    Great show lads! I’d be happy with Alonso or Amorim. Between jobs at the moment, I’ll donate when I can afford it. *As Cope says about what the club has achieved, for me the near quadruple season, if you think of football as pure entertainment, to give us something to look forward to each match of the season from day one to the last was an incredible achievement. Yes, it ended with heartbreak but I hope one day someone makes a documentary of that side. They gave their all and I’d love those players to know how much we appreciated them.

    • @jaysmith2858
      @jaysmith2858 8 месяцев назад

      FSG may be better than G&H, but that doesn't mean they've been, or are 'great' custodians of LFC. That's not to say that they haven't done some things which have benefited the club, but they are doing those things because it is benefiting them financially, including using the club as collateral when investing in other, more important (to FSG) sport related investments.
      Just look at the Red Mancs and the Glazers. They've won a few more trophies under them than we have under FSG, including four more league titles. Despite that, ask Man Utd fans what they think of the Glazers and they'll almost all tell you that they hate them and want them gone.
      Look at what FSG did in terms of the pandemic and the furlough scheme. Then you have the issues of ticket prices and trying to trademark the word "Liverpool", two things they were forced to backtrack on, largely as a result of pressure put on them by the fans. Something that many fans also do not know is that loans were taken out to develop Anfield and the training ground, but not only were loans taken out, but they were taken out via a subsidiary of FSG. That begs the question of who exactly is benefiting from the interest payments?
      Between 2012-201 Liverpool rank 11th in the PL in terms of owner net investment, which is bad enough, but if you take the last five years, FSG's net investment ranks 19th. If you polled a large number of Liverpool fans who they think is more responsible for Liverpool's recent success out of FSG or Klopp, I guarantee you that the vast majority will say Klopp. You may want to give FSG kudos for hiring Klopp, but given their knowledge of football Vs their knowledge of American sports, I think it's very likely that the reason they hired Klopp is because he had shown he could be successful whilst adhering to a strict budget, not because they have a great awareness of what makes a great manager, or what even makes 'a Liverpool manager'.
      In regards to expressing a positive view of FSG, whilst that is your prerogative, and you may well be sincere in your views, let's not pretend that 'the access media' isn't a thing, or that certain individuals or organisations aren't adversed to a bit of shilling. Just look at the mass media's treatment of Manchester City both before and after these 115 charges became a thing. They effectively never mention how they've gone from a mid table club to a juggernaut, never mind these 115 charges. Why? It's because they want access to the club, the players and the manager, something that will likely be revoked if they say something that raises the ire of those involved with Man City. Such things don't require the say so from the likes of Masour, or in Liverpool's case John Henry. All it takes is for someone in a senior position to take a stance on a particular issue be it revoking an individual's or organisation's access to the club, or actually giving them access or some other perks if they happen to say the right things about the club.

    Houllier, Benitez, Rodgers and Klopp all referred to "character" regularly in interviews. The best Liverpool sides have all had character and those who have been the hardest to endure have lacked it. Anyone who has played the game at any reasonable level knows it is an important facet of success in football.

    The criticism of Jones was and is ridiculous, he has always shown himself to be adaptable and very capable. He has shown himself able to directly follow instructions from the manager - filling in multiple positions, I love that "Swiss Army Knife" analogy, Robbo - and I think that's his biggest asset. He obviously always has had outstanding talent. Elliott has been hugely impactful from the bench this season. I'd personally like to see him take this into starting appearances. Too often he's ineffectual when he starts for me. He is still young, though, as you say.

    A bit random, but when Paul mentioned how other clubs would bite your hand off to have 'only' won one league title under Kloop, I was reminded of being at a conference looking into ways of how to tackle actual poverty and the just as importantly, perception of poverty (as it is the latter that is the real fucker) and a chap from the CAB got up and did a presentation on how as a society we are conditioned to avoid even thinking about the question of how much is enough, in all areas of our lives. I agree with both of you that character is needed to achieve potential, as talent can often be wasted and I think learning to put the issues we face in perspective helps develop character. We might end up winning fuck all this season and I will be gutted we do (especially if it is by the point PGMOL deducted from us against Spuds - no I won't let it go either) but regardless of what might happen Jurgen Klopp has already done enough to be a Liverpool legend now.

    Some good points made, I don't think fsg are the worst owners, I understand both sides of the arguments. In a perfect world I would want owner's, who have genuine love for football, I give fsg credit for bringing LFC into 21st century interms of commercially. I don't think this model can be maintained to keep us at the top, especially if city get away with the charges. KLOPP is the best manager for this fsg model, I am disappointed in the oweners that they have not come out and said anything personally about klopp leaving, especially how he has worked with FSG and respected that we cant always sign player's that we want but still succeeded.

    Such a good topic, have players got the character for Liverpool? Loads have come and thought they’ve made it - Kewell, Balotelli, Cole, Diouf whilst some have had a point to prove - Robertson, Gary Mac, Mo and Coutinho. Give me a player with a point to prove and a chip on his shoulder any day of the week. Just look at Ian Rush - went to Paisleys office, our most successful manager ever, and demanded to know why he wasn’t playing instead of sitting in the reserves picking up his wages and we all know what happened next.

I dont believe its directly a monetary thing, or even an "agreement" per se but - like every other job in the world - you understand sometimes how to box a bit clever to help you along

      @thelatechallengepodcast Gareth/ Paul; Long time viewer and fan so please don't take it personally - you two (and Craig btw) were the best thing on the wrap - I don't in anyway think it was discussed but, hypotheticaly imagine you had an "anti fsg" show to upload or article to publish when you got a club email offering you access all areas on the pre season tour and some big interviews. If you can honestly say you wouldn't even *consider* shelving the piece, knowing this could make or break your show and potentially turn it a full time occupation, then you're a far better person than me and fair play to you. Also, I don't for one minute think its John Henry per se but of course he'll have underlings doing there best to make sure fsg get the best press possible in whatever way that is.

    Actually lfc lost to arsenal so it was a problem. Man city and the 115 charges has created a mad situation where you need to be near perfect to win the league.

    To play devils advocate for the tinfoil brigade. It obviously wouldn’t be John Henry that would veto any access. It would be a PR exec or head of the marketing team who would research and investigate any independent or 3rd party media outlets to vet what they’ve said in the past along with any nefarious associations and/or controversies. Which is very common practice for organisations as big as LFC and FSG. I feel you’re straw manning the argument here lads.

    • @garethroberts6075
      @garethroberts6075 8 месяцев назад

      No mate, you are. Because no one from LFC, PR exec, head of marketing, press or otherwise stood in the way of, attempted to control or anything else. How would that work exactly? No one ever told me what to say or write and I did exactly as I pleased. Same applies to everyone else.

    • @waterwulf
      @waterwulf 8 месяцев назад

      @@garethroberts6075 that’s fair enough. I’m not insinuating that they attempted to influence you in to saying whatever you pleased. But it IS an almost certainty that they would have vetted you and/or whatever media outlet you were working for at the time to ensure they weren’t giving legitimacy or ‘access’ to something or someone they wouldn’t desire to be associated with. Especially when it comes to smaller independent outlets. At one point is that considered by the smaller outlets? Is it naive to think on some level it does influence the stories and opinions that are ran with? At least on an editorial level. I’m asking out of ignorance, mainly.
