If I only had one lesson to teach you on Albert King's Bending, this would be it. The "big picture" of Albert's bending is not hard to get - lots of people learn that general sound. But the tiny details? Those require careful study. In this lesson I'm going to give you a short crash course in some of the tiny details that make Albert's bending sound so good, details that you'll miss if you're not looking for them.
That sounded so exciting that intro.. So simple but amazingly powerful
Excellent lesson. I saw Albert in the 80s. Those rowdy bends! It's subtle stuff but creates his style and excitement. And not so easy to get that bluesy, expressive feel under your fingers. Many thanks Anthony!
Albert was so unique and his flow was so organic. Blues Power live is the best introductionbto his playing.
Rockin! Texas style!! I can dig it!! Forget teaching math in school. Teach Albert!!!
Knowing my strat is in need of a refret I was praying this wasn't going to be in F sharp. Can't get more than a half step bend out of the 8th before it buzzes. Every other fret is fine.
Guess I'll have to go back to standard. Great lesson as always Stevie ;)
Dude ought to be performing his own stuff, out on tour, once Covid is over. His technique, tone, etc., equals anyone you choose to mention: Bonamassa, Mayer, KWS, Clapton. It’s as if SRV himself has been resurrected. Great lesson!
More like Albert King. Albert King Live at Filmore East 1970 doing Blues Power. No disrespect to S.R.V. he's phenomenal, but those licks are straight out of S.R.V.'s Godfather the great Albert King. Awesome job Anthony. Peace.
@@johntiger5 Of course Albert King influenced SRV very significantly (I saw them play live, at Antone’s) and deserves respect, but Albert pretty much confined his playing to two areas on the fretboard, “pull bending” notes, whereas Stevie played up and down the neck and added some. Both have their place in history for sure.
@@johntiger5 You’re not enlightening anyone. Of course this video features Albert King licks, which is obvious, but my reference to actually seeing them play live, Albert allowing a then “teen-age” Stevie to jam (not the DVD which came much later).
As I pointed out, Albert laid the groundwork, but was confined to a small area of the fretboard, pull-bending notes on his reverse-strung guitar. It’s a subtlety, but Anthony’s gear, tone, superb style of play, is actually more like SRV doing Albert style licks, than AK himself. Similarly, when people attempt Hendrix’ Voodoo Child (except for Eric Gales) they wind up doing something more resembling an SRV interpretation of that song.
@@johntiger5 The “point” is obvious to anyone who comprehends the history/evolution of any art form, or skill. Those that come later, build upon the work of those preceding them, amalgamating certain characteristics, often gaining/refining, but sometimes altering it, and actually losing desirable qualities.
I’ve followed Clapton since the early 60’s-he definitely has his place in rock history, but is hardly the only…or even the most skilled, at playing “high up the neck,” or elsewhere.
I prefer factual observations, and the consensus history of folks who lived it AND studied it, and find superficial, misinterpretative, and argumentative gals like you a waste of time. Go bother someone else.
@@johntiger5 Stevie quit high school and played in bands that frequented blues clubs in the early 70’s, tagging behind his older brother who played w/ different groups but co-mingled, and that’s how he met Albert King, according to biographer, Craig Hopkins, and others.
Re: Clapton, he did not simultaneously play for the groups you mentioned. I saw the Yardbirds play live. Mayall’s group, then Cream followed. Then Blind Faith for a brief time and one album, followed by Derek and the Dominoes, all in my time period playing small bands.
There are a lot of assholes commenting on YT who were not around in the 60’s, 70’s,, and often not even the 80’s, but researched Wikipedia, have heroes they worship, and like to argue.
Now run along and pester someone else, Johnny Boy.
Always Loved your videos!! mate, thanks for sharing this information.
lovely stuff
awesome lesson !
What amp are you using in this? Tone sounds great!
Epic soup catcher

What kind of fender Stratocaster is that. I see the head stock gold colour pegs. Is it a limited edition Stratocaster.
SRV signature strat with a bunch of mods.
I was curious about the major second bends in Laundromat Blues .
Im big fan for Brazil and i want know Is it your old srv strat with another pickups ?
Yes
Greetings from France !
Anthony going all Mennonite on us. Love the beard bro.
Thou shalt bend thy strings with all thine heart, soul and might.
Can u do a video on style of the one u posted when u was sick?
🎸🤘👍🎼Great Style
Take it on little brother :)
it is standard tuning?
Thats fucken great
What brand are those pickups?
Zexcoil
Where are tabs
I think your guitar is tuned a half step flat. You're playing a B on the 8th fret of the E string. Tuned properly, that should be a C, no?
Less is more.....its also harder to play...no room for bullshxt.
she's already spent that $106,000, look at her face
That's more srv than albert king
Anything played on a guitar strung normally will sound more like SRV.
James Scott i know that albert king was one of his heroes but what i meant is that in order to get those microbends you need to do all those bends on the second string(box 3), thats the closest way to get that sound. It’s hard to explain it but just listen carefully, cause there is a difference (SRV played those bends in a different way)Sorry if wasn’t clear at the beginning, i hope everyone has a good one!

James Scott Yo you should read Texas flood. I love that book
I thought so too. I believe that 2 tone bends (from the 3rd to the 5th of the scale and everything in between) is how Albert used to do it. It just sounds different
