That brushed in boat blind seems like it's been the ticket to success for you in this slough. Helps put you into the action without sticking out like a sore thumb.
Take your sling OFF unless you really need it if your standing in waist deep water or for securing the gun when you're paddling the kyak. You don't need it where you were hinting in this video. I had the sling over the barrel, missing shots a few times then finally pulled my head out and took the sling off. I'll put the sling back on when I have to go chasing a wounded bird or after finishing the hunt. When your sling makes you miss a really rare setup shot, you'll figure it out. That was a nice hunt you had.
@@hunterbrown2187 did I say that smart-ass? I'd like to watch his flawless hunts. Telling someone who earns a living off making RUclips videos they will figure it out is ignorant but carry on.
I appreciate the tip! I need to get a sling that detaches a little bit easier if I’m going to do that. The one I have is a little bit finicky to pop on and off so it would rather time consuming to be messing with it during the hunt. It would be Murphy’s law for something rare to come in and that sling be wrapped over the rib though
SC checking in! Opening day yesterday, me and my two oldest boys started with limits of Woodrow's. Then we were blessed with some green wings and a pack of divers finishing our limits! Nice mixed bag on public land. Hunted a slew that butts up to a duck pond, it was very interesting to say the least! Y'all stay safe and keep shooting 🤙
Glad to hear y'all are having some success down there! Have y'all seen the migration start to pickup much down there yet? I've heard some really good reports out of NC the last couple weekends
@@HokeOutdoors yessir, V's of divers headed for the big water. But my hole out in green swamp still no greenheads. They'll show up like a thief in the night. Hopefully within the next couple days. We're just getting a cold snap. Opening day was sunny and 75. Not real ducky.
Great hunt! It has to be the consistency of the shells we're shooting sometimes when you miss birds point blank! I've had this happen with doves and I would be like how did that bird not hit the ground!
Thanks Bobby! I think part of my issue is that I was using #2 shot which just didn’t seem to have enough pattern density to get that brain shot I needed once it was on the water
@@HokeOutdoors Hahaha I think it’s just a new process of operations as you hunt a different place every time. Go shoot some skeet right before each season. You will be fine
It’s a beautiful place with lots of good folks! Completely agree about the non res restriction, we saw a few other hunters during our time there but nothing like ND
Are most of your hunts on public land? I live in Ga and public land hunting is weak. Private land is hard to obtain permission bc if it’s good.. it’s already being hunted. I’m thinking about some traveling and wanna get on out of state public land.
Hey man I’m from Franklin County Virginia and I was wondering if you know any good public spots around me that I can hunt? I love to hunt but I can’t seem to find any public water that isn’t more than two hours away.
LOL Ya gotta know it's a crap shoot trying to shoot a duck on the water with a shotgun! You kill them in the air because a moving object is flying through a CLOUD of pellets, dramatically increasing the odds of pellet-to-target connection. Shooting at anything stationary with a shotgun means the "pattern" is two, not three dimensional like a cloud of pellets. Big holes in a two dimensional pattern and on top of that, most of the duck is under water! You can waste a lot of money shooting at floating ducks. Good hunt and good video. Enjoyed it. Stay safe.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! Those teal are definitely tough to finish off on the water, gotta get lucky and send a pellet through the brain, spine, or heart which are all pretty tiny targets. With Rue breaking on that bird though I didn't have any other option unfortunately
Mainly how duck or skin on breasts and legs when they’re fat like they were down there! Hopefully I’ll have time to this off-season to film some cooking stuff
I was using my Old Town Discovery 119 on this hunt. I just pulled the kayak through the water since I had it loaded up with decoys so Rue just walked the shoreline in. If I had to paddle to this spot I would've put all the decoys in a jet sled and had Rue in the back of the kayak

Completely agreed! I’m sure I could’ve pulled off a shoreline blind setup in this spot but there shots would’ve been 30 yards instead of 15-20

So he’s giving advice, good advice at that, and he automatically can only be credible if he makes RUclips videos? Yeah…no

Great hunting video, as usual, the dog was amazing.
Thanks Nasser! Rue is a fun girl to hunt with!
Another incredible video. Keep up the great videos buddy. Really enjoy watching them.
Thanks Maurice! Got a couple more from SD that I'm really excited to release!
I always removed the sling as I had some experiences with entanglement. Lots of teals you got there. Delicious birds to eat.

Much appreciated!
Wasting a whole box of shells on a green wing is crazy 😂😂😂😂 you got a dog for a reason
Lol it was only 7 shells, still way too many but not even close to a whole box. I couldn’t let her retrieve that birds because she broke
Tighten that sling up when in the kayak!!!!!
I need to get one that's a little easier to detach, that way I can just take it off when I'm laying out!
Welcome to paradise. The best part about SD is the restriction of non res hunters so it’s not like ND.

I appreciate it! It's a Old Town Discovery 119
Zombie teal! Tough little buggers sometimes!
They're not much of a target when they're on the water!
Nice job Thomas

What are all the decoys u are using in this vid?
great vid, I am new at this and trying to understand what is that attached to the bottom of your barrel? I cant seem to get any ifo on that. cheers
Thank you very much! That's a Shotkam on the underside of my barrel

Yeah I’ll be back home for Christmas so hopefully I’ll be able to hit the river as long as the conditions are right!
Good hunt what part N S E W I have hunted north Dakota devil's lake area 10 years thinking south Dakota or Kansas
We were hunting the eastern side, from what I saw in my travels over there you really can’t go wrong with any part of the state though!
