Watching this video takes me right back to 1976, coming home from babysitting and turning on "Don Kirchner's Rock Concert" to see one of my favorite singers ever in this pre-recorded video and having my mind blown at its beauty- in every way- Stewart's voice, the lyrics, his clothes, the garden. There was no way to "re-wind" back then, but I was hooked on the song and went out as soon as I could to buy "A Night on the Town" the album that had the song.
I cried so many times while listening to this song after my first love told me it was over, June 1984. It's June 2021 and I still feel that pain. The years have dulled the pain, but my heart never recovered fully. I did love again, but not like I did the first time and I'm sorry I've been too weak over the years to fully give my partners all they deserved.

When I worked in anoperating theatre first as a scrub nurse and latterly as an anaesthetic nurse. In one theatre we had a morning list for vasectomies! These were carried out under local anaesthetic to help relax our patients we'd play music! we always had a laugh when Rod Stewart's record, The first Cut is the Deepest came on. There were a few others that made us smile, sorry I can't recall which one's here days.
I cried with my 1st love brake up back in 1985 , I was 15 years old totally innocent and in love...I would listen to Rod Stewart all the time when my heart was broken with my first love

It was a great album indeed. It is said that, "God gave us memories so that we might have roses in December." I am sorry to hear about your health, sometime things just do not seem fair. When the road gets difficult I try to focus on the things and people that give me strength. However, like you, I till shed tears when a rose falls on my lap.
Thanks for the many experiences here in the chat. I only had one breakup and at 17 you don't know what love really is. My wife and I have been married for 43 years now. Only death can separate us. As you get older, you understand true, deep love as solidarity in all situations, when children are growing up, when they separate at work, when they are sick... I am no longer afraid of anything, becoming a survivor. Then my heart breaks in two...
My mother had his album every picture tells a story way back in the 80,s ... I grew up with songs like this ... This one for me is special its depth meaning along with rods deliverence.
@@garybradley1 Yes, it is. The drug imagery is fairly obvious. But some people just don't understand metaphors and double meanings. @@garybradley1 Well, I could be wrong. But then again, artists usually say that, especially about songs than could have a controversial meaning. In any case, that's the beauty of art. It can mean different things to different people, even things the artist didn't intend or consciously meant when writing it. To me it's about how you never can replicate the euphoria of that first high (the first cut), no matter how hard you try. How it is to love something you know is bad for you. How drugs sometimes can help det your tears when you're feeling sad. Perhaps by making you feel comfortably numb (to quote another artist). Oh, and a funny thing. Melville actually once said that Moby Dick in fact is about a guy chasing a whale and nothing else. It is however widely believed that he was just fed up with journalists constantly asking him about the true meaning of the book. Also, sorry if I sounded condescending in my first comment. Rod Stewart’s version is the one that maintains the hurt and vulnerability throughout the song, and that’s what makes it so unforgettable. Other versions lose it after the first verse or never have it at all. Sheryl Crowe sounds like she is just making excuses to let a guys down easy, not someone recalling pain.

"The First Cut Is the Deepest" is a 1967 song written by British singer-songwriter Cat Stevens, originally released by P. P. Arnold in April 1967. Stevens's own version originally appeared on his album New Masters in December 1967.

My friend(lucky mahomane) introduced me to his music since then im always listening to this guy's masterpiece but i dnt think he'll be able to heal my heart 4 what im going through rite now.i cant believe after loving some1 4 years without giving her any reason to doubt your relationship could 1day hurt me like this
This song is so relatable , I recently had a huge disappointment with someone, I met another person who finally is everything that I want and more but I find it so hard to be in a relationship again , because all I know is toxicity, abuse , bickering ,lies and deceit , I wanna make it work because I am so in love with this new person
The first blow ? Who will hurt more Julie. 💦. I didn't understand " stay " by U2. With the line " when he hurts you " I knew I wasn't capable of that . But then one day in my flat in arbury in Cambridge, I was listening to the radio and the song " stay " came on , as I listened to it and that line I felt a change occur in my soul and then I knew . Who will it hurt more .
this song just sums up my relationship breakdown with my childrens mum she left me for a friend after 8 yrs ive been through so much from drugs suicide attempts homelessness courts and more and come back but that feeling what cut my heart in half has left a big scar dont know if i will ever love another like i did her ❤
Rod was both a great song writer and Performer. My brother thought I was gay because I liked Rod Stewarts music, lol. Songs like this had meaning to everyone. Bread, Cindy Lauper, Chicago, didn't matter. Something happened and a song was the next thing you heard and clarity was delivered and something significant was created. The 60's, 70's and 80's were a great time to grow and live. My brother and I are in our late 60's now and talk about this often enough. He introduced me to most artists and I've always giving him that recognition and he sometimes still say's I'm Gay, lol. Love you Bro, till the very end!
Oh Wow! This takes me back to the deserts of Arabia in about 1977. I had this on tape when doing trucking in Saudi Arabia. As you left on the 700 mile drive from Riyadh to Jeddah, there's a long bending slope from the Riyadh plateau to the desert with collapsing rocks, similar to the USA (Nevada?) This tape played as I looked at scenes I'd never seen before. It just brings all those years back!
Yes it took a lot out of me...and i should have healed properly before moving on...the first cut of anything is always the deepest but its a good way of discovering whether ya have a heart...😊❤

Dear Lord I had forgotten this song, likely by design. Pulls at those heart strings just like it did so many years ago. Lots of hurts in life but damn, that fiirst cut goes to the bone and then some.
I’m 15. Yesterday was the hardest I cried since I was a toddler. I listened to this song after 6 years and realised what I’ve become since the last time I listened to this song in 2015. I realised I was no longer the innocent boy I was in 2015. I had a lot to change. And that change started yesterday. I’ll check my progress after 3 weeks and I hope I’ll be a much more obedient and kind person towards everyone and I’ll be closer to God
Hey young Man this song seems to uplift you. It's not as bad as you think. I have a 13 and 16 year old. And they have a hard time too. You will be fine. Talk to your family,I promise you that will help.
@@airwolf5826 I know you meant well but not everyone has a supportive family. I am surprised that people are still not aware of this. Some parents are abusive to their children and the child has to look elsewhere.
Sooo beautiful richness coming up from Rod Stewart's nature's beautiful body beautifully as in richly mimicking the art 🎨 of made-up communications in ways that some females and males from different cities states and countries can understand and or can relate to by someway having learnt the art 🎨 called words/English.👉✌Peace & respect to Rod Stewart for sharing his nature's spirit's richness.😊
Everything about this song and Rod are perfect. Nobody could ever sing this song better. He is truly the whole package. I've seen him live and he is the ultimate showman and every bit as good live as on his records.

When she finished with me it broke my heart. I just cried in my mums arms. It hurt so much. I have never truly gotten over her. I loved again but not like that. Its been 20 years and i still think about her.
Yes I do remember with you all here. Missing the greatest times of our lives.☮️💞😢🥺💕☮️
Hello Rita. How are you doing today?
Me too.
This is a song that touches the heart and gets emotions going
One of a kind performer ! First cut is definitely the deepest !!! God bless Rod “the bod” Stewart 🇺🇸😎
I had this nightmare some weeks back, where I was almost killed by some crazy guy chasing me.
I outrun and got into a bus. This song was playing, and I quickly relaxed
"The First Cut Is the Deepest" is a 1967 song written by British singer-songwriter Cat Stevens, originally released by P. P. Arnold in April 1967. Stevens's own version originally appeared on his album New Masters in December 1967.
I was 92 years old in 1983 now I’m 132. This song still gives me the chills.
132 yrs? Wow! You are blessed beyond.
You don't look a day over 130, cheers.
@@robindhood9125 I moisturize
It has been over for more than 12 years and I know I'll never love again like I did love you... 💚
losing that first love , is tough as hell, and for those who have been through it, know what im talking about
There aren't too many who haven't been through it...
They are the hardest to forget, but you never can.
OMG!! I know right?!
💙20 years later and my heart is still on the mend. But it gets stronger every day.
Yeah you right
just wow.... man, I know nothing about music..... Rod Stewart, is NOT in my top 20 favorite artists..... and yet, some of his stuff absolutely destroys the junk we get fed today.... this song is so beautiful..... just wow
You realise that this is a cover?
I listened to this song 1000times only now my 2 year old heard the lovely "oooh" at min 3:28 😍
Here I am reminiscing over the past 😪 2 decades later I still haven't quite forgotten my 1st love 💔. I thought we would get married and grow old together 😔.
I don’t think we ever fight our first love.
I’m lucky enough to have reconnected with him after many years apart 😊
@@irishgirl1519 You are lucky and blessed to be reunited .I love a happy ending .😊❤❤❤🎉
@@PerfectPatLovey thank you ☺️

rod- great talent, a truly amazing voice, super star charisma, and a bloody good bloke.
This is a Song of Hope...❤❤❤
The 1st cut IS the deepest ❤️ there’s no Love like your first Love
My friend(lucky mahomane) introduced me to his music since then im always listening to this guy's masterpiece but i dnt think he'll be able to heal my heart 4 what im going through rite now.i cant believe after loving some1 4 years without giving her any reason to doubt your relationship could 1day hurt me like this
Revisting Rod Steward after a long hiatus. I shed a few happy tears that he is still with us.
The first cut is always the deepest, but as romantics we can never give up on love and we always try again... Love you all 😘
This song is so relatable , I recently had a huge disappointment with someone, I met another person who finally is everything that I want and more but I find it so hard to be in a relationship again , because all I know is toxicity, abuse , bickering ,lies and deceit , I wanna make it work because I am so in love with this new person
God can heal your emotional pain if you ask him .😊❤❤❤
The first blow ?
Who will hurt more Julie. 💦. I didn't understand " stay " by U2. With the line " when he hurts you " I knew I wasn't capable of that . But then one day in my flat in arbury in Cambridge, I was listening to the radio and the song " stay " came on , as I listened to it and that line I felt a change occur in my soul and then I knew .
Who will it hurt more .
this song just sums up my relationship breakdown with my childrens mum she left me for a friend after 8 yrs ive been through so much from drugs suicide attempts homelessness courts and more and come back but that feeling what cut my heart in half has left a big scar dont know if i will ever love another like i did her ❤
One of the most covered songs in English language and Rod done what is probably the best cover of this awesome song, by far!
Couldnt agree more. I love the original but always loved this pne as well
This is my favorite song by Rod Stewart. I love his singing, he's the best ever!
Rod Stewart may sing it but it was written by Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)
Song written by Cat Stevens
A song that really cuts me up
Rod was both a great song writer and Performer.
Only one really love, the pain doesn't go, mine lasted for 20yrs before it was lost xx
OMG just move on,let go,let God into your life and heart, don't hurt yourself..Love is a beautiful thing ❤
Aww first cut is the deepest indeed .My question is can someone get over an old flame .I've tried but I can't 😁
Makes me want to weep tears of regret 😢😢😢.I know how it feels when you force yourself to love someone. It never ends well .
Yes it took a lot out of me...and i should have healed properly before moving on...the first cut of anything is always the deepest but its a good way of discovering whether ya have a heart...😊❤
I was born in the 60's great tunes and still listening. MY first marriage sucked. I was in my 20s she wasn't ready. She couldn't be with one guy.still here August 2024
4561z my number i speak to my x wife as a friend
Dear Lord I had forgotten this song, likely by design. Pulls at those heart strings just like it did so many years ago. Lots of hurts in life but damn, that fiirst cut goes to the bone and then some.
Lata 70-te to okres, w którym powstało wiele wspaniałej muzyki. Chciało się żyć. Rod dzięki.
This song was written in the '60's ...............by Cat Stevens.
i am nearly my 70....and still...everytime when i listen this song...i have tears in my eyes....this time was soo nice..
Like it was yesterday!✌️
The first cut really is the deepest. Ill never get over my true love.
First cut is the deepest that's a fact 💯 I'm still trying to love again after 28 years .😊
With God Almighty u can get over every heartbreak and fall in love many more times over 💯 FORGIVE YOURSELF FIRST,FORGIVE YOUR EX...MOVE ON..
Took me years to hear this without crying and feeling everything I denied.. 😭😭😭😭😇😚😚🙏
Never stop your Self from crying 😭 it's the only release
It's a great song though..
How my fellow souls in this journey called life , ain't it good that sometimes love pains are good and make this journey worthwhile. Peace out .
PPArnold!
There is and never was,a voice like this .never 3ver.

Yes, there _is_ and _was_ a voice like this, and it still belongs to Rod Stewart.
