  • Hi this is Frank, today we look at adding more stability to the Windcamp support for the IC-705, by adding a second attachment point.
As many have experienced, the Windcamp mount gets loose over time and needs to be retightened.
Disclaimer: Now this a beta version and is by no means a final solution, it is a starting point on which we can improve.
By adding an arm and a tightening knob, we can leverage on this second attachment point and actually firmly lock the Windcamp position.
We can raise and lower the position by loosening the bigger knob. The original attachment screw then becomes a pivot point and does not need to be retightened.
As you set the position, we can see the un-even surface which may induce wobbling. At the fully angled position the mount is stable enough to operate the radio and the Windcamp will not loosen, which is the goal of this modification.
The individual parts are shown here, they are 3D printed and if you are interested they are available on Thingverse (See Update note below) if you search for “Peovi Windcamp arm” (see details in the description) Again this is not perfect but it certainly does lock the Windcamp to the set position.
The assembly is very simple, screw the arm on top of the Peovi mount, insert the sliding retainer and screw the big knob, and the small cap on top of the screw and you are done.
A quick video, it may give ideas on which to build or improve your Windcamp installation, if you can improve the design or want to comment I hope you like this and thanks for watching, 73!

UPDATE 2023-06-07: The 3D print STL files are no longer available.
