Have to give a shout out to Detectorists on BBC3 ( or is it 4?) ..last episode this week. Excellent performances from Toby and Mackenzie Crook. Well worth a watch.
I was just about to post the same thing. I have loved the Detectorists (BBC4 by the way). An absolute gem of a comedy. Jones and Crook have been fantastic in it.
For me, Toby Jones is the finest actor alive today. Never seen him perform badly and has such a wide array of roles. Shameless is my favourite of his and deserves so much credit.
I saw Toby Jones one evening in London whilst I was working at the London film festival. He walked past and I did a double take. Was a cool celebrity spotting for me- I've been a fan for years. Great video and choice of subject.
I just want to point out that I'm really impressed by I hardly ever see Toby Jones as he plays, despite how easy he is to recognize. Quite hard to pick his best role then, as he always seems to play the part as good as it gets.
First time I saw Toby Jones on screen was in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Now we all know that that film was chock-full of great actors, but Toby's performance gave no quarters. No ma'am. 💪
It's all about The Mist for me. One of my favourite films, and there's a particular thing that Toby Jones' character does towards the end (I won't say what, but if you've seen the movie you should know exactly what I mean) that caused me to literally jump out of my seat and punch the air with glee...
I just went searching for "toby jones appreciation". I never remember his name when I see him in roles, it's rare when I see him in anything, but when I do he's always fantastic.
He makes a cameo appearance in Mike Leigh's Naked as a homeless man next to a food truck. Granted it's a tiny part, but the film's too good not to mention.
I really want to see Berberian Sound Studio, I've studied post sound for 2 years so it interests me to see a film about it, but it looks so unpleasant and unsettling.
If that wasn’t the No.1 film I’d be terribly upset. A really great horror film. For a great crowd pleaser I love him in Captain America: The First Avenger And he’s brilliant in The Mist.
I love him as Lance in Detectorists.
You gotta mention The Mist! Even just for the line... "That'd mean going out the front door..." Love his Ollie. King among men.
He was incredible in 4x02 of Sherlock. So intense and chilling.

I thought I might as well see well see what it was like, not expecting much, and it is just great.

Thanks Mark. Never knew Toby played Dobby! Loving him in The Detectorists. Must watch out for the Berberian Sound Studio.
Saw him as the lead in Uncle Vanya during January Lockdown. Superb acting... I was glued to my seat! Don't miss out.

Has he ever been in a movie with Timothy Spall? They'd play so well off each other.
I agree about Mark Kermode's first choice . Berberian Sound Studio is an outstanding film , and Toby Jones gives a brilliant performance .
I think his performance in the painted veil deserves a mention
What about Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army? Priceless reconstruction of an iconic character.
Just watched Marvellous. It was, and so was Toby Jones.
High like everyone else in it I would have to have his performance in Tinker, Tailor.... in a top 5 of their movies
He was a perfect Capote.
He was quite good in Dr Who.
Toby was.great in dads army. Very underrated film.
I can't argue with Mark's choice of #1.

Mrs Carmody. “Shut the f**k up.”

I always thought it was Vladimir Putin playing Dobby.
I have a video of Toby singing on Pebble Mill at 1 from 1982...

Berberian Sound Studio is probably my favourite film of the last decade
Dobby is Toby Jones?
Wow...

I would have to say Marvellous, if only because I attended Keele Uni, where the character is celebrated.
Gomez video for whipping Piccadilly with a much younger Toby Jones .

Give us your top five Tim Curry films, Dr. K.
ook! 😊
Toby Jones or Nobie Jones?
PSH's Capote is Better that Toby's one
Its a small role but his Karl Rove in Oliver Stones underrated "W". He is everything Bush jnr is not and that's why he's so useful to him.
I thought he was amazing in the BBC production of Joseph Conrad’s the secret agent
could have helped a person who is seen as a bit part but good actor by having a proper and not bit part list!
He'll never be as good as his dad
Love Toby, but I can't stand Dobby
