    Interestingly enough Zora and Rito have coexisted on the timeline before. While not present in Wind Waker itself the "Geozards" in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit tracks (both direct sequels to Wind Waker) are refered to as "Zora Warriors" in several official guides and are virtually identical to the aggressive fire breathing "river zora" of early games in the series. The violent river Zora and friendly sea Zora already represent two branches of the species so a third branch in the Rito isn't a stretch (although a flood turning fish into birds is a stretch and I wouldn't blame Nintendo wanting to retcon that nonsense).

    • @conradflanagan5003
      @conradflanagan5003 Год назад +38

      I recall one theory as to why the Zora became the Rito in Wind Waker is that the Goddesses wanted to maintain a balance of power between the various races of Hyrule. The Zora remaining aquatic whilst Hyrule is entirely flooded would upset that balance, and so the Goddesses caused them to become the Rito.

    • @ChargeQM
      @ChargeQM Год назад +22

      I agree, it seems more like a divine transformation than a natural evolution. The Zora must have split, with some inhabiting the ocean depths and others staying on the surface and forsaking the waters.

    • @Oznerock
      @Oznerock Год назад +6

      The number of sea monsters and such in wind waker also substancially increased. I always took it as there's being evil in the waters so the Zora were forced to not keep going into the almost endlessly deep ocean due to the dangers in it, and were essentially forced out of the water by predators

    Just had this pop up on my feed, and I really enjoyed it!! I'd never heard the theory about the Eight Heroines representing eight races of Hyrule, and the idea of the Eighth Heroine representing the Zonai would be a really cool concept, especially since it would hopefully mean we'd find out a little more about it in TotK! The Eighth Heroine statue is one of my favorite mysteries of BotW, with the seemingly inexplicable puzzle of why and how the statue could possibly have gotten all the way to its current location so far from the Gerudo Desert, and especially how the sword somehow ended up on a mountain between the two... which, come to think about it, the Zonai's floating islands might have something to do with that!

    Rito and Zora can both exist quite easily imo. Make the rito an offshoot from a another tribe of Zora. Kind of like how in real life, we have humans and apes together still. Not all apes evolved into humans. Could be the same for the Zora. At some point, maybe a split in the Zora tribe caused a difference in environmental needs and one tribe evolved in to the rito while the other remained Zora. Obviously this would have happened so far in the past that there is no record of it anymore, but it allows the possibility of both tribes with nothing to directly counter it.
    It's fun going back and watching some of these slightly older videos after the release of TotK and seeing what gets answered and what doesn't. Zonai questions are mostly answered though there does appear to be much that isn't answered, typhlo ruins darkness isn't answered, though now the darkness is gone. The Zonai and Sheikah could not have existed together as the Sheikah are created to serve the royal family, and by the time the "Royal Family" even begins, the Zonai are down to Rauru and his sister. So the Zonai mazes were likely less ancient, but still ancient by the time the sheikah used them for testing purposes.
    The 8th Heroine is Link or I suppose "The Hero", confirmed. That one is fully answered.
    One that I don't quite get is the Zonai being dubbed the ancient barbarian tribe. They were never barbarians, they were treated like gods by the ancient hyrulians themselves. The armor makes zero sense in regards to the Zonai as well. It isn't even remotely designed for a Zonai to wear. That basically means we have a whole ass tribe of ancient people unexplained.

    Have you considered making a video on the connection between the Zonai and Twili?
    The luminous stones and glows the Zonai are known to have used have the same greenish glow as the Twili tattoos as seen on Midna, their ruins and labyrinths have this brutalist concrete-esque motif similar to the helmet Midna wears and other Twili architecture, they're both known to have been somewhat violent and proficient magic users, and most damningly part of the TOTK trailer has the Midna's Lament leitmotif in it when we're shown what I can only guess is something Zonai related based on the glow!

    The Rito and Zora being related had to with how in a section of Wind Waker you had to find the descendant of Laruto, the Sage of Earth. Turns out her descendant was no other than Medli, a Rito girl.
    Now then, there still a way to make them appear in BoTW, by somehow Laruto having a child with a Rito rather than the Rito being evolved Zora. We don't have much information about if other races apart of Hylians can become couples and have children with each other, and since the Gerudo have always born as such, even if pairing with Hylians, there is a likely scenario where mix race couples have children of one race or another.
    Anyway is just speculation.

But my running theory is that due to the events of Hyrule Warriors, the broken timeline that starts with Ocarina of Time is repaired and all previous iterations of Legend of Zelda are combined. This means the Zora from the "Hero is Triumphant" timeline and the Rito from the "Ganon is Sealed" timeline can both exist in Breath of the Wild.

    I think a good one I came up with is Zelda actually causes the blood moon as a way to reset and prevent Gannon from growing in strength. The reason being it's her every time that narrates it and it happens every time, every other time we hear Zelda as a narrator is when she speaks directly with us via telepathy. It's a small inconvenience for Link and a hard reset for Gannon.

    5:40 i think rito are descendants of the zora much in the way seals and otters are descendants of weasels and bears but we still have regular ground weasels and bears. species evolve, but the emergence of the new species doesn't always mean the original has to disappear. especially if the new species is just moving to a new ecosystem away from the old one.
    i think in wind waker rito emerged from a small group of zora. but the rest of the zora went on existing under the sea. we never encountered them in WW because we didn't need to. and they certainly never had enough business on what little land was left to see them walking around. but a tribe of zora high on a hill top could have adapted to flight instead of continuing on swimming after the flood. maybe the zora were utterly thriving and the ocean was becoming too crowded lol. so after the waters receded now there's both still carrying on. like dogs and wolves, or seals and land canines, and even birds and lizards.
    speaking of birds and lizards, you can argue that the dodongo dragon/dinosaur like creatures on and near death mountain could have evolved into rito like dinosaurs to birds on earth. the peak of death mountain being dragon roost island and some of the only land left above the flood. the entire reason the rito had zora theming can be sliced down to WW being rushed and the zora plans cut from the game and quickly added to the rito storyline where needed. to make that excuse work inside canon, you have to just assume zora and rito were in contact during the flood but the zora weren't willing to converse with hylians so rito took up the mantle in spiritual matters of guiding the next hylian hero

I also think tears of the kingdom is going to dedicate the exact same amount of time into delving into the Zonai. It's odd how similar those names add up. Especially when you consider the eight heroin statues and the fact that the Twili were banished using the mirror of twilight. We could see many places on the map as they were at various times throughout Hyrule's history. (I initial thought that would be the main way they would change up the map, but it seems they went vertical.) The Forgotten Temple. The Leviathans themselves (similar to the dead dragon in Lanayru in Skyward Sword), or as you said, the Twili. Arbirter's Ground is buried in sand in BOTW, but maybe we could see it in a time when the mirror was still being used. It could be one of the game's dungeons. Maybe Link uses the mirror and meets Midna. I already have a feeling we'll see Fi again. Link seems to carry something on his hip that resembles the spirit vessel. This game will likely take themes from TP. As well as SS obviously with the sky islands.

    Now that we have TotK, how does the Zonai ruins actually connect to the Zonai we are shown? The Zonai weren't Hylians, but basically alien goat people and advanced way beyond even the Shiekah apparently. They are less barbarians and more ancient alien/astronaut conspiracy theories come to life with some mysticism thrown in.
    I guess the "barbarian people" could be ancient Hylians before they uplifted them, but that doesn't explain how there isn't any iconography of the Zonai before TotK or whats with the weird "darkness" that infects their ruins.

    I think a simple option for the Rito and Zora would be that a particular chunk of Zora, through magic or natural selection or some combination of the two began to develop to fill a particular ecological niche while the broader Zora population survived, or at least enough of a remnant remained that yhey could repopulate.
    Alternatively, they could just share a particular common ancestor amd be divergent evolution.

    One of the best theories for where in the timeline BotW falls is from a fanfic I've read a couple times now (Rise of the Zeldan Technocratic Union on Spacebattles, for the curious); basically the BotW timeline is what you get when a prior Link, a prior Zelda, and a presumably less mummified at the time Maz Koshia lay their hands upon the Triforce and wish for the timelines to be reunited. Presumably they'd had some issue with the timelines conflicting. (Actually a Zelda game where you bounce between the different established timelines WOULD be cool-for bonus points they could even have Link incarnate in one and Zelda in another.) Also amusing in that if canonically the BotW era is after the timelines got fixed, then the events of Age of Calamity's ending break it again.

    I have two pretty simple answers to the Zora/Rito dilemna. Divergent evolution and convergent evolution seem to be great answers.
    So the simpler answer seems to be that when the Zora fled the flood in Windwaker that not all of them chose to hide on land. A small population took to the mountains, while a larger population fled to the sea when the flood began. One population became the birdlike Rito as they are in Windwaker, while the other remained the fishlike Zora.
    The other answer does seem to at least imply that evolution has happened, albeit differently than the first. With what happens to the Zora/Rito of the Windwaker being unclear, we might have a different species entirely evolve into what is Breath of the Wild's Rito and assume that they are ancestors of the ancient at this point Rito tribe. The Zora could have fled to the seas before Windwaker or even evolve back into the fishlike creatures they once were after the conclusion and this still works.

      @@Gyashonav well the alternate timeline from SS would have OOT as one of its fixed points like Twilight and WW given that if played out right a single timeline could be formed with twilight happening before WW where the loss of the hero after Twilight could have cause the flooding. the areas in twilight could be various areas in WW. cause the story of WW is that the hero disappeared and didnt return. OOT link after returning to cause ganon to be sealed away before the events could have become the Stalfos in Twilight teaching the Twilight link who could have disappeared due to the influence of the twilight magic upon him and the ability to go between the physical and spiritual realm. due to that the hero would have disappeared and when ganondorf returned there would be no hero and thus the flooding. with BOTW taking place centuries after there would be a posibility of hidden zora sealed away in their domain plus links awakening could take place after the flood but well before WW started. allowing for the account of the three leviathan skeletons from three different timelines but the one we followed before BOTW was the main split in which demise was defeated in the future. in SS he was essentially resealed in the past/ squashed by the goddess statue which could equate to the forgotten temple as demise's curse happened in a timeline that he had been freed from a normal seal but crossed through time possibly effecting the past version of his squashed self....i mean thats just my thought process since i always saw SS and OOT as fixed points in the entire timeline due to both being the only ones with time jumping mechanics. so technically even in the alternate SS , BOTW would still be after OOT by thousands of years and with the interwoven narrative of semi alternate events could account for all the inclusions from other timelines. cause the zonai are not prominant in any timeline but their style of stuff and the advance mechanics of sheika are similar to the tech in SS and one of the Bosses in the Minish cap/WW gods tower boss.

    It's highly unlikely they load all enemy flags at boot-up (particularly considering the large number of enemies, their positions, their current stats, and as well as other states about them). Considering the context in which you would have to track them it would certainly make sense to have a mechanism in place to purge memory of the defeated enemies you're tracking so when Link enters a given area you can do a check against what you've tracked and make a determination if the enemy should spawn. A blood mood would be a rather clever way for Nintendo to hide that they are indeed clearing memory buffers of tracked enemy data because to not do so would likely lead to two possible games states; one, it would create an opportunity to create buffer overflows by the player to break the game or two; the game would just keep respawning enemies you already recently destroyed or would never respawn because their state is never reset.
    I could believe that data that's already been actively tracked would load when you load your file, but loading ALL enemy flags seems incredibly unoptimized from a development team known for its engineering feats with regard to data storage compression and dynamic memory allocation/optimization.
    Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to claim here, but your statements in the video seem in conflict with earlier comments regarding panic blood moons.

    1 Rito (Sage of Wind)
    1 Goron (Sage of Fire)
    Mineru (Sage of Spirit)
    Rauru (Sage of Sacred Power)
    Zelda (Sage of Time)
    thats 7 sages. My theory is the 8th hero is Link.
    My reasoning..
    Link was not in the same time zelda was sent to. So the position of the hero so far away from the sages would be represented as him being not around or out of their time.
