- was watching through Con O'Neill's shows the other day and absolutely love Val from Uncle, a BBC show (2014-17). He plays one of the funniest characters and embodies gender. thank u con
also coping with OFMD right now and just izzy hands in general. might make a cliff costello (cucumber) compilation at some point who knows. i am breathing ofmd help

Our Flag Means Death, a 2022 HBO Max show, created by David Jenkins and produced by Taika Waititi (who also directed the pilot), involves the Gentleman Pirate / Stede in 1717 and his misadventures as a pirate before meeting Blackbeard / Edward Teach, and then they make out

It's a lot of camera angles and putting him with taller actors I think.
I have never seen a character who wears "women's" clothes or is trans who uses he/him pronouns and it's not a joke and it's not transphobic. He's not the joke, and the way the other characters treat him makes me want to cry 🥺😍. I guess imma find this show and watch it now. Aaaaaa seeing how comfortable con is as Val and clearly is having the time of his life give me so much hope and excitement for what they might do with Izzy in OFMD.
I was pleasantly surprised about that when I saw the show! cross dressing on TV (especially comedies) have a shitty reputation for being transphobic and I'm so happy for what they did w/ Val, and was such a well rounded character

OFMD just demonstrated how much we've been sleeping on such great actors, and that them being older than the usual "handsome young stud protagonist" is not undesirable nor unattactive to younger audiences. We crave that mineral
I'm so glad you said this, because I know so many people such as myself that find older men very attractive! I was attracted to Izzy right away, and I was attracted to Val right away. Also, these older actors bring so much talent to the table. Especially those like Con who have a lot of theatre background.
He's such a fantastic actor, such a charismatic performer. No wonder he stands out in a cast full of talented people in OFMD

I saw him this year in The Batman for the first time, and then when he appeared in OFMD I recognized him immediately because there's something special about him. And now this video. I'll make sure to check out other things he's been in because he's just great

When he said "I refuse to change who I am", the pride and joy that is embodied in that statement and delivery. Brought a tear to my eye. As a trans guy, it's so rare to see a trans person in media being confident, openly happy, and proud of who they are. Con O'Neil did a fantastic job as Val

Being trans means different things to different people, some only feel right after full transition, some do not need that but however far someone goes, it is not for you to tell them how to feel and what to identify with!!!

Val was my first introduction to Con’s acting, and whilst it’s been so fun to see him appearing in OFMD and the Batman I will always scream “IT’S VAL!”
Con truly has so much range and seeing him as Val just proves that so much. The character is so wonderful and funny and loving and yet witty and sarcastic but his identity is not used for dumb jokes or anything. God, this is so perfect, thank you for uploading it. Genuinely made me laugh (and maybe cry a little, at the end)
"I was playing in punk bands before you got your first period." is still the funniest shit ever.
i really like that in that second to last scene val's there without makeup or a wig or even a super flamboyant outfit. they're just kind of bare because it's a vulnerable moment and it kind of strips the character down to the bones and emphasizes exactly what andy says ("if he doesnt do xyz then he doesnt deserve you" and i love that so much man it :,,) good moments.
I'm obsessed with Con O'Neill. We need Izzy to have this character development in season 2

I agree with the consensus that Val is beautifully written and performed. The character is just fantastic and always intriguing, I could've watched a whole series of just Val.
The dialogue in the first scene with Val and Errol is imo one of the most perfectly written and balanced pieces of dialogue. The bonding between the two vastly different characters without eithers personality having to yield to the other, the unspoken sense that Val sees a lot of himself in Errol even though they don't go down the obvious route of making Errol gay, and the women's clothing and pyjamas conversation is so deceptively deep.
The progression of val and andys relationship throughout the series is incredible

Con O'Neill has used she/her to refer to Val as well- it's not at all uncommon for people in the gay/drag community to use both he/him and she/her based on presentation/mood. (Not that Val is in drag, of course.) Obviously Val doesn't say anything in the third person, but he does use both masculine and feminine words to describe himself- Gwen's dad, not your fairy godmother, etc. edit: or, actually, better example, in the same conversation Val refers to himself as both "a guy in heels" and "more of a Cruella deVille kind of girl." for some people, those things just aren't mutually exclusive!

Just finished this show and bawled at scene with Val and Andy at the end. The growth Andy shows and the strength Val has to be himself authentically was beautiful

I had watched uncle as it was airing and got so excited when it would return, i was so happy to see con in our flag means death i knew his character would stand out by a mile!! Its so lovely to see people come across this gem and love his role, watch the whole show though because theyre all really funny characters!!
