    Glad to see from the comments that I'm not the only Titanic nut in the world! This may not be the right word but I've been "obsessed" with her my entire life and, ironically, she was discovered the same year I was born; I was probably about 3 years old (incredible memory/recall) when a special was ran on TV and I was completely mesmerized. I am extremely thankful for James Cameron's movie in the late nineties because it really felt like it brought the Titanic directly to me (or vice versa) and gave me the opportunity to truly experience the ship as if I was right there looking directly at her myself. Bringing the Titanic and her story to life with such amazing effects also allowed people to really feel every bit of the passengers' experiences from the beginning of the journey, all the way up to the very end.

    • @stephyclaws
      @stephyclaws Год назад +4

      I was born 2 years after the discovery but my grandfather is a big fan of big ships & shipwrecks and we watched "a night to remember" when I was around 6 and I have been obsessed ever since. I am really sad about what happened with Ocean Gate recently, not just because of the obvious loss of life but also the amazing high resolution footage they provided the world, there will be no more of that footage. Its always been a dream to see the wreck myself, which will probably never happen. But maybe I will see the wreck of her sister Brittanic one day, shes only 400 meters under the sea so more safe & achievable. Shes also in unbelievably good condition for her age and how long she's been down there.

      @ninatote yes it was great to see. Going into those dark windows is haunting. Ok hands up, i admitt i got a few scares, i thought the camera was looking right at a frame like body a few times. It is freaky once you go into those dark rooms, you dont know what to expect? Its far more haunting than space. I know that now. In space at least you can see for a distance and all around you. But at this depth its just dark and nothing lives, not even fish. A think theres only 4 or 5 kinds that do live down there. It really is a journey into another world at that depth. Well done that was great to watch.

    It's very unfortunate to rewatch older footage like this (assuming you know what she looks like in her present day state) because you're forced to accept how much she's changed (and continuing to change) and that she's deteriorating and eventually won't be more than a small heap of iron disintegrating more and more into the ocean floor until there's nothing left but maybe a rusty iron ore stain. That will be a long time from now, but still, it's sad to think about.

      I mean really the thing doing the most damage is the fucking people who just cannot stop molesting it. People are the biggest impact, always, not some microscopic bacteria eating .0001 grains of iron every year. Look at "the big piece" to see how much damage the bacteria did from 1912-2000something, whenever they raised that section. After electrolysis and a protective coating, you see the iron is really not that damaged after nearly a century underwater.
      People, on the other hand, actually land their submersibles....thousands and thousands of pounds, on the DECK of the ship. They park their subs on the actual deck of titanic.
