The two records "Every Picture Tells a Story" and "Never a Dull Moment" proved impossible for Rod himself to live up to, as they're perfect in every way, simply as good as rock music ever got, but all that's fine. He made the records, they exist, and they'll forever be remembered.

The sheer swag of this song. There's a reason he still sells out shows today.

"But I blew it without even tryin'." The lyric gets me every time! The band is so incredibly good here, really tuned in to each other. And that fiddle improvisation, wow! The sort of ensemble playing that only came about one time in history. Not sure if Rod wrote the lyrics or not? They're nothing to sneeze at!

In July 1972, I heard this song in an Edinburgh record shop. I bought the LP on the strength of the song. It stood out against the other tracks and after 51 years, I'm still listening to it. The sign of a terrific song - it stands the test of time.

Rod Stewart's best song. So many great songs came out in 1972. May have been the single greatest year for music.
