Great backing track! I would still call the F/A just Fmaj7 since the bass is still playing an F but I understand that symbol is referring to the guitar voicing. I'm going to refer my viewers to this track in my videos. Thank you.
Who knew a backing track video would help me understand and apply phrygian mode better than all the long winded lessons and theory videos I've watched. Thank you so much!
For examples of Phrygian mode's "mood" and a player highly inspired by it, Al Dimeola's early albums "Land of the Midnight Sun" and "Elegant Gypsy" say it best :) I'm always fascinated by the innate tonal structure from culture to culture. We in the Western cultures have the 12-tone system virtually established by J.S. Bach. East Asian cultures use a 5-tone system while Hindi cultures use a 7-tone system. Most fascinating was a melodic chant sung by a woman and girl of the indigenous people of the Amazon region. I heard whole and semitones, but couldn't quite establish the tonal system. That chant/melody may have thousands of years behind it; some innate force tells us what smallest and largest intervals make a "right" song.
I listened to those Al DiMeola albums (and many after that) over and over again, even though I didn't play the guitar at that time just yet. Music from other cultures is indeed fascinating and beautiful at times, I like the Arabic music and north African music a lot. But...it's hard to learn, when you didn't grew up with the specific tonal system.
Best tutorials online. I’ve searched all the information separately and at last found it in one place which explains everything in an easy to understand format 🙏🏻
This is great, thank you. I've been struggling to understand modes for weeks now, and this is massively helpful. The improvisation assistant and the info notes are perfect.
Hey Jean. Thanks!. The backing tracks are created by me. I play everthing you hear, so I do not use any software for generating chords or something like that :)
I think some people as well as my self are getting getting confused from a typo in your video....At 1.07 it says F is the root and at 2.59 again it says F is the root....I believe it should be E and is just a typo but my self and others seem to have noticed....Maybe write something in the description or a comment clarifying that it's a typo.....Thanks for the tracks tho....I like that you not only show the chords but also show scale patterns during the video....
hey quick question, why is F the root if it's called E Phrygian and based off of the C Major scale with E being the first degree of the mode / the 3rd tone of the C Major Scale?
That description is WRONG. It should be E. I noticed that to on the screen near the Mode Patterns. The note that gives it the Phrygian sound is F but the root is definitely E.
The Phrygian mode is a minor mode so the chord on the 1st degree (tonic) is a minor chord. There is a variation of the phrygian scale and that is the phrygian dominant scale (the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale). This scale does have a major chord on the first degree.
I'm an ear player. I've got tot the point where it's pretty easy to solo over most music as you start to recognize automatically the intervals between notes that you need to play. Another observation is the fact that a few basic scale shapes will take you very far. Take the notes that fit this and play them over a song written in A Minor. Same shit, different song. You'll see many connections like this in a myriad of backing tracks. C Lydian? Play E minor/Pentatonic over it......modes are pretty easy when you see the patterns. I can play all over the neck using this method, and of course you want to develop your licks and the theory to tie them together, but it's not brain rocket surgery.
In the mode E Phrygian the tonic is E (not F). So you got that right Michael. F is the characteristic note in the E Phrygian mode. Maybe that is what got you confused.

****REMARK: AT 1:07 AND 2:59 THERE'S A MISTAKE. It says F is the root while it should be E. I'm very sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for the clarification. I am new at Modes and thought the root was "E". I am practicing bass solo over this.

TRUE, this is happening to me now :)
I could’ve told you that, focused play is as strong as 100 lessons

That's a warm, fruity Phrygian, really nice to jam to! I like to throw in blues as well, you get some interesting lines combining the two.
perfect just what Ive been looking for thank you
This helped me so much. I’ve never seen a video that had a backing track and a tutorial at the same time. Much love and thanks from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Thanks Giuliano!
lovly i practice this with all time
This a wonderful, seemingly small but potentially wide example of how well ground music theory can (and should) be the foundation of improvisation.
This is great, thank you. I've been struggling to understand modes for weeks now, and this is massively helpful. The improvisation assistant and the info notes are perfect.
Indeed! Very Cool! Love the Vibe! I could solo over this all day and never tire of it! Great work bro! Keep them coming! 👍👍
Without the phrygian mode a lot of musicians in metal or prog genres would be out of job😊 ! Great stuff !
not really they have the choice of doing the opposite goofing around in mixolydian modes😂
@@royhsieh4307 For sure, AC/DC or Airbourne would be prog bands 😅
Awesome backing track. Just a question. At 1:09 should the root note be F or E? Cause F would make it Lydian right?
You're absolutely right Zohar. That would make it F Lydian. A mistake... Excuse me for this!
@@QJamTracks No problem buddy. Just keep making amazing tracks like these. Really helps peeps like us 👍
So much helpful one thanks for the wonderful backing track!
Excellent Track, Thank You!
Hi there Kytronn. Thanks man!

GREAT VID Q!!! This stuff def helps me polish up my modes. TYVVM.
Your channel is super!
Thanks man!!
This is phenomenal
Thanks!
thank you ! just realized the E phrygian notes are the same than Dmajor scale, and A Aeolian, B locrian and so on ...
It’s the same as Cmaj not Dmaj.
Love this
Thank u ,its great lesson for me
Hele goede track Rob!

@@QJamTracks Ben er nog mee bezig. Als het af is stuur ik het je :)
Super Backtrack !!
it's very good to present.
how do you change chords? is it software?
Hey Jean. Thanks!. The backing tracks are created by me. I play everthing you hear, so I do not use any software for generating chords or something like that :)
Why would he use software?
Gave backing track Rob!
Dank je Peter!!

You're right Gavin! I've made a remark in the description and a pinned a comment at the top of the comment list. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

This and Locrian are the best because mistakes just sounds normal
I dont understand. Dimoesnt the Phrygian mode based On E starts with E major ?

@@QJamTracks hi I actually thought it was E major Phrygian which starts with E major and is equivalent to A harmonic minor.
omg that is awesome !! but could someone please explain to me. The F is the root note comment during the video plz?
Hi :) I do not understand what you want to ask. Maybe you can rephrase it?
is there a way to download this jam Track?
I do not sell backing tracks at this time. Where do you need it for?
found a decent track to improvise
My teacher tried so hard to explain me modes. All he had to say is "its all the major scale lol"
Great track, thank you. But it sounds like just F, not F/A

Yeah, E Phrygian Dominant and A Harmonic Minor are the same thing
Totally confused. I was thinking E was the tonal root not F. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
In the mode E Phrygian the tonic is E (not F). So you got that right Michael. F is the characteristic note in the E Phrygian mode. Maybe that is what got you confused.
@@QJamTracks Ok, so its the F note that gives the E Phrygian its modal sound. I think I understand now. Thank you for your patience and clarification.
