Nice! Thanks for the video. I have LYRA8 and now Field Kit. Modular cables are driving me crazy and the mental effort required to master my setup. LYRA and Field Kit are a relief!
Damn right it is! There's just something seriously special about it. I actually have the regular non-FX Field Kit on its way to me right now. It's a bit of a different beast, but they are supposed to work well together.
Happy to see that you've snagged a Koma FX! I've been thinking about adding one to my setup. Great video editing! Thoughts on the microfreak? I've been thinking about picking one up...
Thanks, Ryan! Your videos were really helpful in pushing me towards the Koma gear. The FX is seriously great. Such a mess in the best possible way. Actually, I also just got the regular Field Kit! So I'll be spending time with it a lot in the coming days. The Microfreak? Love the thing. Though that love did take a couple of weeks to happen. It really is quite different to most synths out there. Honestly, what initially drew me to it (as well as my love for small, cheap synths) was the idea of 4 Mutable Plaits with full controls and a keyboard, but now I have one (well, 2 actually...) I can tell you it is so much more. I'd been up and down over the strange touch keyboard. Wasn't sure about it at first, then disliked to the point of removal (did a video on that). Then I decided to give it another go, and now the keyboard stays. It's so expressive. Being able to program what the touch keys can control, not just the notes, but almost anything else on the synth is just awesome. Leaning on in the "keys" and hearing the filter open, or the LFO speed or slow, or send the timbre or harmonics into haywire territory with just a little extra contact on the keys is just wonderful. I really feel like the instrument and I are working together. I got both of mine as open box or ex-demo, but even at full price it's a whole lot of wonderful instrument. Body feels a bit lightweight, but man, the sounds and control help me forget all that! Any other questions,.go ahead! And thanks again!
I had never heard of that up until you just mentioned it now. Actually, I guess I had seen them around but I haven't really paid any attention so I'm reading all about them now. It looks oddly powerful. As interesting as it looks, I don't know if the raspberry pi rabbit hole is one I need to go down right now! I just received the regular non-FX Field Kit so I need to spend a bit of time with that before I worry about other things! But yeah, it definitely looks really cool.
@@thedigitallost Totally, one device at a time! :) Norns looks mind boggling to start with, really confusing. But thankfully, it isnt at all, its the easiest thing in the world. Unless one dives into the programming side, which I have zero intention of doing. Just plug it in, load an app, read what the controls are and away we go. Its an incredible machine, just a small computer dedicated to audio/MIDI tasks, no messing about with any computer stuff tho. No rabbit hole needed, and the forum/makers are fantastically helpful. Recommended if you ever get the itching for another device. Really looking forward to seeing/reading your thoughts on the Field Kit when you get it. Did you go for the expansion pack too? All the sensors?
Oh yeah, I have no intention of getting involved in any kind of computer programming! But this really does look interesting and I'll definitely check out some demos and maybe even have a look at the online groups. I got the Field Kit a couple of days ago and they've only just started playing around with it. I'm really liking everything so far. I also got the eurorack panel so I'm going to switch that over and pop it in my rack. I don't have any expansion packs yet, but that is coming soon. When I ordered the Field Kit no one seemed to have the expansion pack in stock, but the day I got it suddenly a couple popped up online... Oh well. Maybe I'll just get more used to be Field Kit itself and then look at getting any expansion packs. But absolutely getting the additional sensors, etc will be a thing. A definite thing!
Thank you so much! The number of samples used across all pads is 80. So, there are eight pads available and you can split up the amount of different samples however you please so long as you don't pass 80. Oh, and no more than 64 samples per pad if this makes any sense! 80 might not sound like a whole lot, but the strings multi-sample that I use in this video is only made up of 10 samples, so I still have 70 to play around with across all the pads. It's much a similar set up with the polyphony. It's 24 note polyphony, but that is across all eight pads, not per pad, and you can use those notes however you wish. I think it's mostly to do with the processing power. I was surprised that there were limitations such as these, but then I look at other much larger, more expensive and more power-hungry synthesizers and they have similar or even more restrictive sample and polyphony limits so I'm actually fine with it. Also, a main reason I went with the Bitbox Micro over the full sized one, besides the micro having midi out, is that the regular full sized one has the same limitations! So basically I'm more than happy to have "only" eight pads rather than 16 because I have the same processing power and the same limitations as the larger more expensive model. I hope this helps and makes some kind of sense! If you have any further questions, or any clarification on anything, just let me know. I'm more than happy to try and help. As I said in the video, I'll be doing a deeper look at this module soon, much like my Pamela's New Workout shallow dive tutorial I did a little while ago. Thanks again!
Beautiful. I like the extra additions that build on what the FK FX is already bringing. Lovely sounds.
Thank you very much!

Thanks! The cables can be a pain! All worth it in the end though! Cheers!
Beautiful drone! I must set my alarm clock for 3am tomorrow and see what happens...
Thank you! Yeah, 3am is a good time to be alone with some drones.
Yeah, that Koma is really cool!

Have you looked into the Norns Shield btw? I think you might get a kick out of it if you dont know it.
I had never heard of that up until you just mentioned it now. Actually, I guess I had seen them around but I haven't really paid any attention so I'm reading all about them now.

Amazing!! How many multisample instruments can run at the same time in the beatbox micro? One for each pad? Thanks
Thank you so much!

@@thedigitallost thanks so much for the detailed explanation! :) looking forward to yours next post :)
Any time! I'm always happy to help.
