    They're using dandelion root extract as a possible cure for cancer, the research is being conducted by Windsor University in Ontario Canada. Looks very promising.

    Excellent information on dandelions as survival food. Thank you! I make a dandelion tincture using stems, leaves and blossoms, young and tender. Packed into a gallon sized jar, cover with vodka, place lid on jar and put into dark, cool place for two weeks. I left mine in the vodka for a few months, it does not matter. Strain through cheesecloth and store liquid in brown bottles (preferably) with eye dropper lids. Put 10 drops directly under your tongue, so that it gets right into your bloodstream, twice daily. All the goodness of the minerals and vitamins will infuse your system with immune-building goodness. Peace.

    I like dandelions in the spring, before they bloom. They are not as bitter then, but I boil them twice, then put butter and a little vinegar on them. They're full of vitamins!

    40 years ago I tasted some dandelion wine a farmer friend had made. It was very clear and hot like Schnapes is hot. Burned all the way down. Don't recall if it was sweet. Something we were doing on the farm reminded me of an Isacc Asimov book by the same name. Chalk up another informative, low key and entertaining video from Survival Lilly. Thanks

    My wife declared war against Dandelions. They took over our once beautiful lawn. She pulled out every dandelion before it could disperse its seeds by travelling with the prevailing winds. Then we learned that the flowers of dandelion are quite edible. We do a soup that includes dandelion flowers, wild mushrooms, heart of cat tails, and wild scallions. Yummy!

    Great Video Lily! You taught me something about slicing the roots and soaking them. As far as the greens go, I would pick the youngest ones and fry them with olive oil and lime juice. The lime masks any remaining bitterness. Makes a very tasty dinner veggie :}

    Like most edible plants, the dandelion has ideal harvest times, for the leaves you must harvest them in the spring before they start to sprout stems or flowers. They are much harder to recognise then but their leaves will be no more bitter or grassy tasting than your average salad greens. You can boil them with a few water changes through out the year to get rid of the bitterness, but you will also lose most of the vitamins.

    I eat a LOT of dandelion greens. They have a lot of nutrition, even when blanched, but not a lot of calories. The key for the best dandelion greens is to look for leaves that have grown fast and without stress. So in the late spring or early summer, that would be in the shade or tall grass, not out in the open. Even with really big leaves, the most bitter part is the rib or center stem. So just strip that out like you would for kale or any other large greens. Then cook as usual. Good job in working with the dandelion roots!

  • @JohnnyHoffa

    regular soybeans. crush them soak in some warm water to mash and to release the oils. let the mash sit and skim off the oil. then roast the mash until it turns into ground coffee substitute. adjust the roast to suit your taste. can be mixed with regular coffee grounds as a coffee extender.

    Hi Lily. Love your channel. My grandfather used to make this as a tea when I was growing up. We used to kid him of this all the time but it wasn't until he passed away did we find out how this plant was used medically. He lived to be 95 so I guess he knew the secret.

    I'm constantly eating dandelion flowers. Pick them, and eat them, like a snack. Very good. Add some cold water to your cup once you've steeped the "coffee" grounds. This will settle the grounds to the bottom of your canteen cup. "Cowboy Coffee".

    Nice one Lilly! Great vid! I'm so going to try that!
    I have read a way to make the leaves more palatable is to put upturned (holes covered) plant pots over the plant for like 3-5 days so the chlorophyll is removed and they're less bitter... If you try that let us know! 😜
    God bless!
