A senior official of Techo Takhmao International Airport Development Company emphasized that the company has prepared land for the construction project of the railway connecting Techo Takhmao Airport to Phnom Penh.
Responding to questions from Cambodia Thmey during a visit from more than 150 representatives of national and international airlines as well as air transport support providers to learn about the progress of the construction of Takhmao Techo International Airport in early June, Mr. Charles Van, director of Cambodia Airport Investment (CAIC) and director of Canadia Group, said that while the construction of Techo Takhmao Airport is more than 70 percent complete, the company has made plans to support the development of Techo Takhmao Airport infrastructure. The company has reserved land for the construction of a railway connecting Techo Takhmao Airport to Phnom Penh.
"Along the 60-meter road that the company is building from the airport, we have prepared a plot of land for future development as a railway," said Charles Van.
"Because the project is in the process of being studied, it is planned for the future and when the process will start depends on the Cambodian government," he added.
However, according to Charles Van, the construction process could begin after the Techo Takhmao Airport is completed and fully operational.
Recently, two Chinese railway companies received a green light from the Royal Government of Cambodia to study the construction of a subway line in Phnom Penh and a light rail link between Phnom Penh and Techo Takhmao International Airport.
After receiving the green light from the Royal Government of Cambodia, the leaders of China Metro and Guangzhou Metro traveled to Cambodia to meet with relevant institutions to study the project.
Under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, a delegation of Chinese railway development companies attended a meeting with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions.
E. Sun Chanthol emphasized that improving the transportation system in Phnom Penh is an important task and is highly regarded by the Royal Government. Metro lines in Phnom Penh and light rail links between Phnom Penh and Techo International Airport are very important to facilitate travel as traffic in Phnom Penh becomes more congested.
In addition, the construction of a subway line in Phnom Penh and a light rail link between Phnom Penh and Techo International Airport has helped the Cambodian economy and the environment.
At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol also instructed the Chinese railway development company to expedite the study to submit to the Royal Government for review.
It should be noted that during the visit from representatives of national and international airlines as well as more than 150 air transport support companies to learn about the development process around the construction of Techo International Airport, Takhmao.
Mr. Van Chanty, Director General of Air Transport Policy and Transportation of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, said that the visit was to provide information on the latest developments in the construction process of Techo Takhmao Airport and to prepare the relevant companies in advance to provide services. Aviation at the airport will be operational shortly.
According to the officials of Techo Takhmao Airport, as of June 6, 2024, the construction process of Techo International Airport (TIA) has completed more than 75% and cost more than 1,100 million US dollars.
