrive's outro theme going "damn, that sounds hauntingly familiar" but couldn't place my finger on it, then I saw the main channel video of this game and then everything clicked back into place.
Liked it too up to the point where you're forced to have 2 different teams One of which was severely underlvld and since I used the fabled child pokemon technique of press (semi) random things and hope I win, I couldn't finish it.. xD
@@TsubasayaYamiit auto levels all your characters when you use them lol so you must be remembering incorrectly. When I was a kid I just sucked at using the non-combat focused characters so I struggled when I had to rely on tails and eggman over sonic and knuckles - this game is honestly way too over-hated and it’s way better than most of what we’ve seen from sonic recently, but I don’t really mind I still like it a lot
So you may or may not know, there are Viral type Chao in the game that were intended for event distribution. The chao themselves are a homage to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but are now mostly unaccessable by normal means. Only one was released in America (Stugs, Ninja-style black with a black head-orb and white face), while four others were exclusive to Japan (Baki/Pink, Farfinkle/Orange, Fimbley/Blue, and Pooki/Red) unlockable by cheat code. There are Action Replay cheats that can unlock them for the US version if you want to go for that 100% experience lol.
Fun fact; one of the reasons we might not have gotten a sequel is because of Ken Penders, the infamous writer of the Archie Comics run of Sonic. He alleged that some of the characters and storylines in this game were inspired or directly copied from "his" work. SEGA and Archie settled out of court with Penders despite him having no legal case because the contracts said that Archie owned any content created for the comics, not the writers or artists. SEGA still don't want to risk it, so a lot of the Penders stuff is off-limits, even to use for inspiration.
Right there with you. It just lives in my brain and appears as a thought sometimes, like a familiar face when walking down the street, but you said nothing, just kept on walking and thinking "... Huh... I remember them..."
The attack and defense stats on the level up screen are actually attack/dodge accuracy btw. Actual damage output and damage reduction are invisible stats that can only be affected by equipment and/or Chao. Cream & Omega are missable optional party members so be on the lookout for them or you WILL miss out on them. Cream has this busted ability to replenish everyone’s PP including her own.
I finished this game. I didn't really hate it or anything. But it wasn't too memorable. I completely forgot there was a Chao Garden... I vaguely remember not liking Big and liking Eggman and Shadow.
I loved this game. Still kinda do even though it´s ya know...kinda very much bad. I never got past the Eggman Button Puzzle as a kid. I loved Shade so much and I was so sad knowing she never appears again. I actually knew that Altrives Outro music was from this game and it gives me whiplash every single time lmao. This game will forever have a special place in my heart and it contributed to my love for turnbased RPG´s.
I remember this game as a kid. Or more importantly I remember the end of the game. Or rather the pack thereof. Even as a literal child with no tastes or media literacy on a dubiously acquired copy I felt cheated by the ending.
So I played and beat this game as a kid. I’m a huge BioWare fan but never knew this game was from them until recently lol. I liked the game as a kid, chao gardens always a bonus
FUCK YEAH! SOMEONE ELSE REMEMBERS THIS GAME EXISTS! ... To be fair, I just spent all my time hatching Chao eggs and remember very little else about this game.
As someone who played the game twice (got softlocked at final area on first, beat it second) here is a tip UNLOCK CREAM ASAP She has an ability (I forgot name) that when upgraded, restores PP that costs less than it gives you, and it gives to all party members Just note that if you fail any action command with her POW moves they auto-fail, however there is a Chao that auto-succeeds any action command, I recommend you put it on her
I really like the story of this game and despised that it ends on a cliffhanger and was never finished, I think they continued the story in the comics. I'm pretty sure this is one of the few Sonic games that isn't considered canon with the other sonic games. I really liked the game play I completely forgot about the cartoon sound effects though lol. It's nice having a game that has almost all the characters playable and it's nice that teams like team dark have their own special moves they do together. Pretty much the game should be called Lost Potential 😂
This was composed by the same guy who did the soundtrack for Sonic R?! How?? How did that awful rendition of Diamond Dust Zone from Sonic 3D Blast actually get a seal of approval to move forward?
After playing good RPGs, it makes me wish that Sonic's wasn't terrible. Like, I'M JUST SAYING: If Atlus wanted to take a crack at it, I'd be so unbelievably excited.
I've already played chapter 10, it's really hard, when you reach the rock planet, all pow and basic atk become 1 damage, unless you farming a lot (10 days without stopping) or cheats 🗿🗿 and it's terrible at farming alright, also ive been to 40 rounds with the enemy has super immune that youre pow and basic atk become 1 damage bruh, but sonic advance also has chao garden, but one chao only, but still the most unique sonic game I ever played😂
Reminds me of Legend of Legacy for the 3ds (doesn't have anything to do with this game other than being a very obscure rpg that nobody remembers (despite being good))
I remember playing this game as a kid and for some reason enjoying it 😅 Sure it wasn't the best game but i mean as a kid the gameplay and story was kinda compelling. But boy, as a kid you definitely don't notice the absolute trainwreck it is.
Not so fun fact: Former Archie Sonic writer Ken Penders actually sued SEGA and EA for the similarities between the Nocturnus Clan, and his characters used in the Sonic comics, the Dark Legion. Needless to say, for many reasons even outside of this, a lot of Sonic fans detest Kenders...
there's a weird story about the soundtrack that they had to change it at the last minute and used midi tracks from sonic fan sites. according to that they used a bad soundfont so it's off from the original versions and missing entire percussion instruments.
@@boredmagala5701 (Spoilers in this comment for anyone that doesn't want them) Unless I'm remembering wrong, the ending has Eggman with a fleet of ships, almost succeeding in taking over the world just like the situation in the start of Sonic Unleashed.
I beat this game twice when I was young because I wanted to see the different dialogue options. The only thing I distinctly remember disliking about it was that, aside from one specific moment, you always had to have Sonic in your party. He had the most combo attacks with the most characters, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. Oh, that and the final boss fight was entirely underwhelming. Even if you purposefully failed the QTE, you still did a one-shot move for 9,999 damage.
I love how the game starts with a Robotnik quote like he's the Sun Tzu of the Sonic universe or somethin.
Keep in mind this is Gerald Robotnik, Eggman's grandfather, who has even less to do with the game
But he is-
altrive’s outro music being from sonic chronicles: the dark brotherhood of all things is not something i expected to learn today

I think I had the exact opposite happen lmao, did not recognise it at ALL from the main channel but this video,, unlocked something in my brain omg
I played this game and liked it. I was not the sharpest kid in the tool shed.
Me too I loved this game. Pretty sure I beat it twice 😭
Liked it too up to the point where you're forced to have 2 different teams
One of which was severely underlvld and since I used the fabled child pokemon technique of press (semi) random things and hope I win, I couldn't finish it.. xD
Honestly I still love the game to this day
I dunno it scratches a "RPG you don't expect" itch that's only been scratched by Paper Mario before

can you mutilate something that’s already a loose pile of midi notes
@@grumpyface2553Many artists have made it work. It's not impossible.
The blue bastard got a bad rpg and Alpharad manages to still make it entertaining
This channel has a hell of a way to have me hyped for part 2 of a gameplay that I could just watch the VOD for of a video I've already seen months ago

Wait, why is the live channel video (or videos, plural) for Sonic Chronicles so late in coming after the main channel one?
I think he’s just going back to old content and putting together other edits for this channel alongside new ones
