  • Today I’ll show you how to make a square kaleidoscope using basic polymer clay canes. I’ve shown a tutorial on a hexagon kaleidoscope already, so I thought it would be fun to show you how to make a square kaleidoscope. The square is just as easy to make as the hexagon cane. The square cane will also fit together better when you try to put the cane slices together. It’s fun, easy and a perfect cane for beginners.

I have to be honest. I was intimidated by the quality and quantity of poly knowledge Samantha has. I actually subscribed to her channel a long time ago, perhaps two years but didn't start watching on the regular until I finally gave in and said it was time to step up my game. I hope to be at her level in about five years or so...that is about how long it will take to live up to this wonderful woman's brain! If you are reading this Samantha, THANK YOU!

LOVE those colours you’ve put together! Pink and purple are great together! Maybe try this with green and blue? Or your favourite AFL/rugby team colours?

You made this look SO easy. Your directions are perfect for a beginner like me, and I find it helpful that you limited your use of tools to five - easily enough to obtain economically: clay, a pasta machine, a blade, a skewer, one set of hands. Well, your brain, creativity and knowledge unhesitatingly included. 😉 Very well done.
Your cane truly is the prettiest kaleidoscope cane I have seen to date, of which, there have been many. Thank you very much!

Would you mind either confirming or denying where your accent is from. You sound so similar to a friend of mine who is South African.

I really like the way you teach thank you. I’m looking for a pasta machine what’s the best one to get that well last The longest?

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  5 лет назад +3

If you can afford it I'd go with an atlas, but I like to look for an 18inch wide pasta machine on ebay as they're much cheaper.
All pasta machine's gears tend to give out after around two years with regular use, even the more expensive ones. I tend to look for the cheapest one so that I can easily replace it ever two years. That's my personal opinion on the matter.

Hello Samantha, I have subscribed to your channel.
I really love your video tutorials ❤️
I'm a behginer into cane making, which I'm practising with Fimo soft atm which is what I have in my stash.
Is premo souffle the best for cane making then?
I struggle with Fimo soft as colours bleed too much and is quite sticky too, also stains the pasta machine rollers in between colours if I'm making blends and it's a pain.
I would appreciate it if you could give me some advice about the best clay for cane making.
Greetings from the United Kingdom 🇬🇧
    Maria x

Personally I find that Kato is the best clay for caning. Premo and premo souffle work well too.

Like you, most of the people doing these tutorials seem to have such neat clay. When I handle it the clay gets soft and won't hold it's shape. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

You might be over working the clay and causing it to become too warm. The best way to avoid this is to let the clay rest in between steps or to put it in the freezer for a few minutes.
You also might just have a fresh batch of clay. In that cause you might need to leach it. Here's an article on how to do that. www.jessamatutorials.com/soft-polymer-clay.html
