  • Fernando Alonso has demanded answers from FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem over what he sees as "nationality bias" against Spanish drivers, following a crash with Lewis Hamilton on the first lap of the Miami GP sprint for which the Mercedes driver went unpunished. Max Verstappen takes pole for the race, ahead of the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Alonso using an argument of discrimination is not a problem, but using Hamilton as the beneficiary of any FIA bias is just egregious.
This is the same FIA that turned a blind eye for years as Spanish fans wore Gorilla suits and threw bananas at Hamilton. This is the same FIA that turned a blind eye to mistreatment of Hamilton on track and at press events. The FIA is French, Liberty is American, and last time I checked Ferrari is known to throw their weight around when it comes to rules etc. I don't think it's Brit biased but more top driver biased much like how the NBA calls fouls. If Zhou or Sargent tried that Ham move, they would have been penalized regardless if it's the first corner. Since the contact is star on star crime, it's a "racing incident." I think people think it's Brit bias because Ham was so successful for so long and the sky coverage. It's more the desire to keep the top drivers in the action so viewership doesn't fall off.
