the "silence" conversation would be great. i had a big moment for my character last night and one of our guys left and went to the bathroom during it. it kind of took the wind out of the moment because he didn't care. in his deference we didnt think the conversation was going to go the way it did but still

10:28 Hmm for those moments I will say “I’m going to try something and see if it works so let me try.” And then I will do the thing. Does it work? Not always. But I have found that more often than not, they do and the rest of the party is grateful for it. However, I’m not known to be reckless. I’m known for being tactical and often make tactical characters (because I find it difficult not to play one). For this reason, I believe my parties will often allow me to take those risks with barely any protests. Of course I check in too but that isn’t until after. My groups are pretty good about letting you play out characters, even their stupid or risky traits however. And for my teaching group I have pulled back a lot on commenting or reminding them of their stuff during their turns (more suggestions of “if you want to do a non damage move, you can shove or grapple” or “remember you have silvery barbs” or “you have uncanny dodge if you want to reduce that damage” and so on, but more teaching moments than take over). With my pulling back on that part there has been more leeway in others feeling they shouldn’t push their own ways onto another player. In fact, one of my teaching moments for my teaching group was when I was having my character deescalate a situation and another character was making it worse. The teens (which is why this is a learning game) were confused on what to do and asked me. So I outlined that I was deescalating with my crowd control spells and that other player was not with their damage spells. I asked each which direction they would prefer and reminded them that they didn’t have to lean either way or agree and could try something else entirely. In the end, they asked what they could do to deescalate because they wanted information. I helped each decide what their classes and spell lists could be used to accomplish that with and the escalating player (the other adult) opted to let them at it and stop antagonizing. They then played “bad cop” for the interrogation later so it still felt in character. Either way, none of us stopped the other and I had each come to their own decision and all I offered was a set of suggestions they could try or do something else entirely. Again, this is a teaching table though. I do not usually play at tables that otherwise have people doing things by committee or with too much suggestion from me. In fact, I only once did so at another table and it’s because our Paladin forgot he could shove and I mentioned it in passing since he couldn’t figure out what he wanted to do otherwise that wasn’t doing damage and was stressing about it. That helped and he did exactly that and that’s about the only time I have done that. Anyway, that’s my experience and thoughts on this.

Exactly, let someone try something before telling them no.

If...A player is with the group, then they can have a group discussion about it. if they aren't, they can't.

2:48 The biggest betrayal I've seen in story-telling is when a character(who had horrific rumors circulating around him) was trusted by a semi-omniscient character but it turned out everybody else was right all along. I'm lucky the story ended well, but wow did that throw me for a loop. We have a character that knows pretty much everything that is going to happen and has an incredible mind, but was blind sighted by the other character's needy emotional state and love for the omniscient character himself that he didn't see anything wrong until the last chapter.
Not saying the book 'cause that'd be major spoilers.

calling scilence is a smart mechanic. other players shouldn't be allowed to affect choices in a decision not their own. imagine in the world of the game: if you character WOULD HAVE DONE something, but is convinced not to out of game, then that's metagaming. during group moments, when it makes sense for guidance to be put onto choices, and plans to actions formed, it makes sense, but when it's a personal character moment, and in their world, no one would have spoken up, then dont let them speak up out of game.
just don't overdo it. it can be dicey, but it WILL work if you play your cards right.

16:28 "fool, I have just finished dealing with the last of your friends. And you seek to defeat me single handed? What were you holding back that you could not save them. You could not defeat me together, you will not defeat me alone. You are correct though, you are too dangerous to allow to live. If I were to allow you to escape you would return time and again with vengeance in you heart... better to snuff that flame now."

The fact that the first two clips included two D&D groups that film their sessions confuses me. Are more groups doing this now? Is this the norm in this age of look at me do this thing I used to do in my house without people watching?

I have absolutely no idea what is happening in any of these videos. Isn't TPK a team player-kill? Missing so much context I'm not even sure there are deaths in half of these.

Tpk is short for “total party kill” which means the entire party gets kill in a small time stamp like a pit trap or the bbeg (big bad evil guy) kills off every character one by one, if not faster than that
