That time is in the past, the situation was solved, but there is an interesting segment of people are now insisting on punishing law-abiding people for no rational reason. Removing guns from a society is proven to make that society safer so there is more than enough rational reasoning behind removing guns from a society. In Canada gun ownership is a privilege for things like Collecting, Hunting and other sporting purposes.
Self Defense with guns in Canada will get you in a lot of legal trouble.
In the United States it is a "Foundational Right" recognized by our government and the "core right" is "self defense(US v Heller, US Supreme Court).
My local sheriff/city police chief strongly encourage civilian gun ownership for self defense and readily issue carry permits so that when I'm out in public, I'm able to defend myself and others.
2 percent of US Counties account for half of our gun crimes.
70 percent of gun crimes are directly/indirectly a by product of both the illegal drug trade/gangs.
    Broken families
    Create
    Broken individuals
    Which
    Destroys communities
Of course gun control isn't about
    Public safety
The real purpose is to control people.
    It Canada, people are subjects
    Subject to government control
In America, we are sovereign citizens
We are supposed to control government.

Registered owners vs unmarked or smuggled weapons. Do they destroy the handguns they confiscate. Its only a matter of time till knife crime goes up. Just look at the data from countries that already went through it. Has any country succeeded in reducing gun violence… a state or community?

Not a Canadian, so I won't say much, as I don't have a dog in the fight. However, as once stated by Ben Franklin-"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Canadians therefore, if threatened by external forces, DO NOT deserve the assistance of the United States. Neither monetary or military.

“It’s complicated” is code speak for I don’t have a good answer for why this law will ever work. And what that really means is the reason that we are using for why this bill became law is not the real reason for why we passed this law.

Frankly, I'm shocked that this wasn't a hit piece on the legal firearms community, although the stats are conveniently being left out.
Seems someone is attempting to keep their journalistic integrity while getting ideological push back.
+99% of gun crime is committed with an illegally smuggled gun by an often repeat offender. Licenced gun owners are actually less likely to be involved in crime than your average unlicenced citizen.
Had 100% of the proposed bans and legislation been passed, +99% of gun crimes would have still happened.
Going after criminals on the other hand would lower crime across the board: theft, car jacking, fraud, assault, stabbings, home invasions etc etc and yes, shootings because criminals will be criminals.
So...do we destroy a part of the economy, over step property rights and waste money? Or actually address the problem?

Just look at the statistics for criminal use of handguns before and since the UK banned them

    • @fishgutz4272
      @fishgutz4272 2 месяца назад

Can't rely on UK crime reported stats because the UK only reports convictions, not crime reports. They also count multiple victim homicides as a single homicide, and then, only upon conviction. Unsolved murders are not counted in the crime stats.

Canada needs to smarten up on the laws and the antiquated ideas about "guns". More youth programs in low socio-economic areas and tougher laws need be enacted, not punishments on those obeying the law.

one glance at some countries of the European Union (and the UK pre-Brexit) clearly shows that outlawing guns doesn't prevent crime in general.
The gun itself isn't the problem at all; but social dissatisfaction, lack of education and social cohesion are.
Poverty, unemployment and substance abuse (incl. alcohol) aren't factors per se, but can surely contribute on a larger scale.
By indiscriminately banning firearms altogether, especially in countries like Canada (or Australia for that matter), the problem of street crimes and gang violence is just blatantly not affected at all.

    • @pacman3556
      @pacman3556 3 месяца назад

actually comparing countries in the EU proves that strict laws does work. The top five EU countries combined don't even come close to the gun violence we see in a country like the US that has little to no laws and a vast supply of guns.
And the gun absolutely is the problem. You can't shoot people if you don't have a gun.
Also your example of Australia that does ban guns and has strict laws also proves that strict laws and banning guns works.

  • @TheDalyman

A ban just proves the punishments havent been fitting the crime. The ban sounds definitive but its ultimately pointless when aimed at the people who do not listen or care.
