Dragonstone and the other islands like Driftmark don't really grow crops of note for lack of space. Supplies like the gift they sent to King's Landing across Blackwater Bay are imported from overseas and House Velaryon with the biggest fleets of ships control most of this trade in the Narrow Sea between Westeros and Essos. This is also why they could so readily impose a sea blockade on King's Landing.
The book fire and blood is basically a history book about the reign of the Targaryen starting with Aegon the Conqueror. House of the dragon adapts a bit from that, namely the Dance of Dragons wich is the infighting between greens and blacks that ultimately lead to the Downfall of the Targaryen Dynasty. I think in the book Daemon spends a year at harrenhal and we don't get told what he does there so I like that the shoe has given him some therapy to do in that time😅

You chose a Dragon and HOPE they accept your Authority.
