This was a cleaning of parts and reassembly . I didnt see a gasket used for the cover, or, new bearing's, piston and rings, new crank seals, a light honing of the cylinder for good seal of rings, not a lot of new parts, but, a major cosmetic restoration . Now, if you did other things such as installing new parts or you performed other procedures you didnt show in the video, I apologize in advance. 😊 Its the perfectionist in me. Great video !
Most of the procedures were done off screen purely for the reason that the video would be 4 hours long. Sometimes the engine rings are still good so I go by if its still good, I leave them be.
Looks great!! I like how you never showed the valve spring R&R oh and you forgot the choke knob linkage rod. Tip: put a bolt back in the thread boss on the starter when you take it off, saves on the eye, too bad one was broke. Looks awesome!!👍
I wanted to hear this run. My Grandpa worked on these on a backyard bench. I used to watch and help out cleaning parts. They are a lot easier to work on now.
Nice work . I did notice the pull start assembly one ball bearing was in the wrong spot....look at when you assemble it there is two in one slot... Besides that awsome job.
When it comes to adding oil buy a plastic measuring cup. Fill the cup with the required amount of oil needed. Tilt the engine backwards and add the oil. Wow no mess. Just a thought here.
Nice rebuild 👍 I was trying to see those lap marks on the valves after you had finished but couldn't make them out. Great job. Hope you get it running later.
I was recently given a lawn edger that uses an engine almost identical to this. The carb is different in that it does not have the diaphragm. Can you make a recommendation on where to find a service manual for these types of carbs? Thank you!
When you put the crankcase cover on, did you leave the gasket off? I did see you adjust the points and give it a spin test to see if it’s sparking? I didn’t see you put a gasket on the carb? You should of plugged the hole in the point cover. And siliconed the wire, to prevent moisture from getting in. Was this your first ever rebuild?
Does anyone know that model of this carburetor? The cheap replacements I've seen that fit this style of engine don't have the same layout or crankcase return port. I can rebuild a carb with the right kit, but I also need the tank screws as they are all stripped and can't be tightened properly. It was like that before we bought it a few decades ago ;).
Very nice work! Question: the PTO end with the reduction gearbox looks different in the "after" shots. Did you replace it, or just orient it differently? Thanks!
@@AJRestoration Hi and thanks for the response! I looked again; if you compare 28:57 to 29:15 I figured out what the difference is... it looks like the bell housing is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the "before" to the "after." It seems as though it was designed so it would work either way so that the oil drain for the gearbox could be oriented left or right. Love this series and all your restorations!
The spinning with the compound is called lapping. The compound is gritty and help get any burrs off the valve and valve seat so they mate and seal when the valve is down.
Don't mean to be a nitpicker but, one of those balls on the starter gear jumped slots and you doubled up balls in one slot, and I noticed you didn't put a tank - carb gasket in, and also an intake manifold gasket on. That's going to cause an air and fuel leak. That may be why it wouldn't start for you. Hope you got that straightened out.

Bought a go cart with this engine. This was a huge help

Those peels... You, Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
I recently picked up a 1971 Giant Vac leaf blower with the exact same 3HP engine…. This video has been extremely helpful!!!!!
Thank you great friend. did an excellent job. I left my like. And I already signed up.
Thank you very much, welcome to the family!
I remember this Engine as a kid my dad had this Engine on a few mowers he liked the Briggs and Stratton and Kohler Engines back in the 1960's and 70's
Kohler engines are my favourite!
@@AJRestoration I have a 22 horsepower 725cc V Twin Kohler Engine in my tractor
I have a 1977 Sears mower with a Brigs & Stratton motor that I run on “Ozone Alert Days” it makes me feel like I am doing something for the planet !!
Haha that is awesome!
Superb!
Awww. Wanted to see that thing purr
Wow perfect restoration
That white powder coat looks great. Nice job as usual.
I wanted to hear this run. My Grandpa worked on these on a backyard bench. I used to watch and help out cleaning parts. They are a lot easier to work on now.
Man those engines were rlly complex back in the day. Like the flywheel mechanism
Simplesmente um espetáculo de restauração parabéns !
Work done here is absolutely flawless, finshed results says it all ,this guy knows his shit...
good restore👌👌👌
This was one tough motor! Ours ran for over 30years.
Nice Video Love these Restorations 😁
Glad you like them!

Beautiful build, thanks for sharing!
Very nice! Can't wait to see it run in the next video!
Did you decide not to replace the rings (or did I miss that part), or what were your thoughts on that. Thanks
Good two videos!!! We will wait for the testing :p
well done. :)
Great video, I like the restauration a lot
Valeu AJ! Ficou muito bom, trabalho profissional mesmo. Seus vídeos são inspiradores!
Yes they are
Amazing job, I enjoyed your great work, I wish you continued success

Great rebuild I think your next rebuild should be modified small engine like this one you know make it bit more powerful bigger cylinder head
Cool idea!

Maybe you should have done the electronic ignition conversion, kits readily available.
Good idea, but the points are still good with a strong spark.
maybe iu can push my riding mower to you, to take a look at it. i am so confused on hooking up the linkage!!
If you are local, send me an email!
Muy buena restauración 👋 saludos 🇨🇴👋👍
pink spark plug.......never seen that color of a spark plug before interesting

There are quite a few online.
@@AJRestoration Everything I find refers to the carb with the diaphragm and not the model without the diaphragm.
Marvellous
Torque specs be dammed!
Ugaduga specs haha
what have you done to the wire to the carby & the rest of the carby fittings?
I did not attach them again since I wanted to use the choke and throttle manually.
I put a round muffler on mine, so much B.S., (no pun intended) just to change a diaphram with those oval mufflers.
I saw 1 eye bolt missing on top. Why is that?

That's the plan!

As far as I know, its the same?

what is the stuff on the threads of the muffler ?
That is copper based anti seize paste.
Well....at least it looks nice.....
Well thats a very nice rebuild, looks beautiful. Any planning to to use it for something?
👍
I just saw your video, you mentioned your had a diaphragm problem. What exactly did you correct.
What is the engine number for this 3hp Briggs and Stratton?
Not sure, ill have to check for you.
Great restoration. How did you do the label’s?
Can you start it up?
I could not get it to run in time for the video deadline.
I didn't know you could get stickers for those old engines like that. Wonder where?
Where's the coil pack from?
Its the original.
What are these gloves known as, so that seller can understand it.
Hi great restoration , can I ask who and where did you get your new parts from
Loved the video. Q ... where did you get the new decals from ... they look great.
Great video. Where do you get your spares and part numbers here in SA
Turfmaster in nigel has all the spares I need, if I can't find it there I'm screwed haha. You know what a headache it is to import.
@@AJRestorationThanks for the reply. You're lucky. Not so easy in East London where I'm at.. I've imported but without the part number I'm screwed.
Nicely done, thank you. I have one question about the valves. Why do you grease them up and then spin them in their posts ?
Its engine oil, its so the valves have good lubrication
The spinning with the compound is called lapping. The compound is gritty and help get any burrs off the valve and valve seat so they mate and seal when the valve is down.
@@jkurl15 thank you.
Wonderful! Where do you get those decals? Are they gel covered?
Correct.
Where can you buy such stickers?
New gloves I see you are going through a pair of those in no at all

Good Job. As all ways. Where did you do those stickers? That had me in a panic in the beninging.
I downloaded them, edited some of them and had a local contact make it for me.
How much oil goes in these engines?
Until it is level with the fil hole.
не увидел его в работе. покрасить это одно дело, а вот что бы работал должным образом, это другое.
А как работает почему не показали???
Top akkurat
I didn’t see the points being adjusted, perhaps that’s what preventing the starting
There is spark, the issue is the new diaphragm I got, It seems to be the wrong part. If I spray a little gas in the carb, it starts right up.
@@AJRestoration Good information! I love the work and its great to see these old machines coming back to life.
Porqué no lo puso a funcionar?😢

Good eye, it turned out to be a faulty carb diaphragm.
Unbelievable
Cadê funcionando 🤷
