It's been a rough week at Warner Bros. Discovery as animation is at the center of another big content purge. Various Cartoon Network and Warner Bros Animation projects were taken off streaming and digital distribution overnight without any involvement from creatives or their executives. From Aquaman to Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs, many of these series and movies were wiped without a second thought. For shows reliant on being HBO Max originals (Fungies, Tig N Seek, Summer Camp Island), the sudden move is even more damaging. If Zaslav cancels Our Flag Means Death, you know it's a sign.

The pure irony of the Warner/Discovery Vs. Animation situation is the fact Zazlav (and the people who support his ideas) thinks everything he's doing will help "save the company big money."
But as a recent stock report has shown us; after pulling out/cancelling so many projects, the company has lost 3 billion dollars...which sounds pretty dang huge, in my book. This coupled with the fact that all the animators and creators that have been cut are now suing Zazlav for what he did is just making things worse instead of better

True, at this rate, Warner bros Discovery is going to go bankrupt.

Zazlav has even stated "Oh I didn't do this"
Haha yeah right, you Zazlav have started the HBOlocaust. Discriminating against animators, great job.

The animation industry (and really, all popular entertainment to a degree) is in such dire need of some *major* interventions and shake-ups. This, the Netflix layoffs, and a couple other recent examples show capitalism has hit the point where - as you mention here - the hammer can just be dropped on all this shit without any second thought or sense of empathy, and they become completely misguided as to what makes something the next big success. It's just all so depressing to think about, man.

      I always say this.
If you ever want to make a cartoon, stick with webtoons. If you ever want to watch or save a cartoon, stick with DVDs, Wcoforever or B98.

Emmanuel Acho (political and social activist/ author of “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man”): “Equality is not a finish line to be crossed, but a road to be travelled.”
I think that’s a philosophy that can apply to animation as well, since, as you stated in this video, this #NewDeal4Animation is not going to be a silver bullet that magically puts an end to the stigmas that the medium has constantly been subject to. Definitely calling out Warner Bros. and HBO Max are vital to keeping the medium and its creators alive and thriving, and to try and ensure that other studios/streaming platforms don’t do the same. But even then, the philosophy that “animation is an art form for all” is one that must still prevail. We can certainly acknowledge and appreciate the places where it gets the respect and recognition it deserves, while still raising our voices whenever the medium gets trampled on or has the rug pulled out from under it, like the case was with these platforms recently.

I’m so sick of seeing creators and artists of animated series or animation as a medium always constantly getting shit on & disrespected by those within the entertainment industry. This Warner Brothers merger Tax write-off is such a great middle finger & mess in terms of so many promising and potential animated shows including their creators being cuffed and treated like this. Any lover or fan of animation should be pissed about this constant shitting on animation creators along with the shows they’ve worked so hard on & put so much passion into their works...to get fucked like this. Yet again another example of corporate greed killing off creatively as well as out-of-touch executives making crap decisions just to cut production or make a fast buck off of a product that they can easily commercialize off of. I swear this constant shitting on and treating animation as a lesser medium /storytelling art form then live-action truly makes me so pissed.

Animation deserves more respect. And David Zaslav should be fired.

I was planning on subscribing to HBO Max once shows like Prince Ivandoe, Invincible fight girl, the new Gumball and others but with all this Corporate junk going on I'm worried that it might not be worth it or even the shows going on past a few seasons.

Unfortunately my country (that been Ireland) doesn't sell TV Shows digitally, only movies. So aside from Netflix, Paramount+ (which is lacking on content compared to the US iteration), Apple TV+ (which I don't have as I'm not a fan of Apple as a company), Amazon Prime & Disney+, its pretty hard been an animation, as its hard to find stuff if its not on DVD.
There is Sky, but I ain't paying €90 a month, that's too expensive, especially with the rise of living prices going up.
There is also Now TV, which I have checked out, but I'm not a fan the service as a whole.
I have asked elsewhere as to why Ireland doesn't sell TV Shows digitally, if it has to do with some Irish law or something, or maybe Sky Ireland has exclusivity rights or something, as in the UK, you can buy TV Shows (for example, Hey Arnold) on Amazon Prime, but you can't in Ireland.
I am honestly curious if Ireland is the only country that doesn't sell TV Shows digitally, if there are other countries that don't even sell TV & Movies digitally, cause if there are, they're going to have it even worse.

I hate just how disrespected the animation medium is. It’s terrible, maybe it’ll get better as our generation gets older and replaces the older generations.
