As a lot of you asked why I did not use a rebreather:
    1) I am not a big fan of solo-Rebreather diving.
    2) Main reason is, that the wreck is too narrow to penetrate it with stages - even with the D12 it was really narrow, So with a Rebreather that would mean being in there with NO bailout. that´s a NO-Go :)

I knew you would have a very good logical reason for not using CCR.

Amazing. It’s like Shadow Divers in more modern times. I’d love to see a video showing the process from beginning to end Or better a book. Like how you heard, how you researched and what clues got you to the location. This is Amazing.

    Hi Achim,
Thank you for sharing this. I am happy to see that it turnend into a success finally!
Even if you did not reach your funding goal I would encourage you to try it again for your next projects! As a big fan, I will support you next time as well. Thank you for taking us with you on this exploration!
I am not a technical diver, so please excuse my question: would that not be a dive to use a rebreather? What the reasons for using an open circuit? I got some ideas ( space in wreck during penetration, 2 h boat trip, required bail out) but probably I am total wrong.
    Thank you so much!
    Björn

Achim the coin is actually Czech not German. 50 haléřů was zinc coin used during Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. We were under German controll so that's why the german label. But it was not used in Geramny. Coat of arms of the Czech Republic was lion with two tails. And still is.

HI Petr, thanks for that - I actually read about that as well - but it still explains why a german had one. Great to see you guys do research this as well - thats how we all learn!

Hi Achim, and thank you for the very detailed description of the dives! Really fascinating to see! I'm curious though to hear your rationale behind going open circuit on these dives instead of closed circuit, since I believe that would have increased the bottom time and given more time for penetration? It's been a great journey to follow your videos on finding this wreck, I'm hoping for more videos in the future! Take care!

The coin that Achim considers as german is actually Czech. It comes from Protectorate Bohmen und Mahren, the occupied territory of Czechia. It means that the German officer had to came from there. Italy in 1944 was the place where "Vládní vojsko" was deployed. Vládní vojsko were limited and by germans not trusted armed forces of Protectorate czech government.

    • @donr3407

Rebreathers are too bulky so not recommended for narrow passages especially ones that have not been previously cleaned up.

Congratulations! Did you get to confirm the boat name? Out of curiosity and since there were human remains inside are there any further procedures id attempt etc? Or its just declared as grave and thats it.
Very interesting indeed and congrats once more! Oh and there is the little almeria detail and Portugal is misspelled that others mentioned.

Hi Achim I watched it a third time
It is like a script out of a James bond movie !
In the last message I quoted a Gouvernmemt should give you backing
Or like in Canada they will shut you down
here in Canada they passed laws years ago
if you found a ship wreck you have to report it
There is still over 1000 missing wrecks here on the great lakes
Back in the day my buddies that work on the gas boat
One if them a gas line diver with over 6000 dives at the time just by the nature of the job came across a missing shipwreck
14 miles from shore he took pictures and two artifacts to prove it was the ship in question and reported it
all he wanted to do was be part of the team that did the survey of the wreck
All he got was a court order he wasn't suppose to go within 3 miles of the wreck
All it did was piss him and every body off !
These are the best divers with the best gear they could ready make a difference in surveying ship wrecks
    Now
If any body wants to know where a ship wreck is it is in the lake !
Since them they have found 28
    Missing shipwrecks
And I have found 9 and my wife found a ww2 airplane
(She was driving the boat I was watching the sounder )
Excellent dive ! Excellent video !
Do your own thing your way!
    Have a great day !

  • @carllafrance5510
    @carllafrance5510 2 года назад

Hi Achim I just watched it again
My first reaction was when the boat was sinking they probably shot the prisoner in the head so he wouldn't try to escape
Now with the broken hand cuffs they look pretty weak the theory is they might have had the prisoner hand cuffed to something when the shelling started he knew they were comming for him
he broke free over powered the guard and shot the guard in the head the skull with the bullet hole could be British
    DNA could tell ?
    Heads up guys!
See how Achim did the dive !
He was in a small boat with a dog and another person up against the bank so as not to draw attention !
Not in a multi million dollar research vessel that would of stuck out like a sore thumb
    He dove alone
If any body seen him in the water they would of passed it off of him diving for lobster
By diving alone on a new wreck he didn't have to worry about anybody else down there getting tangled in something
He did a recon dive first to locate the wreck
On the second dive he took the time to rig and later retrieve proper penetration lines in case vis went to zero
Note he only used two beams of his 3 beam flash
    Light
As he noted he sacrificed bottom time diving with open circuit instead of ccr because it was safer for this dive
He respected the bodies at there grave sites
Also by diving alone he is the only one who knows where it is
Achim do what you like exploring the wreck
Until some point the government will either hand and with you
    Documenting the wreck
Or like here in Canada they would just shut you down
    Have a great day !
