    People should be careful not to think recovery is more complicated than it needs to be. All this stuff about mold, toxins, diet and so on can be helpful for a small minority who have underlying issues but for many it just creates more fear, doubt and worry and this actually feeds the illness since the illness thrives on fear. Safety is the one thing we need to teach our brains to stabilise our nervous systems.

    • @SweetiePieTweety
      @SweetiePieTweety 9 месяцев назад +22

      The small minority matters too. Everyone’s journey to healing is quite different and brain retraining is not the answer for all things it’s one wonderful tool in the toolbox

    Another amazing interview, Shaun is so insightful!!! As someone who recovered from ME/CFS by leaving a moldy house, diet, lifestyle, and (the biggest thing) a neuroplasticity program, I wanted to weigh in, because I saw some writing in the comments "don't make recovery more complicated - it's just safety." I do believe there is some truth to this. If we're going on all these forums and scared to death of every thing that could be wrong, there will be rabbit hole after rabbit hole, and expensive naturopaths. However, I really think there is a solution for this:
    And that's looking at your own life like a scientist. Because doctors will not, they'll only look at you based on average symptoms and through their own organ/profession lens. And functional doctors and naturopaths will often throw everything at you. With mold, there is no mystery to it. Mold exposure is linked to one main thing, and that's water damage. Also, you don't always need some fancy protocol, good old sweat (at a level that's easeful for you) from a sauna is great at clearing things out. With the diet/gut stuff, I think testing the key minerals/vitamins/metals can help and maybe GI map, but the nervous system work really seems to do the most to heal that. I wish I didn't go down so many rabbit holes of herbs & supplements (so much fear, and so much money), but I think because of channels like yours and us sharing our stories, we're learning what really matters.

      One thing I take from all the recovery videos is that no one body is the same as the next :) it's hard to project one's recovery story onto yourself just because it seems different from individual to individual and you never know how your body reacts, what it needs etc. :) all of the videos are inspiring of course and give you an idea of what you could do, yet, I feel like everyone is so different and it's hard to know what is it that *you* need or that helps *you* since everyone out there has s really different story. Thanks for all the work you put into it!

      It is isn't it. They know so little. Long Covid for approaching 3 years now. First GP appointment a year in failed to even consider it among my medical history, and the junior GP effectively pushed me saying he thought I just didn't want to go to work. 3 yrs in and my normal GP is lovely but they only diagnose it in the absence of other conditions (by doing tests). There is no test to confirm properly that you have it, and then no resolution or structured pathway to recovery that they can offer. They see you when you're acutely unwell (if you make an appt), then commiserate with you, and off you go to deal with it on your own.

    Congrats on your recovery, Shaun! Thanks for sharing your story and being a support to others.
    4 years ago I launched into seeing a Functional Medicine Doctor and I'm sicker now than when I started. I've been mostly bed bound for the past 2 years, but could do short walks & more in the house before actually seeing the Doctor! Maybe in the big picture, once I'm well again, I'll be able to see how Functional Medicine has helped me, but right now it's just been a massive financial burden. I'm on 21 different supplements and medications costing a fortune, (and have been on more again while detoxing!!), and the appointments themselves are crazy expensive too. I've done Heavy Metal detoxes and a Mycotoxins detox, and so many different Functional Tests! The Functional Medicine system sounded fantastic, with getting to the root causes of illness, but now I'm wondering if I should have done the Brain Re-training first.. (I'm currently in a Program.) I wonder if the detoxes triggered my immune system further, to be stuck in defence mode, and further affected my autonomic nervous system too. Time will tell if I can recover with the Brain Re-training.. Ashok Gupta talks about the body being able to naturally detox when all the conditions are right.. I'm glad the Functional Medicine route worked for you, Shaun. I wish it had of worked for me too, as it sounded like the perfect system, and I was ever so hopeful. One thing is, the Functional Medicine Doctor was the one who recommended the Brain Re-training, so maybe that'll be something I can thank her for one day. God willing! Interesting how we are all so different and one approach won't work for everyone, so it seems.
    Take care everyone. 💛🧡💜

      I feel like my story is similar to yours. I feel like doing all the things and not seeing improvement and in some cases getting worse has caused more fear and hopelessness. I have now been working on brain retraining and dealing with the fear before I try anymore "treatments". I have definitely made progress and can see more and more how the fear, feeling unsafe, has effected me all this time. I still have a ways to go but I continue to believe I can get better and that I can tackle one thing at a time. I feel like I need to calm my brain and body so that it can actually process any treatment properly. I feel like my brain sees the treatments as bad (because they are new/different) and rejects them. It sounds like you are on the right path. Wishing you all the best!

    • @misscinnamon5690
      @misscinnamon5690 9 месяцев назад +1

      I would look at DR Michael Ruscio, there's a problem with trends of treatments and tests in the functional medicine movement, There being little to no scientific evidence for the tests, unfortunately because we are so desperate we are willing to try everything and do all the tests.Unfortunately for a lot of us this tends to lead us mostly nowhere or moving on from one functional medicine practitioner to another. It's a burden but doing your own research before seems to be necessary . I hope you will find relief soon.

  • @SweetiePieTweety

    I don’t understand why people can’t grasp the concept that sometimes it’s one straw that breaks the camels back after a long session of straws that led to their illness.
    If you simply reverse that concept, sometimes the thing that gets you better it’s just removing enough straws and finally that one straw That really reduces the load is lifted that the system can heal.
    People can become rigid in their thinking, and their belief system that the way they healed is home everyone should heal, and it is the answer and yet maybe that was just the one thing that finally helped them over the hurdle not the total answer.
    The thing that could be finally feeling loved genuine, love, and feeling safety, and that the final thing could be getting a diagnostic test to give you an answer that you can do some thing and then you feel safe and that the answer could be doing brain retraining, and feeling like it is your autonomic nervous system and you do all the steps and you feel safe again so much it seems is finding those things even structural and getting some help for that removing each straw and then finally healing can happen.
    And yes… mold is a bio toxin and if your system is weak then it can drag the load down to a level it’s difficult to overcome.

    • @electrafyin
      @electrafyin 9 месяцев назад +3

      Agreed! I think anna marsh says for some people who did detoxing etc, the brain retraining at the end was the final piece to the puzzle, but sometimes if you miss some steps it may not have the same impact.

    Interesting! Really pleased for your healing!
    When you said all the brain retraining you can do can't really clear toxins from your body or clear infections my understanding is that it indirectly can do just that. Understanding the cell danger response is helpful as when we are stuck in danger response, not feeling safe etc and we become adapted to this state then it does affect all body systems including the ability to detoxify and how good our immune system functions and much much more. So the idea is through brain retraining we strengthen our bodies own ability to regulate all systems through regulation of the nervous system through brain retraining and mind/body work. However I must say I don't think its always easy to do as I've been brain retraining myself for nearly 2 years with slow progress. However I'm surrounded by unavoidable stress which is tricky!
    It's nice to hear a story of recovery that's not through brain retraining and that you healed through other methods whilst also trying the BR. Congratulations on your healing!

      @@taragunn9400 I think brain retraining is a part of nervous system regulation which is multi dimensional involving somatics, trauma work, poly vagal theory etc etc. Brain retraining part being the awareness of subconscious thoughts that can lead to dysregulation and lack of safety. Interrupting those patterns by coming into present awareness sends safety signals to the brain that we are OK, allowing the nervous system to calm, then leading to better homeostasis

I was incredibly weak and went 3 weeks without sleep at one point. I had various infections in my body before and they finally just found the major issues. It turns out I have MCAS, POTS, 2 viral infections, chronic immune suppression, and an intestinal issue, but I really don’t want to fight this anymore… Feels like I’m just watching my life pass me by while enduring torture with daily insomnia for 9 years. 😭 Really finding it hard to keep fighting lately.

    Personally these stories are so variable that they are more frustrating than not to listen to sometimes. Everyone is different, their paths are different. This will be my last listen.

    The first thing that comes to me is did he have to get vaccinated before his departure? Things happen for a reason. Blessings! So happy about your recovery.

    This video is absolutely pointless. This man does not have CFS syndrome. It’s very obvious. He explains that he had mold poisoning. Also, what the hell is he doing taking money from people? They could be spending money seeing a functional medicine practitioner like he did.

      Your opinion is that it’s pointless*
      You’re hung up on the terminology. Healing looks different for everyone just as symptoms are.
      Dismissing other people and rejecting others from your exclusive CFS club is literally the mindset you need to stay sick

      Cfs is a syndrome, meaning it is a group of symptoms that may have different causes, but the Dr's do not know, because it does not show up on their regular tests. That is why it is important to figure out what you cause is. He just highlighted one option, namely mold poisoning. There are many possible causes and can still be cfs.

      There are many many videos on this channel of people who have chronic illness that is NOT classic ME/CFS. Titles can be misleading.
