Awesome build! Thanks for posting. I just got my first kayak that I'm planning on using for fishing and waterfowling. Definitely gonna try and build a system like this for mine.
Im running a 870 so no issues with that. I get in and out of the kayak all the time while hunting either to set up decoys, retrieve birds, or pee so having the sides not so rigid is nice. The yoga mat panels are REALLY nice for rain and warmth as well as anti snag though so having the whole cockpit line would be awesome too.
You may have covered this, but what diameter pvc did you use? I'm getting supplies together to make my own version of your creation..... simply because it looks awesome!
@@KainOutdoors good to know. I was trying to figure out the inside diameter of the pole holders. If you used the flared end of the pvc, then I can probably get away with 1.25" and use the pipe itself instead of the flare if needed
Yes I have a couple pieces of EMT conduit if I am floating. I also have a brush gripper that comes in handy if im near trees. amzn.to/3yL6bNv I try to pull the kayak on land as much as possible though.
This is awesome. I have a question about the peddle kayaks. I live in an area with small beaver streams. The beavers knock down trees all the time and sometimes they are slightly under the water. I have been concerned the peddle kayak would hit this and either not get through or get damaged. On your model it looks like the peddle can be pulled up negating this concern. Am I correct here? Are all peddle kayaks like this or just this model?
Thank you. All the pedal kayaks that I know of the drive can be lifted or removed for beaching launching and shallows. The prop itself has a break away knob that will pop up in case you hit underwater object hard enough. Thats to keep from damaging the drive or kayak. Prop blades are plastic for the same reason. I carry a spare but have never had to use it.
There is some water on the floor but Im wearing my waders so it not different than hunting in almost everything else. Before this we would just sit or stand in knee deep water so this much dryer than that.
In denmark we use layout boats, illustrated in this scenario on open water but they can be camouflaged as well. ruclips.net/video/tWcO-UG4G3s/видео.html For pictures see here strandoghavjagt.dk/baadarkivet/traekpramme-og-bobler Of course u dont have to consider the height of the kayak since perhaps u are flush with the height of the vegetation. However as you see on the video the boat is flush with the shooters shoulders, and that i think would be less hazzle then your construction. But constructing and manufacturing is the fun part, and i wouldnt want to ruin that for you. Nice work :)
Great job man!! Beauty!

Awesome. Glad it helped.
Love the setup man plan building mine this week 👍
Awesome. Let me know how it turns out.
Was thinking of something similar using a Hobie H-bar. Your boat is a work of art. Thank you for the ideas
That's pretty schnazzy, I don't duck hunt, but that's a slick setup.
Im going to line the whole cockpit inside with the yoga mat, that aircraft net catches anything especially bolt handles.

👍
How do u transport your rig? Do u dissemble and resemble for each hunt?
No i leave it on. My truck has a canopy so i just slide it in the back with tailgate down. The canopy protects it from wind.
For your flaps, you may want to consider using the driveway markers to create a semi flexible frame and/or hinge to give them a little more rigidity.

I used one inch. Probably could have 3/4 and still been fine.

Terrific idea! I also have a topwater pdl! Will be looking forward trying this out. How do you plan to keep the boat stationary? Stake pole?

TOP SHELF VIDEO! 😎

Do you have any problems with water coming in from the pedal drive hole while hunting? I could see that being an issue in really cold weather.

A lot of skull/layout boats are illegal in certain states
