  • Learn how to replace your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox battery without having to take it to the dealership. I am obviously not a professional by any means, and figured it out with no exact video to go off of. So, you should be able to as well, comment, share, like, and subscribe please if the video helped, or if you have any questions.

    Trickiest battery I’ve ever replaced. That was absolutely deliberate on their part. I’ll remember it when I go car hunting this spring.

    Thanks for sharing the video. For that screw in the back it helps to use some penetrating oil before unloosening reducing the chance of stripping/breaking. As others have mentioned, it is a 10 mm socket and it helps to have a 10 open end wrench for that pesky screw in the back. For those plastic snaps holding the plastic cover, I use 2 small flat screwdrivers simultaneously to remove the top part of that 2 piece snap. It works great but make sure your slide the screwdrivers between the 2 plastic pieces. Other than that, it was a piece of cake and took roughly 25-30 minutes to replace. I want to take this time to call out the Moronic Engineers from General Motors for turning a simple task into a fucking project that took longer than it was supposed to.

    thank u so much for this video. saved me money and gave me pride in being able to do it myself. The only thing I can contribute to the tutorial is in regards to the plastic "screws" (first things to remove and last things to replace). There are two parts to them. If u look closely, there is a smaller plastic piece inside the outer screw. If u gently pry inner plastic piece at the slot provided and work it around it will lift up, making plastic screw very easy to both remove and replace. Hope this helps and thanks again.

    Very helpful video! My husband just changed my battery without any issues. It's a 10 mm socket though and we didn't have to remove the plastic case from the computer either. We just moved the whole piece to the side.

    Very helpful, I now own a 2013 chevy equinox and it sat for 8 months before I got it. Needless to say after a month of driving it around I'm now experiencing all the things going wrong with it after sitting so long including the battery. I've already replaced both headlights myself, the oil filter/ changed the oil, had to fix a windshield wiper and now replacing the battery is next. Thank you for this video

    Hi Jonathan, A+ for effort, but a B- for execution. I do love the fact you are trying this and I hope you got a chance to replace that broken screw.
    In my opinion too few fathers spend the time to show and teach their kids simple repairs like this. The fact that you are learning and self teaching is wonderful, and you will have a valuable skill to pass on to your kids as they are growing up. Perfect weekend father/son or father/daughter time while they hold the flashlight. And you'll save a fortune on car maintenance costs over its life. This job being the perfect example. Thumbs UP.

    This video just made my life a lot easier. Thanks for posting it. If I would've popped the hood and saw the computer sitting on top of the battery like that I mostly likely would've just said "I'm not doing this" if I hadn't watched this first.
    Can confirm what others said, nuts are 10mm not 3/8.
    Anyone have any idea what the specs of the plastic screws are. I broke all of them and need to replace them. The ones I got aren't the right ones.

    Thanks for the video, it helped a lot. Turns out those three black plugs are 2 piece plugs. I found that the first step is to NOT get right under the plug. There is a seam that you can wedge in there to pop up the top part of the plug that is kind of like a cap on the plug, popping up the cap unlocks the plug. When you are done and need to put the three plugs in again, put them in with the cap popped up then just snap the cap down to lock the plug again. Also after looking at your channel it appears that you're a Baptist so I was surprised you didn't make your battery replacement into a pot luck! :)

    Thanks for the vid, just a note on getting the negative terminal off (which gave me tons of trouble as well). I ended up using two flathead screwdrivers to pry it off by placing them at opposite ends of each other and wedging it around from the bottom and it eventually flew off pretty easily once you catch it at the right angle. Hope that helps others having the same issue.

    Thanks for this vid. I was already into changing the battery and was thwarted while removing the clamp. The part on removing the plastic cover saves me a lot of profanity and abuse.
    For the negative terminal, I just loosened it then some left to right wiggles and I pulled it straight up. No prying required for me.
    Those plastic screws though...

    Thank you very much for this video! it was very helpful. But just a note, since i had to be jumped several times before i could replace my battery, the piece you had trouble with on the negative side is the ground for being jumped. the red goes on the post under the red cap and the black goes on that. Hope that helps if you every need a jump.

    Thanks for the video. I literally changed out my batter on my 2012 today. Did you ever figure out the plastic screws? I did, after I prayed one off so hard it flew away never to be seen again. But it's actually 2 parts to those things. you pry off the top, which allows the shaft to compress and slide out like butter.

    My negative battery clamp would not come off. I tried using a pry bar like he used and still could not get it off. I then used a 10 inch Channel Lock type pliers and grabbed the base of the clamp towards the cable. I then pulled and twisted the clamp and it came right off.

      Joel Shipp hey quick question about replacing your battery. Did you experience any dashboard lights flickering before putting in a new battery? I just replaced the battery on my 2012 because when I turned the ignition key on the car it wouldn't start and the lights on the dashboard were flickering like it was possessed.

    • @Jonathanrpowell

      Dennis Fajardo hey! For me I did not run into anything like that. I would think you may have loosened accidentally some wiring somewhere when you were putting in the battery.

    • @user-bu3vf2wv7h

      Jonathan Powell hey! Sorry I miss worded my comment. My truck wouldn't start with my original battery and the lights would flicker like crazy. I had to jump it in order for the truck to start which led me to believe that a battery replacement was needed. I was just wondering if the lights flickering was a normal thing having a dead battery.? I took it to the dealership and they told me that I needed a ew battery.

    • @thwolf1969
      @thwolf1969 8 лет назад

      No, flickering lights is not normally a sign of a battery going bad. That's the sure sign of a short, however. The short could easily be what killed your battery in the first place. A dying/dead battery can place a high load on the alternator and wear it out very quickly so whenever you change your battery, ALWAYS have your alternator checked. I've had 1/2 of an alternator go out on me in several different cars (that doesn't always trigger a Check Engine warning) and learned that lesson the hard way.

    First, it’s a 10mm nut. Second, always black first to remove and last to re-install. Third, a 10mm wrench would work much better for tightening the positive clamp.

    ratcheting wrenches are a good thing to have. 8/10 mm, sometimes 12/13. For the old cars, 1/4", 3/8", 9/16". Sockets and ratchet handles don't fit well in tight spots

  • @randylish6555
    @randylish6555 7 лет назад +7

    By having a lot of the process completed, you defeat the purpose of making the video. Further, I had to use a metric socket, and not a 3/8 inch socket--it did not fit.

    Worst wrenching I have ever noticed.Turns the socket wrench from the end of a stroke backs it off and then switches it to lefty loosy from right tighty. Man that's painful to watch someone with a socket wrench lose their place over and over again.

    Why aren't more people annoyed at Chevy for coming up with such an annoying and stupid design?!?!?!

  • @panzerabwerkanone
    @panzerabwerkanone 7 лет назад

    The really bad part of this design is that you have to take all this off just to check for corrosion on your battery terminals. That is a monthly recommended service check that is made complicated. It is almost as bad a design as the battery in the wheel well of the Chrysler Sebrings. You have to take one of the front tires to service the battery.

    Watching you work is painful. From the fact you are using SAE (inch) tools on a car that is metric, to the cringe that you have to experiment which terminal to take off first and replace last or the way you have to figure out which way to turn the nut to tighten it.
