I watched this video a couple days before my RA interview. I listened to everything you advised in this video (especially the STAR method) and it helped me immensely! I ended up getting the job and I’ll be an RA in the upcoming school year, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING! 💕
hey I watched a bunch of these RA videos and this is by far the best. thanks for keeping it real and being honest. I'm gonna be in RA this year and this video educated and prepared me greatly !
When you’re an RA, are you able to leave to hang with your family/friends during the weekend when you’re duties/shifts are done? Or do you always have to be there?
I have a group interview tomorrow or an RA position, I’ve been reviewing and prepping and this video is really helping me feel more confident in myself about the interview and what to expect. While asking other RAs there’s only so much they can tell you about the interview process and I’m just hoping that tomorrow goes great!
I interviewed for this position and got alternate with 70 other people. BUT THEY JUST EMAILED ME TODAY AND TOLD ME THEY WANT ME TO FILL A SPOT THAT JUST OPENED!
@@gil5885 you got it!! & an update: I got the job! It has been about 8months since I have been a RA. A lot of work, but the relationship you establish with others is rewarding!
Girl imma need to go to another college to have my own space any suggestions? The R.A.'s here share the entire dorm with 3 other students. I be low key hatin on the R.D.'s tho they got it good over here 😂😭😂
I think regardless of what you choose as a career, being an RA is a great decision. I'm going to be an Accountant and it has been a great opportunity. It's a good learning experience and helps you grow and mature.
Is there a way to become an RA without ever living on campus? I can't afford to live on campus, but I still want the experience of an RA because I love challenges and being able to help other people. I'm going to Rutgers New Brunswick and they say they accept any similar community-based experience but I'm not entirely sure what that means
At my university, your on-campus house is paid for since you are an RA. I am paid a stipend and my housing doesn’t cost. I get paid a smaller paycheck in total, but I don’t have to pay for my food or housing or bus pass. Best of luck!
Well a lot of the RAs at my school were nursing, education, and business majors and those are pretty demanding. Especially with clinicals for nursing, job shadowing or praxis for education, and internships for business majors. We everyone made it through and housing was understanding. Dealing with those situations just come down to the team you’re working with and their ability to help out. On my team we had each other’s back. But it has and will definitely continue to be done. I don’t think a demanding major affects the RA position too much. You just have to find someone to replace you in certain instances. Hope that helps. I went to an internship Monday through Friday in my last year as an RA. sometimes I had to get someone to hold the duty phone for me until I got off at 5 or switch a shift here and there but it worked out.
It depends on the school but at my school you can only be on 1 payroll and can’t go over 40 hours in a pay period. So if you were on housing payroll you can’t be on another departments payroll. And the job would have to be on campus to be an RA at my school.
Keep it moving lol. But seriously all you can do is let them know you are there to help and if they don't want your assistance then there's nothing you can do about it. You can possibly make a note of it with your supervisor if you think it may affect you negatively.
I’m thinking of applying to be an RA sophomore year. Do you have to stay on your building/floor at all times (apart from classes) to be there for support? Do you get free time to leave? Great video! Thanks :)
Thanks for the information! I am Ari an international student from Bangladesh. I have made a video for the RA video submission. You can check it out. I have an interview today morning! Keep me in your prayers.

If you’re not on duty or working a shift then you can absolutely leave campus.
I have an RA interview tomorrow!! Thank u so much 💖 I’ll give an update

Felecia Jones what school do you attend? At majority of schools RAs have their own room
jaeleeseauh mcc
Its cool but i kinda wish they had they own but I'll wait until i check out other college's.
Really!? A few years ago at one of the residence halls here, an RA had to share. It didn't work out lol
Great video how much is the pay ?
I’m a freshman and have an interview! I’m scaredddd
So do you think that if someone want to go into real estate , would being an RA be good for them ?
I think regardless of what you choose as a career, being an RA is a great decision. I'm going to be an Accountant and it has been a great opportunity. It's a good learning experience and helps you grow and mature.
Tommie Marie oh thanks

In my experience you would have had to live on campus but all universities are different so there may be different requirements.

I don't know if you looked it up but it seems like you have to live on campus for one semester to qualify for the job.
@@ObviouslyGoose
Are you saying the food in the cafeteria is free and you won't need a money card?
Do you think that during the interview process it might be harder to get a job if your major is demanding?
Well a lot of the RAs at my school were nursing, education, and business majors and those are pretty demanding. Especially with clinicals for nursing, job shadowing or praxis for education, and internships for business majors. We everyone made it through and housing was understanding. I am so nervous. My individual interview is today
I was just hired as a mid-semester RA, anything I should know and how will this be compared to starting off fresh?
Would you be able to share the written list of everything that you said please? Also you are beautiful.
Sure, glad I still have it saved! It's in the description box now :)
Okay thank you so much!
When can you sign up to be an RA? I’m an AUM freshman
The application opens in the Spring
Great video
Does RA working hour counted in Allowed part-time working hours?
It depends on the school but at my school you can only be on 1 payroll and can’t go over 40 hours in a pay period. So if you were on housing payroll you can’t be on another departments payroll. And the job would have to be on campus to be an RA at my school.
like your intro
Im an RA and i have to pay for housing.
What benefits do you get as an RA then?
@@TommieMarie we get paid once a month and get to register for classes one week early than everyone else. that's all we get!! yall are lucky.
So how do u approach. A person who don’t want your help cause of the color of your skin
Keep it moving lol. But seriously all you can do is let them know you are there to help and if they don't want your assistance then there's nothing you can do about it. You can possibly make a note of it with your supervisor if you think it may affect you negatively.
can you be an RA while having another job?
You can, but not off campus at my school at least.
I really could have used this 2 weeks ago
Can freshman be RAs?
Yes!
I’m thinking of applying to be an RA sophomore year. Do you have to stay on your building/floor at all times (apart from classes) to be there for support? Do you get free time to leave?
Great video! Thanks :)
No you can leave. As long you work your shifts, you can pretty much do what you want with your free time.
