  • In this episode we work on our L26 engine block and oil pan from the 1974 Datsun 260Z. We remove the casting flash, and clean the engine block. We take a look at the oil pan and make it flat with the engine block. Then we give it all a coat of engine primer and paint. We use Duplicolor engine primer and their Pontiac Blue color paint.

    Awesome job on this project, not to mention the clear and concise videos. I’m super appreciative of this series as I’m ready to finally dive into my 280zx-ae
    I’ll make sure to give this another run through (or two)

    Really appreciate the information Kurt! I went with powder coating my oil pan to match my valve cover which is a candy apple red.

      That sounds awesome! What did you do for block color?

      @@CarsBikesandCoffee my car is white with metallic gun metal grey racing stripes and fender flares. So I had heat resistant paint mixed to match those. I also had the front timing cover powder coated to match the block. The racing stripes are pinstriped with red on the edges to both match the original red interior and the red accents on the engine. Trying to decide on what to do with the engine bay. Go back to original white, refresh the current black, or another color. So far the main colors are white, red, and the grey. The bumpers and rear taillight housing are grey to match stripes and fenders.

    Good stuff. Feel like the rust and paint prep was kind of light weight; but some paints / primers can deal with rust for a time. Looking good.

    Awesome build! Your attention to detail is amazing. I’m also in California may I ask who you used for a machinist for your block?

      Right on, I’m in NorCal, but any good machinist down there would be able to do the same work.

    Oil pans were originally black and not block color from my understanding

    • @CarsBikesandCoffee
      @CarsBikesandCoffee  3 года назад

      Correct, wanted it to stand out more and be a little different than stock

    • @ryanotown22

      Understood my block is Ford blue with black oil pan, black valve cover and blue stripes on the cover so yeah not stock LOL

    Hey I was hoping to get into contact with you. Are u a member of the3000gt mitsubishi ishi forum? I have a similar project car that's an inheritance from a really unfortunate circumstance. I'm the son of an owner that loved the car to pieces and taught me to love it the same too. Unfortunately I'm not mechanically inclined as I'd hoped enough to be over the years I fear it sits there and rots and I have non idea what to do. For him I'd rather honor and repair. Its a near ground up build. Basically every aspect needs worked on. On east of no exp how long u think it be to organize sort learn repair and if its even reasonable to let it sit there for now. I'm not allowed to let it go
