I was adopted by a black woman. Strong beautiful woman best momma I ever had . Well I ended up growing up with a accent it didn't suit well with prejudice people. Always yelling at me reminding me I'm not black . I know I ain't black but she adopted me when I was nothing but two years old . Can't change what I know and who I grew up around . Got bullied a lot by whites and blacks for it. Still don't care because I had the opportunity to be raised by someone who loves me unconditionally. Taught me a lot of things even accepting myself for who I am . I grew up exactly the way momma wanted me to be . Started my own business and bought momma a home outside of drama cities . She got her garden and livestock like she wanted too and never have to hear guns popping again . There's to much ugly in this world . We all siblings under god despite race .
Smilingbright981, you should have been around white people as well as black people to explore your white side.
Thank you for sharing your story. Your mum sounds really lovely and so do you.
being bullied for having a loving mom is so weird
@@VanillaIceCream-d2w I was bullied because I didn't fit in . Everyone loved momma she had a heart of gold . I didn't fit in with blacks or whites . I admit I did have more black friends than whites though . Tried getting to know the white side some where ok to be around but man some are just flat out mean . Got called white trash , monkeys hooker , all kinds of mess . I liked being called a cracker and a snow bunny better than half the stuff I was called by my own. Didn't know who was going to jump me first a group of whites or group of blacks . It was messed up back then . Nobody liked interracial families when I was younger. Couldn't trust the men on either side so I ended up marrying and having kids with a Guatemalan. Even that wasn't cool in people's eyes . Got called names for that too. But as I grew I took myself and momma out of all that stress and never looked back. To much ugly in this world that's for sure
Happy for you and your mom
Why does something have to be a black thing or a white thing. You're only limiting yourself. I love the way you responded to this and I love your braids. Keep being you 💯
It is really limiting :( it’s sad
What I've heard is that black women have been told their hairstyles aren't okay for many different reasons since they were forced to America, and only recently have white people decided they're cool. Now they, the people who once said black hair was bad, are trying to enjoy the hairstyles with none of the hardship. Similar in a way to how glasses and freckles have both been mocked but have become trendy. I see both sides tbh.
@@whelkpeopleofdoom understandable. but blocking a certain race from using a hairstyle is racist. not only that but it will not fix the hair discrimination problem black people face.
@@diahoney_gatekeeping the hair is essentially a way of “payback” because of the history. So sure it won’t fix the hair problem but gatekeeping it for a couple decades and telling a white person their not allowed to wear that hairstyle like they have done to us will give back what they’ve dealt out. Plus black people wearing braids proudly is a form of reclamation in that again we used to be shamed for wearing braids. Kinda like how only black people can say the N word as a reclamation of the word that was used against them for years.
@@royallyawesome9596that makes sense, but what does gatekeeping actually accomplish? Nothing.

I remember before I even knew what racism was, I was playing a dress up game and I used braids because I thought they were cute, and some person started yelling at me, and slandering me calling me racist for it, poor little me was so confused 😭☠️
Glad you had the heart to fight against racism! Were lucky it's not so much of a problem now, but that doesn't mean it's gone yet!

So I was buying something at the school mini market on my way to class one day, and the cashier was a white lady. She was all like, "I really love your hair! I always wanted to try that style!" I raised my eyebrow and asked her why she couldn't. She said it was because she thought it wouldn't look right because she was white. I said, "girl, and? If you want some braids, go get some braids!"

She didn’t deserve the fight but she is literally trying to be black like box braids are PACIFICLY FOR BLACK PEOPLES
@@ToAy-so5nf it's people like u that made those girls so paranoid and hurt they resorted to violence. im white/chinese and i grew up in a predominantly black/south asian area so ive dealt w my fair share of bullying for my race, yet the one thing that was always constant was that the people bullying me would express some form of hurt over the unending individual and systemic discrimination they would be subject to anytime they left our neighbourhood.
theyd tell me that (because im white) id try to hurt them so they had to get me first, or that they were attempting to get revenge for the abuse a loved one of theirs suffered through - they were scared and upset living in a world that repeatedly beat them down, so they lashed out first in order to protect and/or vindicate themselves. for every 1 black person that bullied me for my race, i had 10 defending and protecting me against them... meanwhile my black and brown peers had to go out of their way to avoid half our city's neighbourhoods because of the rise in racist violence; their mothers forcing them to come straight home from school and avoid going out for months as a result of racist riots.
it's completely unfair to highlight a couple examples of a group of people acting out and then make a generalisation against that group as a whole - *ESPECIALLY* when the group in question has been subjected to centuries of torment and horror because of something as inane and petty as their appearance and ethnicity. u dont get to poke at someone and then call them crazy when they lash out. it's never okay to hurt innocents - especially in such a violent and traumatic manner - but lets not act like 1. that group of girls represents the billions of black people living innocently themselves and 2. that there was no logical explanation for why those girls acted out. even if their reasons werent inherently-justified, those reasons *do* exist and are founded by real hurt and mistreatment that those girls wouldve definitely lived through, so trying to paint them as just "irrational", "thuggish" or whatever other stereotype u want to ascribe to them is intentionally-ignorant at best and downright malicious at worst.
the world would be a hell of a lot safer if people like u stopped inciting violence through your rhetoric. that poor girl they spoke of in their original comment wouldve never had to go through that had people like *u* not stoked the flames and built all of that tension in the first place

Just let people live🤦🏼♀️if the girl wants to wear braids, so be it!
I grew up going to schools with mostly Black girls... I was one of 2 white girls in my year, with a sprinkle of other minorities. I've always thought braids were beautiful, and my mother still chuckles about times I proudly brought dropped beads home as little treasures. I _detest_ the kind of mindset that tries to gatekeep _braids._ Many "white" cultures had braids, but besides that, one shining beauty of the modern world is the innovation that springs from the mixing of cultual traditions. I do not wear braids... for sensory reasons, I don't think I'm well suited. But I love seeing her wear them so proudly (neon! 🎉), and seeing the lovely reaction on the left ❤️
I _will_ thank my Black sisters for holding on to the art, same for bonnets and turbans and headscarves (covering hair for sleep or day would have been extremely common historically, regardless of race). My white father may scoff at my headscarf, but I will wear it anyway, and thank the ppl who did a better job remembering what to do (and of course with unique ways too)

I remember when I was in elementary some kids got in trouble because a white kid was getting their hair braided in a style like this on the playground. So strange to me why you would get angry at a child for just having fun.
That is so not on the school to dictate what can be considered 'cultural appropriation'.
While I don't tend to agree with that mentality at all, it's also a lot more complicated than people wanna admit, so full of double standards that the entire concept falls apart way to quickly. But, I think that if a parent wants to teach their children that certain things aren't OK for them based on race, then that's on them and them alone! NOT the school, ever. They are way too judgmental of kids.
School employees need to keep themselves out of it when it comes to *any* fashions, with the few exceptions of like 'ok, your private parts are showing, or your wearing clothes condoning cannibalism and drugs, or an obvious gang symbol... That's gotta stop immediately'. But anything beyond that, they really should just shut up.
The one time I remember the school staff having an issue with hair and it was justifiable, it was to do with the hair beads on one kid. See, all the little black girls had hair beads, it was fine (all the white kids wanted them too, but, we weren't really allowed and never understood why not lol). But I remember ONE little black girl who's beaded hair was a problem. Because she had more beads in there than hair. *huge*, solid plastic beads, along with pony beads and everything. I remember her whole head just looked like a shiny rainbow, and it took awhile to actually find where her hair was under all that. And she played actively. Which meant that sometimes she'd fall on the grass field while playing sports, or she'd miss the jump rope, fall, and hit her head... which as one might expect, having your entire head covered in balls of solid plastic is not gonna soften a landing! So she would cry, and school staff didn't know know what to do other than ask her mom to tone down the beads. But instead, the mom would make a huge thing out of it everytime it happened, scream about them being racist. So they had to say 'look, ma'am. She's hurting herself everytime she goes out to the playground. If we can't compromise on the gratuitous amount of heavy beads in her hair, than maybe she can just not play soccer or jump ropes anymore because we're not trying to ban the hairstyle at all! We just don't want her crying in the nurses office everyday when she could be having fun or learning.'

Yes. As a proud human mutt, I am very proud of my gypsy roots. I have been trying to perfect my gypsy dreads for years. That was some time I have trouble. Not with the dreads, but how I felt about wearing them. My own child had made me feel so ashamed of my own culture. First it was that my dread where cultural appropriation from "the African" culture. I tried to made they understand that dreads were something worn in many cultures. But that was not good enough. I tried to help them understand that African has many nations, and therefore many cultures. My child left in a huff. I have had time to heal many things since then. Sending love

Once she got back to white ass England, her friends and people from her school/town started treating her differently, and was told to put the braids out since it made them “uncomfortable” for a white girl to wear it. Like holy shit.
And this white guy replied and told her how disgusting it was for her to wear braids in the first place.
Which video was it? Also, there's idiots in every group, unfortunately.
box braids and aa hairstyless ARE SOOO different then dutch braids. context matters. braids are culturally significant in ways to a’a’s. Braids on black ppl in the US have been demonized and white washed. have yall EVER heard of the crown act? prbly not. i think its important for ppl to understand why black ppl are upset bc stuff we beeeeeeeeeeeeen doing for centuries we have been deemed ghetto or even policed but now when a yt woman does it..its cute/trendy. thats the sick part. i wish ppl didnt speak on things they dont know. LMAO
🙄
Hardly anyone’s seen as ‘ghetto’ for hair. Ppl are seen as ghetto for always wanting to fight, getting up in ppls faces for no reason, clapping their hands aggressively and a lot more. It can happen with any race but it’s not cus of hair

A lot of people are confused with the words Cultural Appropriation. Cultural Appropriation is when a person who is from different culture takes from a specific culture such as traditional hairstyles, foods, traditional dances, traditional clothing etc and then renames it and says that they are the ones who invented and came up with it when they didn't. Someone wearing a different culture's clothes, hairstyles, etc is not cultural appropriation it is cultural appreciation. Please know the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation.
@@humanlydum_b281just because you never seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happens. Everything Us Black people do is demonize. There was even a time where gold colored jewelry was nicknamed “ ghetto gold “ simply because Black people wore them.
I love how calm she is even though she been through this a gazzillion times
Btw i love ur bonnet :3
Thats dumb, its just hair, hair is for everyone, you can be white and have braids, its not like its racist, braids are really cool and its a part of a culture, we SHARE cultures on a daily, food, clothes, shoes, hair, everything!
Dreads are ubiquitous across cultures throughout history. Celts had dreadlocks 12,000+ years ago.
Side note i love your bonnet
When I was like 4 I had a black girl braid my hair like that, I had cute pink colors. My classmate at 11 had her braids done all the time, because she liked it that way.
Was so weirded out when I saw kids screaming that this is racist...
Not every act related to a different culture is inherently cultural appropriation...
I wouldn't consider someone just wearing my nations traditional clothes or hairstyles a hate crime, and I am really sensitive about my culture due to a history of legitimate appropriation...
#StopHairRacism #StopGatekeepingHair #ItsOnlyHair #StopTheHate CC you’re amazing. So much love to you darling.
Also, if you're going to talk about this beautiful woman's looks, don't bring your religious views into it. That's just as bad as the hair racism.
Hey man, I just assume she MIGHT be an witch. You can't make an Christian go against their religion to spread the truth about witchcraft
You obviously don't know about how dangerous $atanic practices are. This has nothing to do with race
@@ms.pirate I said it's just as bad. Not that it has to do with race. Just because your beliefs make you think something is evil, doesn't mean everyone else has to too. You don't need to bring the whole vibe down with your backhanded compliments to a stranger.
Revelation 21:8 KJV
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
how is judging someone based on something they actually chose to think the same as judging them for the skin they are born with?
"I hope you have the day you deserve" is such a clever way to finish. It doesn't add more hate while still making the other understand you won't take their crap.
Anthropologically speaking all peoples originated from Africa millennia ago. Braided hair was a Viking thing. There were probably black vikings as well as white vikings. So let’s face it, it’s just hair. There’s so much going on in the world, why does this matter to people.
The vikings hair always looked ugly
@@TeresaVanPelt-to2fx either way, we’re all people. Segregation just creates hatred and loathing. It’s not needed. Nothing wrong with appreciating something from any culture. ❤️

I am super white and have light blonde hair that goes down to my butt. My hair is super fine, so tangles very easily and when I suffered postpartum depression, it truly felt like I could not deal with it. I knew if I let it go, it would become unmanageable and I considered chopping it off, even though I knew I would later regret it. Luckily, a black friend came over and insisted on putting it in braids so I could have a break from dealing with it. We were good friends and our different heritage made zero impact on our friendship. She redid those braids every 2 weeks for a few months. Those braids were a lifesaver and got me through until my postpartum passed a few months later, when I could handle my normal hair care routine. Not only did she save my long hair, the regular visits to rebraid it provided much needed emotional support and time away from new motherhood. This was nearly 20 years ago, and nobody gave me any crap about “cultural appropriation”, which would have not gone over well with my friend. She used knowledge from her culture and experiences to help a friend and I was incredibly grateful. I still have my long hair and doubt I will ever cut it, partly because of her.
I don’t understand this new movement to create division amongst Americans, based on race. It makes zero sense to me, because we should want to share our heritage. I love this channel and the refusal of hateful rhetoric that some people insist on spreading. We are all humans and Americans, regardless of how much melanin our skin contains.
Imagine hating people because they love your culture and embracing it in an appropriate way... also Viking, Native American and some Asian country wear braids in their culture too
Im mix, ive never had anyone bother me for wearing braids, but there's always a little nagging voice in the back of my head wondering if im "black enough" for certain hair styles, even though i literally need to wear them because my hair is textured and it gets matted up really bad if i don't. Let people wear braids, its not that big of a deal and in certain cases its down right colorist.
Who is this woman? I want to find her stuff.
i love seeing this! i’m slavic and braids are in my culture
I still find it funny when certain people lose hair because of corn rows
I so love this not because it was about the braids but because it was about spreading love not hate and to stop hating people just because of the color of their skin. Bravo, young lady. 👏👏👏
yall have no idea how badly i want to do goddess/boho braids but i am so scared of being confronted just for wearing it 💀
@@themindeclectic9821it won’t matter to them, most black people think they can’t be racist to white peoples, and yes I’ve literally seen comments and videos of them stating that upon others request
Portraying black hairstyles as a “trend” or something cool and new that you totally just found & using that to be popular: ❌
Wearing braids because they’re protective to your hair when installed correctly, a big help when it comes to managing your hair, and as a way to connect to another culture and learn more about it: ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
My family thinks it's racist to wear braids when your white, let's just say it's a hairstyle and nothing is wrong with it, so what if they don't have 4c, kinky hair, it's a fucking hairstyle, not a cultural appropriation restrict, leave people tf alone and stay mad🙂↔️
