Legendary is right. I saw a Chris Layton & Tommy Shannon (Double Trouble) interview they told they once arrived at a venue they were playing that night. They found B.B. King was onstage playing and Stevie asked why. He was told B.B. was the opening act. Stevie went crazy. He said that if anything, they should be opening for B.B.! He said none of those Blues legends would ever open for them again. Great guy too. Thanks for doing this video!

I'm 75 years old. I have only been listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan for about 8 years.. and from the very beginning I noticed that he almost always has his favorite old guitar with him ...then at first it dawned on me that his old guitar must be Possessed....or that he himself was Possessed AND THEN I realized that to be that good They must BOTH be Possessed and it is a miracle that they found each other to Create these Magical Sounds together !

Stevie is the reason I first picked up a guitar. That man had an ability, like the great BB King to put more soul in a single note than anyone could in an entire solo. The current phenom is Gary Clark Jr. Give him listen. Texas just grows amazing blues guitarists. Must be something in that flood water.

"Legendary", you said it. I got to see him live in a small venue in Iowa in 1984 and stood directly in front of him less than 8 feet away. The stage was only a couple feet high, Stevie wasn't very tall and I am so I got to see his facial expressions in detail. At one point I got hit with sweat off his hand I was so close! One of the greatest nights of my life.

@@POPE. I've seen some big bands in big arenas with all the light shows and special affects but NONE of them came close to that hot Summer night in that smokey little club. The opening act was his friend Johnny Copeland and he would have been worth the price of the ticket all by himself! If you like some smooth blues guitar check him out some time. He never got the recognition he deserved but Stevie tried to rectify that.

I was lucky enough to see him twice, and got to shake his hand before the concert in red rocks Colorado. He was a lil fella but he had hand's were almost as big as mine and I was over 6'6" tall, he was like 5'7" or something. He said I had big strong hand's and asked if I ever played guitar, he knew I didn't play because my calluses were in the wrong spots from working, I said no but I played alto sax he said groovy man. I was walking on air all night...lol...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠

Young man, I'm glad that you got a chance to experience an artist who gave it all every show he did no matter how big or small.
Most of the great Bluesmen have died off. SRV died in 1990 in a helicopter crash before most of the reactor people were even born. It sure doesn't seem that long ago but regardless. The next time that you talk to an old man or woman and they are kinda like "Eh, what did you say, speak up!!". Chances are they lost their hearing at a SRV concert.

Go look at from about 6:30 on and pause the video a few times... you'll see had MASSIVE hands, his fingers and thumb wrap completely around the smaller fender mustang necks he favored... this allowed him to play ALL 6 strings with ALL 5 fingers of BOTH hands. Essentially he's playing rhythm parts with his thumb on the upper strings while using the strings below to jump in and out of lead/rhythm parts simultaneously ! AMAZING Talent.

Hi Pope! I was on the air here in Dallas one Saturday early afternoon. Security calls says “you have a visitor”, wasn’t expecting anyone, looked like I’d just rolled out of bed- cuz I had- anyway I asked who and the security guy said “Stevie Ray Vaughan”. WTF 😳. I am shy now, much worse then. He was shy around me too. My mind was blank for the entire two hour visit lol. We talked, played a lot of Hendrix and his brother Jimmy’s music…I’m certain it was the worst interview ever, but he did call me later and tell me how much fun he had. We did joke around off the air but jeez…SRV and me. How lucky am I? Throughout the years, it happened with other artists, the last one being Vince Neil. Sat with me 2 hours. No interview, no nothing. Just chatting. I have been blessed. TY for all of your great reactions. More Yes please! ☮️❤️

The run that starts at 3:00 is classic SRV. Simple as it is let's see anybody toss it into a solo seamlessly so it doesn't seem forced and out of place.
You call his playing smooth but we guitarists call him slick. Dude is slick as hell! Layin it down like a boss.

SO GLAD YOU RECOGNISING OUR GENERATIONS GREAT MUSIC. Maybe I take it for granted as I listened to every song come as out a hit over and over until the band had enough songs to put on an LP. And EVEN then, every song on every album was a HIT. Never had to buy albums for just one or two good songs for $9 to $15 bucks... you got 14 to15 songs on an LP and all hit....

You need to realize that SRV couldn't read music and actually failed music class in school. Also, he uses 13 gauge strings, which are like cables compared to the 6 gauges used by most everyone else, and if you watch some other of his videos, you will see him break those, He is without a doubt The Legend.
