Scott, this has to be one of the better demos I've seen for a bass amp. Thank you. I also appreciate that you didn't have to "slappa da bass" like many other demo videos to showcase its versatility. Instead, you focused on what the amp does well, which allows the bass player and instrument to create a fundamental bass tone (lacking in a lot of Class D amps). When I have the financial means, I'll be sure to pick up one of these for myself. Also, I'd be interested to see how the amp plays with different pedals.
I always say out loud, when is "insert demo player" going to play the bass and stop slapping it? Even Larry Graham only slapped occasionally; he spent most of any song playing his bass.
Still digging the OTB500? I learned Hush because I heard the bass line is this demo and was like, whooaaaa, I got play that. And now I'm itching for this amp. I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Some great demos on this amp out there, but this was by far the best. I just bought this amp and play an Epiphone Jack Casady, so was stoked when I saw you playing that in this demo. Killer playing and super informative. Just subscribed. Thanks man!
How are you liking the Terror Bass thus far? I really want one and love the tone from this review. I read in forums that Orange amps have a mushy tone that gets lost in a mix. You know how forum talk goes! Any thoughts?
Jhon Baker thanks so much man. I tried to throw it all down on this one. Song clips, isolated clips, Controls, practical usage, etc. Hopefully it gives everyone an solid idea of what does. It’s classic Orange basically!
I had the old version of this amp and loved it! Found it suited a passive bass better than an active one. Loved setting it so it would break up if you really dug in.
Clean , dirty, muffled, all great tones most guitar players and/or producers would yearn for in a bass player...And, a real bass player giving a review...
Loved the Hush! I had the Terror 1000 it was very nice. I got darker tubes and was very nice. I decided to go with the Ampeg PF 800 and it seems to give a little more authentic old school sound. But I love them all........
I love that you said it will power an 810! Ive been searching everywhere for an answer to this as every video has it paired with the new 112 cab they are trying to sell. Im mainly a guitar player and the only bass cab I have is an ampeg 810 and a lightweight head would help a ton as that cab weights a ton! Thanks for this review!
Yeah, I figured many people would be wondering. It’s not even working that hard powering it either. I don’t know how they come up with these ratings, it’s got significantly more juice than my Aguilar Tone Hammer.
Came here as I'm going to be borrowing this for a gig on Friday, really looking forward to playing it now! Have a feeling I'll go out and get one myself afterwards :-)
@@jake-qc2wu Really enjoyed playing it, sounds great and very portable. Owner was really happy with it too! Not sure I'm playing enough yet to warrant my own, but if I was going to buy an amp this would be it!
I have the original 500 watt terror bass. Fantastic amp. It’s been through some stuff and still works like a charm. Only thing which broke was the small black impedance switch on the rear 😂 I believe it’s stuck on 8ohms would be great to know though aye,.. eager to get it fixed though as I want to run two cabs for a gig incoming soon! How does this compare with the old model? Thanks for the vid! Sounds great
If they had to add one or maybe two things without getting too crazy and ruining a good thing. 1. A foot switch out for the gain stage so I don't have to walk over to the amp and press the button. 2. di level out that does not change your front end volume. Other then that great amp, plenty of power and good tones for dirty clean and dirty dirty.
Hello man, can you compare Ampeg PF 500 vs this Orange T.B.? I have Ampeg in rehersal room with AMPEG 8x10cab, but that is the rig of band member, so wondering what could be nice for me. Favourite genres are black and sludge/stoner/doom. I think Cab will do big difference too, but still curious, how worthy Orange is.
Eduardo Omana thanks so much brother, they are Thomastik-Infeld flatwounds. Many years ago, a friend had asked Pino Palladino what he used, so I tried them and love them. Expensive, but they’ll never need replacement (unless I break one!)
You along with so many other people are presuming that all eq at 12 oclock is flat, which is not the case. Bass and treble are boost only (flat full ccw) and mid is cut only (flat full cw)
A dark green pickguard against a white body is a criminally underused color combination for guitars and basses. I recently bought an Olympic white MIM Fender Mustang PJ bass. The mint pickguards for these basses were a terrible decision by Fender. Mint looks okay with Olympic White, but they sell the same pickguards with Torino Red, Sonic Blue, Buttercream, Capri Orange, Lake Placid Blue and Seafoam Green. I think, that mint looks pretty bad with about half of those body colors. This guy's bass looks pretty nice and modern, with that green aluminum look, but I'm an old guy, so went with something a little more retro-ish. I bought a pearl green pickguard to go with my cream colored Dimarzio replacement pickups. I have all the parts and I can tell that it's going to be beautiful. I already have the pickguard on now and my bass looks like a piece of delicious candy. Ha ha!
asarge519 yep, the input section is completely different. Modeled after AD-200. The first version didn’t have the clean switch and was more of a one-trick pony. I believe the cooling system was also improved, which is critical on these Class D amps.
@@virgomonkey68 yeah both, it sounds better and more versatile than previous, but is also more reliable because they fixed cooling issues that the 1st version had thermalling and shutting down
I have both the older Terror Bass 500 & the OB1-500. Both are really good, both have their place. I'd say the OB1 has a more sensitive EQ, a little more versatility.
tom cobb redesigned cooling system actually which was part of the issue with the original thermalling. It’s not obnoxious at all. Basically no louder than any other Class D on the market, but I will say with all that space and ventilation it should last longer.

actually it's because this amp doesn't sound so good with this technique
Bingo... my sentiments exactly! A major factor for me would be "How well does this thing handle Steve Harris bass lines?", and this thing crushes it!
I always say out loud, when is "insert demo player" going to play the bass and stop slapping it? Even Larry Graham only slapped occasionally; he spent most of any song playing his bass.

I have the original....when Orange discontinued this, I shook my head...glad they brought it back.
Such clean playing.
An excellent demo with sensible bass playing and great explanation....I'm having one!
Man that amp sounds gooood. Great playing too dude. Love that Precision.

One of the best bass overdrive tones on RUclips, fantastic video and playing

How's the midrange character? From this video, seems that the midrange is nice and present (not scooped).

fun fact about speakon jacks...you can just plug a 1/4" into the middle of it.
Please check how the EQ works! At 12 it's not flat.
True, but it is mid-way in the controls’ functionality

would you suggest the 15 cab or go with 2 12 inch cabs ?

Yes. All the other basses had rounds. Thanks (trying to appease everyone)😂

So many players wanna go EQ crazy. Flat is the designers vision for the optimum sound.
Yes if you want to EQ do it before the amp.
