  • A natural gas boom in the U.S. is creating much-needed jobs and keeping electricity costs low, but it's come at a high cost for some homeowners in West Virginia. ProPublica's Mayeta Clark was one of the producers of the CBSN Originals documentary "Powerless: The high cost of cheap gas," and she joined CBSN to discuss it.

Fracking is horrible, for everyone except the energy companies. Horrible.

It may be bad for the invoirment but for the time being it's not bad for my wallet or family. I've been in the oil field in Central WV for 6 years. My house is always payed for, we vacation twice a year, we always have great meals, gas in the cars, cars payed for, the Christmas season has been perfect for my kids every year I've worked in the oil field. My point is my family has enjoyed the fruits of the labor. Oil and gas may be bad but it's been pretty damn good to me.

@@bencaldwell4820 I hear you. But that oil and gas is destroying the planet for your childen and your children's children. Short term benefit for devastating long term effects.

Well tje boom will last about 7 years and after the big companies and government has tramples all your rights and land the move on and the job market falls again. This is what happened in North central Texas.

West Virginia needs it bad but compensate the home owners. Like my grandkids. Everyone has to sacrifice something for everyone else. I knew the producer wasn’t from America . To smart.
