Stede is actually quite the competent pirate captain, or knows how to appear so. He’s really badass. He just doesn’t do violence well. I look forward to season 2 when he continues to play the vulnerable posh boy until the attacking party realise too late and he brings out a unique crazy dark side that works for his rep and character.
That moment was so satisfying! Up to that point Stede put up with CJ’s crap for Ed’s sake while CJ walked all over him, but as soon as he killed Karl, Stede was so done and he was there to defend his crew against this jackass with firm confidence. No hesitation, just GTFO. I was so proud of him. 🥹 Also, Stede’s hottest when he competently takes charge of things. ❤️

I love how Stede is this perfect mixture of being a posh bri'ish drama king, a genuinely sweet and caring leader of his crew, a sometimes oblivious but ultimately well-meaning Nice Dude[tm], a somewhat sensible "Ed, put away the gun! Bad pirate!" kind of person, a savage badass on occasion, and, as Edward so eloquently put it, a fucking lunatic.
I really hope we get more moments similar to the “unhand me or bleed” scene in season 2, It shows how much he’s changed from the beginning of the series to the end of season 1, and it was pretty badass.

This was eventually his downfall as the governor of Virginia tricked him into bording a sloop without canons but many hidden men under deck who ambushed him and cut off his head😢
