if only I was able to make these wings to cosplay as castiel from supernatural
MonsterKitty Xx great minds think a like. Thats how i got here haha
Thats why i watched that haha
+Monster Kittenx If someone did have these wings, they'd become popular instantly at the conventions haha. Also, it would be cool to make these. :)
I made some a few months back. :)

+Monster Kitty Same here
Yes.
Yes.
The wings articulate using a fulcrum and lever approach using a gate hinge and are controled by means of a sheathed bicycle brake cable that I can pull out using my hands or attached to weaponry (see my hawkman costume video).
Those wings must have gained you a well deserved spontaneous ovation when you spread them onstage the first time. They look awesome!
They're realistic enough to be impressive! A costume that is beautiful and very well made all in one... that's rare! Awesome! *thumbs up*
You used Christmas music for a Halloween costume...
I didn't know this was a Halloween costume...
its not christmas music , its dance of the sugar plum fairy
Yeah it's actually ballet music.
Bootleg Morgan Lemons.
Its probably not a Halloween costume. I think its just Cosplay
Man those are awesome. I'm going to have to give that method a try after I finish my gryphern inspired wings
I used turkey feathers, about 3 pounds of (tom rounds) and about 1/2 pound of plumage. Tom rounds average 12" to 14 in length and 1 3/4" to 2 1/2" in width. The hen rounds average 10" to 12" in length and 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" in width.Rounds are either right wing or left wing. The amount of feathers in a pound will vary depending on the size of the quill.
Wow, this looks incredible awesome! You look almost like Gabriel or Michael from the Movie "Legion" with those amazing wings of yours! Very well done :)
Check out these full size, wearable articulating wings we make! ruclips.net/video/nc2P_1IU6cA/видео.html
Prior to this project, I had no training. Much of what I did was self taught through research and development. I started with miniature designs and tested various materials to determine a cost effective method to creating a structurally sound set of articulating wings. The armature was designed by a close friend, who at the time was sculpting, molding, and casting a fully armored batman suit.
Just one thing, the outer parts of the wings on the end are supposed to go behind the inner part of the wing, not in front, that would have made it even more realistic, but other then that, THIS IS AWESOME!!
I would totally wear that
Hi, I'm making a cosplay of a Supernatural fanfiction character (Trinity Scarborough from the fanfic Abomination by WaywardSiren98) and I was wondering, about how many feathers did you use and about how much wire mesh? :) Thanks so much!
I'm doing Gabriel!
This is absolutely amazing!! You look fantastic! I'm cosplaying as X-men's Archangel soon and this was extremely helpful!! Thank you so much for posting this! Hopefully mine will be anywhere near as awesome as this! lol
Those wings would be gorgeous on a Howl's Moving Castle cosplay - they are amazing!
Did anyone notice the cat sitting in the pile of feathers?
I was watching your asylum progress now I see you created another use for it and it is ingenious.
This was so intriguing I don't know if it's just me but the body amor looks very real in detailing and would've created a way better illusion if it were spray painted in the colour of the person's skin tone loved this tho😊❤
Wow, a bit pricey, but I can see why. All that work, not to mention the thought that went into making them. And they articulate! That's the part that makes the price well worth it.
Keep your eye out on your youtube next year, man. 98% sure I'm gonna buy a pair (or two) off of you. Seriously.
WOW!!!!! I can't begin to imagine how you made that mechanism!
AWESOME
I miss to see this kind of quality of cosplay
but... wil it fly?
I don't know, but I'll test it. If you need me I'll be like King Kong (at the top of the Empire State).
Josh Lee 😂
@@joshlee5660 soo did it work?
@@joshlee5660 you good?
No
There were no animals harmed in the making of these wings. The feathers are from slaughtered turkeys that were processed for meat packaging, thanksgiving, sandwich meats, and a veriety of other uses.
i love the back round music!
the wings are incredible! the best costume i've seen in a long time.
The feathers from which you ordered ? You may give the link?
I wish I was so crafty to be able to make a set like this for one of my videoclips snif! I've made several unsucessful tries.
Everyone else: supernatural!! Yay!!
Me: SHADOWHUNTERS!! BOIII!!!
The song is Sarah Brightman's "Time to say Goodbye", although this version is a remix
LOL you didn't mess around! Damn good job!
Now try to make it to were you can fly with them. Make more of them. Put them on sale and you'll be making some $$$ plus I would want 1
Its important to me that you know that isn't possible.
How is it not possible
There are already making robotic arms controlled by your mind. Now just do the same thing but with wings. It probally wont be finished in my life time but I know its possible
Because human bones are not hollow, and therefore are not made for flying. You could glide, yes, but flying is humanly impossible.
+Brielle Rowan Oh I see thanks for telling me
I'm actually working on something quite similer to that, pardon my spelling, This has actually inspired me
Wow that has to be one of the most epic things I've ever seen 0.o
Gash this video almost made me cry. I love to have wings like those
Those wings are beautiful!
That was just to fabulous *stares in awe*
The unremixed song is Con Te Partiro/Time To Say Goodbye.
I have looked into this and the torque required to articulate the wings is impractical. One can use a dispersed array of motors synchronized throughout the wings or two primary motors with torque converters. Either configuration requires about 15 pounds of NiMH batteries (enough for about 3 hours of continuous use, or 6 hours of moderate use). $2000 would barely cover cost. You need to figure in labor - the most expensive part of manufacturing these wings, unless you can get these built in China
Somebody has waaay too much free time on his hands. But good job on making those, they look pretty good.
i think i saw you at sakura con 2011, it was amazing how they moved :0
You should seriously take yourself to Burning Man and wear that outfit... You would be a huge hit!
Oh my gosh, they're so beautiful and realistic :)
congratz at giving good haircuts and being good at shopping, what a tribute to society....
So much work to do, it looks amazing but I'll probably end up ordering some from internet instead.
i would really love a pair of these wings.. it would be perfect for a Maximum Ride cosplay if the feathers were in a different color~
I would rather build a new pair so you can pick the color and I can design it to fit you.
I would also add in extra reinforcements and better articulation.
I have yet to be offered an amount worthy of consideration to start another project.
It is very labor intensive, but if paid a deposit up front for supplies it is likely that I can complete a set in 6-8 weeks (before halloween 2012)
I will update this video thread and my video channel once I start my kickstarter project. I will list the price for a full set at that time.
Short answer: Yes.
The wings in this video are a prototype. The new design is almost ready for production featuring better ergonomics, added reinforcement to high impact areas, lighter weight design, and easy assembly for quick repairs if need be.
I plan to launch a project on kickstarter(dot)com issuing awards at different contribution levels. People who donate at the highest contribution level will receive of a pair of custom built wings to a color of their choosing.
I soooo love those wings! I wish I could have those wings!!!
About 1.5 lbs of right wing turkey rounds, 1.5 lbs left wing turkey rounds, and a half pound of turkey plumage feathers.
Oh i absolutely love the original song "time to say goodbye"
Amazing work!
If I did this I would send a pic to my mom and say "hell yea, I did it!" Mom: "wow... How are going to fit it out of the door when your wearing it?" Me: "I'm fucked."
That is a beast costume!!! I love the wings!
Im going to make my own Angel wings... you have inspired me to do so.:)
37 birds have been harmed during the making of this beautiful wing
I love this! Please ignore the 'feather trolls'...the rest of us do.
I love the costume. It’s amazing.
I was just thinking of where I had heard the start of this song before. Step Brothers! That film is funny :)
Wow dude that's freaking awesome
Spectacular costume........................
Brennan Huff sung it at the end of "Step Brothers"
Great wings. What size PVC did you use? Love the door hinges idea. What are you using at the bottom of the wing on the backpack? Are they flag pole holders? Thanks for posting
I really need to know how to make the frame for the Wings. I'm making a Mid scale set of Vulture Wings for a Spiderman Homecoming Vulture Cosplay and the deadline is a week before NYCC in October
What type/brand of metal mesh did you use as your wing/ feather mounting? Also what are the dimensions of the Styrofoam base that you use? Thanks!
OMFG this is amazing O_O -bows to computer-
i would kill for wings like those....truely amazing job :DD
Right... ?
It's not like I have an assembly line or employees, it's just me.
Many of the supplies to make one set cannot be purchased in bulk and some have to be completely fabricated from scratch.
The most expensive part is labor, which is really cheap considering that my first pair took 8 months to build....
I wish I could make them for less.
Very nice realisation.Good ideas.Congratulations.
can you make a tutorial on how to make these awesome wings please ;)
I engineered the wings to fold down to the precise dimensions of a common door frame
he looks like one of the angels in Dominion, i presume thats what hes going after, and if it is then why isnt it put anywhere in the descritpion if there is any specific theme hes copying or that its just his own creation?
Great choice of music, love step brothers, fkn will!
Great wings! Did you make an instruction set that I could follow? How did you attach the feathers to the wire frame? I'm looking to make these for my costume: a pirate who was morphed with a raven. Please help! I look forward to your reply.
WE SCREAM, WE SHOUT, WE ARE THE FALLEN ANGELS!
can you possibly give me a full list of what you used for this? Bolts, glues, wire, ect.
So how much did this cost total after you finished? And how long did it take? I want to make a Howl cosplay for Naka-Kon in March, but I don't know how much I will need to save up. ALso, how did you make the backpack? Thanks
+Links2ndHeroine In all - I spent about $1600 in materials and hardware. Somethings you only need to buy once like a heat gun, drill set, saw, etc. That also includes costs for research and development and experimenting with various materials and construction. As for the backpack - I purchased one and cut it up. But you can also find patterns for making your own straps and packs.
Working on some designs. I need to make a more versitile structure that can be covered in feathers or leathers
What's the title of that music piece that goes through the first half of the video? I always loved it, but I never can remember the title.
You should have worn a hood or mask with it, that would be pretty cool :D
Oh lol just got to the part with it
Wow genious O_O
This must be really really heavy and prolly was a pain in the axx to place all the feathers. But wow wow love it.
I used about 500-600 Turkey rounds (3lbs.) and about one half pound of turkey plumage feathers.
wish you could have got some video of yo opening the wings or people reactions... but still so amazing...
o.o wow. where have I heard that song before though. Hmm. anyway great work on that. Looks awesome.
Do you have any of the dimensions of the foam you cut? or at least a guestimate? Thanks. the costume and wings are great.
hmmm.... beautiful work BUT I might have changed the texturing on the suit to make it more glossy and steel like and used real feathers for better shine and movement
I'm trying to make a small-scale version of articulated wings, similar to these. I've heard of people using harnesses other than backpacks (corset, armor, etc), which would be nice since the rest of my costume is supposed to be (sort-of) lightweight and fitted, but I've been unable to find examples. Suggestions?
Excellent building, looks very cool. I think if you can manage to change the "flapping" motion in the way that you can spread your arms out parallel to the wings it would look even better instead of having to move your arms downwards. Maybe just rerouting the wires would do the trick. Just a suggestion. =)
*0* i will have this wings too, they look very amazing!!
Really cool ! I can´t help but wonder how you got through doors wearing them XD I mean the look awesome but you can´t not knock stuff down with them , can you?
Hey Aaron, I am trying to make wings for my regime hawkgirl injustice cosplay outfit.
I'm trying to build the framework and hinges portion. Is there a step-by-step? :p
I have another video taken during a costume contest that shows them in motion
Wow , well done , a lot of work for one night out though LOL , teriffic effort 10 out of 10..
Love your wings. how can I get blueprints so I can make my own? Your video went by so quickly.
casting the chest plate & the boot covers are amazing....... how many crows did you say you killed the get that amount of feathers again?
The wing folding looks backwards since when a bird folds it's wings the primary kinda covers the secondary... however you have the secondary covering the primary. >.
This is totally part of the song from Step Brothers. Positive.
Could you please clarify on how you hooked up the wire and such to make the wings mobile?
"...There were no animals harmed in the making of these wings. The feathers are from slaughtered turkeys..."
what did you do to stick feathers to wire frame? Glue? and what did you do to cover the top part of the wings?
Zip-ties and construction adhesive.
i hope someone invents video one day so i won't have to watch boring still photos.
